If I'm listening on sdr I use 11175 because 8992 gets a lot of interference from fishermen or radar.
On my home set I always get a better signal on 8992.

US military still uses short wave radio to transmit messages. They're coded but if you listen long enough you can tell when shit's happening. For instance, the day Trump launched all those Tomahawks at Syria there were a ton of 'skyking' messages. They start out 'skyking skyking. Do not answer'.
The more 'skykings' you hear it's usually higher priority. Not always though.
