First, what is that thing? Baboon? Second, it was 4am, police chopper spotted a black man smashing car windows, destroying property, etc with a blunt object (weapon). Ground forces were led to his location by the chopper. The suspect FLED the police. A crime again. They pursued to his house, where he refused to back down and went to backyard. A crime.
It is 4am, a violent criminal (smashing, destroying property) that is armed (blunt object possibly still on his person) and has fled police (hostile, willing to do anything to not get caught) is now cornered.
He turns on the police brandishing something. It is 4am, dark and all of above lead you to believe he is a violent criminal about to do something to harm the police. It is one of most violent cities in America with 9/100 crime score (only safer than 9% of US cities). It has more than double the homicide rate of America and rape, violent crimes are just as high. It is a dangerous neighbourhood with high gun crime from gangs, which are predominantly black. The suspect is black in one such neighbourhood fleeing cops after destroying property and brandishing something in his hand after committing crimes and fleeing the police.
You do not stand there and figure out if its a gun or not. You dont give them time to shoot you or disarm you or injure you and turn on you and your partner. You do not hesitate versus a violent criminal that has shown disregard for law enforcement orders and fled scene of crime and refused to listen multiple times. This isnt fucking TV or movies. People do not fucking pinpoint shoot guns out of hands or other james bond shit. You shoot multiple times at center of mass and put the target down. If they live, you aid them. If they die, its their fault. Shooting in arms and legs does not disable a suspect. It doesnt prevent them from shooting at you or using a knife. Tasers dont take down everyone and can malfunction.
