my country kicked up the internal debt, and the central bank did some jew magic and we didnt really feel it

>tfw I was 11 and really don't remember much

My dad lost his house and we had to move, thats about it.

It was a huge meme. I wish there was another recession and a dumb nigger demagogue so I can cash in on dem stimulus gibs and CashForClunkers.

I was active duty in the military.

my state was minimally effected, except for people with large amounts already invested into a retirement fund

how i survived hearing everyone bitch about it as if it was an excuse for being a dick for 5 years is a better question.

>2008
>oldfag

my dad changed jobs and is actually richer now :)

I started a business. Still going strong.

I was broke as fuck anyway. I kept my shitty jobs in the food service industry or landscaping and made the best of it. Thanks always having a job of one kind or another since the age of 14, when the recession hit in my early to mid 20's, my job experience allowed me to keep working. I always had shit jobs, so getting and keeping shit jobs was nothing new.

this. got reenlistment bonus, maxed TSP contribution with it, bought index funds at the bottom with the rest. gonna be double dip retired at 52 in a couple years. eat shit poverty fag millenials--i got mine so kmagyoyo.

I was a poorfag, with a small 401k managed by Charles Schwab that still managed to make money. Just live a humble life and don't waste money on frivolous shit like new cars or a new top of the line phone every year. Less skin in the game means you have less to lose. Let the boomers continue to die off and the situation will change for us all.

Not sure if slide thread or just he really wants to know. These threads are all started by canadians.

>tfw family held out pretty well and nothing changed for us

It wasn't even that bad. You'll see bad in about 10 years.

I worked at a university and sucked the taxpayer tit. You're a leaf, you know the drill.

I got a job and rode it out. Management fucked me for 4 years. They knew they could pile on the workload without compensating us with a decent raise because of the markets.

I took a shed load of drugs.
And did a centrefold for PlayGirl Magazine.
I spread my butt cheeks under the name Mike Honchos.

Spent 18 months unemployed. I was faced with either living under a bridge and sucking dick for whiskey or joining the military. I joined the military.

By buying keeping a job and buying up reserve list. Life was great if you were employed; prices were low.

It won't take that long. Our economy has been propped up for too long now as it is. Factor in the GOP being in charge, spending money like crazy and trying trickle-down yet again, and it won't take long for it to all collapse again.

It's more than that. Anyone who had a retirement or home lost big in the short term. An extra 5% lost their jobs and raises were frozen for five years.

Anyone with a job was better off. Businesses were desperate and charging less. People were selling away their possessions to pay rent.

Lived in Florida and was working a trade when it happened. It was pretty crazy how fast everything slowed down. 100 home developments just stopped being built with houses in different stages of development. Like big new construction ghost towns. Luckily I'm more of a service guy so work never really slowed down for me. I did end up moving back home to New Hampshire though and it was much better here

Became a robosigner

The only people with a home that lost were people that sold the second it became worth than they paid originally.

pretty unfair to the bank overall really, because everyone should assume a house is a volatile investment they need to pick carefully in the first place.

yeah, as in the entity that gives you hundreds of thousands of dollars when you only have 20k in your pocket, so you can buy a home and stop being a renter.

the shit isn't free. it's not like the bank wanted to pay the full price for a random ass house, they just knew they could recover a certain percentage of their loss and write the rest off.

my dad got laid off and we've been financially fucked ever since

Turbokike detected

My government gave me $850 for doing nothing.
I bought a powercolor 4870 videocard and regrated it.

Shitposting on /new/

Had 20 pounds of silver. Sold it when it hit $48 a oz.

Right after Fukishima right? American Silver Eagles were being bought above spot for one weekend, and then the price made a big drop a month later.

I had a more work than normal for about 2 years, bought the dip and rode gold up for a while after, cant wait for the next one

Jews apparently are the only ones who believe in personal property.
shrug~

Shot at brown people for the government then spent my blood money hiding from real life in academia. Now I have an internet job with zero job security, zero savings, and zero safety net. If I'm lucky I'll die of a heart attack before the company I work for goes under.

I think the whole recession in 2008/09 was such a waste. Instead of using QE, which only rewarded losers, the government should have completely nationalized the fed, taken charge of money printing, and done infrastructure projects.
It also would have ended up being good for banking, because the resulting vacuum would have allowed for entrepreneurs to get into known markets and create a better system

Had just graduated from high school, 18 years old. Dad lost his job of about 10 years because of downsizing, the company went from about 30 people to around 5 employed. Spent a year being depressed and job hunting because my friends all left for college and were constantly posting pictures of their party lifestyle, lost contact with them for 4 years. I couldn't afford to go to college because my mom married into money which makes FAFSA give next to nothing. Had to move states away into an already crowded house and live with family.

Things improved after that, thankfully.

bump

bumping one more time

I was unemployed for a few months. Took a lot of walks, saw a lot of movies, took naps every day, jerked it twice a day.

By going to work every day and not living beyond my means. Pretty simple, actually. Never had a car payment, cheapest cell phone plan & lived in a place with all utilities included.

I didn't reelist, I did what did except I am still in academia (PhD candidate) and am looking at some high paying jobs when done. As much as I love research, I couldn't deal with students.

Plus a criminal record, dumbass. Smaaaart.

Continued on, some pussy ass "recession" isn't going to stop me from living my life how I want or need to.

Fuckin my sorta underage gf repeatedly
