Honestly, I think he knows that he can't change anything. If he was in the spotlight and sharing these messages 25 years ago maybe it would have had an impact but it's too late.
He can talk about individualism all he wants but the rules to the game have changed. The future is one in which blocks of people will join together to vote, work, and fight. I can empathise with him in the respect that he believes as both we and the left do that there's a fuck ton at stake right now, however he's in a position that neither we or the left are in.
For us we can rally against an external opponent to secure our aims and save what we hold dear, for Peterson who takes on a centrist position and agrees with points both we and the left make he has no external opposition to rally against as his goal is to tone down the extremism of the left and the right to bring us all towards the center.
His conflict is far more an internal one as he has to fight the desire constantly to align totally with one side or another in the externalisation of a threat. That's a painful place to be, it's only natural that he'd have cause to cry.
