I disagree but okay.

Is this Sup Forums's Breath of the Wild?

Agreed, almost everyone of his previous films are better. Except for Children.

Honestly the hype made me take it seriously as a film and it failed to live up to those standards.
I probably would have enjoyed it more if I waited a few years for the buzz to die down.

I genuinely hate Shinkai's writing style.

KnK was better, but I still really liked it.

It was.

What made KnK better
I agree btw

Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni was better than either of them

Did you know the HDR release is DARK?

I watched it yesterday and I really didnt give 2 shits about the story. It could've had any plot other than than and it would've been better. In any case the visuals is the only reason to watch it.
Everything seems to work on the principle of "what a coincidence" in this universe.

Theres the issue with supernatural in otherwise natural world where the character acts strangely and claims to be another person and the response should be "oh you suffer from Schizophrenia, lets get you on medication" but instead they give a completely insane response of "oh thats normal" which would be evil thing to do in reality.
Literally only reason for the girls dad to be an asshole is so he doesnt immediately believe his daughter and go "yeah lets evacuate" so they can create the drama around it.
Ofc 100% of people end up evacuated and safe because anime, Its retarded. Like you can just say "ONLY 100 or so people died rather than 500" and itd still be happy end.
But goddammit I dont care about 2 people finding love, its so fucking mundane. Im not female. Fuck.
They also managed to make actual meteor impact the ugliest scene in the entire movie. I wonder why.

It was pretty great. Not a masterpiece but it's really got me hopeful for what else Shinkai will end up putting out in the future.

Story was better. Characters were better. The interactions between characters felt more believable. It's animation was really great, but perhaps KnnW was slightly better. Kind of a personal preference, but KnK's more realistic story had a greater emotional impact on me. They were both terrific movies though.

It was worth a onahole though.

You watch it for the scenery porn.

>HDR screenshot
you're retarded m8
also don't you know about magical realism?

It suffers under its hype.
Like Fallout 4, which isn't a bad game itself (It has flaws though, that's true), it becomes shit when comparing it to expectations and the hype around it.
I personally like 5 centimeters per second more than Your Name. and agree with as well.

>you're retarded m8
Thanks for telling me
>also don't you know about magical realism?
No maybe you can enlighten me.

5 CM/S obliterates this pile of shit beyond all recognition.

Even Garden of Pedos was better.

I'm not saying it wasn't very good/great but not a masterpiece.

That's pretty much the case with almost all Shinkai works.
They are a good watch, though.

5cm/s is redditcore trash too. Get some taste.

Saw it a week ago, thought it was good and the drama did its work. Animation was a real beauty. Will definitely watch it again

>magical realism
Come on, it's not One Hundred Years of Solitude, but just animu with some convenient events to push the plot forward.

A boy falls in love with a girl.

>Like Fallout 4, which isn't a bad game itself
lol

Unable to confess.

True true

It was generic outside the bodyswap and time shenanagins

A boy chosen by god falls in a love with a girl chosen by to save 500 people from a meteor that should just either burn up in atmosphere or fall in the pacific ocean.

You're a giant crossboarding fag but you're right.

Fallout 4 is a bad Fallout game, hype or no hype.

What is your greatness measure?
It IS a blockbuster, and, probably, it WAS planned to be one.

I personally love Kotonoha no Niwa way more

>blockbuster
That's actually what I thought it was too when I watched it. It felt like they made it as accessible as possible, pander to as many people as possible, and then market it to as many people as possible during a time where a lot of people like to go out and watch a movie.

I almost want to say that this movie's success was due to the marketing team, not Shinkai

>not Shinkai
scenary porn done well, however

It's a big meteor

Yeah yeah we know, you are contrarian, you are so special, mature and cool.

Then you have the fact that if a meteor nucleus broke, it'd just continue on the same trajectory.

scenery porn is literally filler no-brainer content to make normies go "woahh so pwetty"

this guy gets it

Well yeah, the big meteor would travel the same path. But the smaller one has a change to change trajectory and eventually fall toward earth due to its gravitational pull

KnnW felt too mainstream, and I don't mean that in the contrarian way of "it's popular so I don't like it," I mean it felt like it was going out of its way to appeal to everyone at once instead of just telling a story naturally. The structure of comedy to romance to tragedy to suspense didn't flow together well enough for me to believe in the story being told. Had a lot of scenes that were good, sometimes even great, on paper but never felt earned in the context of the work as a whole. KnK sunk me into the storytelling but KnnW never could convince me it was anything other than a movie at any point.
Also the cinematography was better in KnK. KnnW was prettier and makes for better screenshots but I can only remember a small amount of the actual composition, while KnK's scenes stuck out more often.
I still like Kimi no na Wa well enough, it's a fun flick. But Koe no Katachi is a film.
