Why are direct downloads for anime/manga not really a thing anymore? Everyone seems to rely heavily on torrents.
I know there's XDCC, but I've only used that for individual episodes and not full series, so I'm not sure how it would compare.

DDL is too inconvenient and difficult to dig for.

>Why are direct downloads for anime/manga not really a thing anymore?
They are if you know where to look.

Where does one look, user-sama?

I feel bad for you, so I'll spoonfeed you: lurk the fuck moar, Sup Forums isn't your personal search engine.

like a true Sup Forumsnon.

Real fans don't beg for handouts.

>Implying that this wasn't the expected answer.
>Implying that it wasn't satire when adding "user-sama".
True fans my fucking ass you retards.

There are some left.

Open directories.

Video files have gotten larger, and copyright laws have gotten more aggressive. The only people who keep hot material on servers are the people in the scene, and they mostly use a constantly shifting mix of hacked servers to keep their game of musical chairs going, protected by a shroud of secrecy and exclusivity. Everything at the level of mass distribution is torrents now.

...

I missed lolipower something ddl server. Some retard got my country banned though.

They'll be making a comeback now that Net Neutrality is repealed and torrents are throttled.

It's a lot cheaper to run a tracker than DDL site.

>They'll be making a comeback now that Net Neutrality is repealed
Is it? Not really following this because I'm not American.

>tfw waiting for your s/l ratio to go back up again

I'd actually expect a more secure protocol like Freenet would take its place, if anything.

There aren't direct downloads for the average show. Only niche shit like certain kids anime, BL and shoujo OVAs upload direct to MEGA or anything. Hardcoded foreign subs are usually DDL only.

>nu-Sup Forums kiddies will never experience the glory days of Megaupload and Rapidshare

It's easier to use torrent+rss and let anime download by itself

I'm in several private trackers, but "lurking more" won't magically make you know where direct downloads come from.

>but "lurking more" won't magically make you know where direct downloads come from.
Sure it will. Every single stupid "where can I find [...]", source request, and recommendation can be answered through lurking. That's exactly how I know these sites exist, because I did my research and observed. If you're in a private tracker (why is this impressive again?) then you can figure out where to find DDLs.

Google exists for a reason.

It does. Because people forget about OPSEC. Stupid as they are.

Don't Madokami and the Homura site have direct downloads?

>they've never heard of /rs/ or even /fk/

If only there were a website with the express purpose of automatically mirroring tokyotosho, nyaa, anidex and horriblesubs with multiple DDL links per episode. If only.

I really have no need for them, just pointing out the irony of "lurk more" when the culture here is keeping information to a minimum.

American ISPs were legally allowed to throttle content and create "fast lanes" and "slow lanes" before today. Nothing changed today. Really.

Great job derailing yet another thread being about spoonfeeding. QUALITY OC content.

Most stream sites also allow direct downloads
Hell you can just grab the EPs from your temp folders

>Why are direct downloads for anime/manga not really a thing anymore?
Because the copyright police are much better at taking them down than they used to. Not making them known in the first place is the best way to keep good sources around in this day and age

>lolipower.org
I still haven't removed it from my favorites.

Good riddance. Fuck misplaced nostalgia, although I do mourn all the shit that was lost with Megaupload's death.

>XD
Get the fuck out

>Real fans don't beg for handouts.
>Saying this when you pirate
lol

literally why would you want direct downloads? All the big corporations that could pay for direct downloads just stream so lower level fansub groups either use shitty compressed streams or just ease of the load with torrents.

How did it take so long for someone to make the joke.

Why do people here hate helping others so much?

>just pointing out the irony of "lurk more" when the culture here is keeping information to a minimum.
And yet the majority of people seem to have no problem with this. Honestly, newfags have it easy. There are plugins to make source finding easier than ever, Sup Forums has an information repository that answers every cliched newfag question, and /wsr/ exists. People are also willing to spoonfeed the dumbest retards regardless of how shit their posts are. I find it hard to have sympathy for anyone complaining about "board culture" or lurking when things have become so simple. Maybe some people see it differently.

Being an unhelpful sociopath isn't something to be proud of, user.

It encourages behavior which belongs on /wsr/.

Lurk moar.

/wsr/ is laughably useless. I've asked dozens of things there and have only actually been helped out once or twice.

If you want people to go to /wsr/, maybe you should contribute to it not being so shit instead of crying like a little nancy boy about "newfags".

Megaupload was legit good, Rapidshare was cancer incarnated. Remember using blog search and that file search (youfiles, tubesearch, don't remember its name ), even Soulseek.

You can DD from horriblesubs website but the problem with these is that if you use mega the links will die in a blink and if you use any other site you get shit speeds.
Even worse, you can get into spic territory of shit where you have to pass like 5 adflie or whatever before you can get a dead link.

Soulseek is still around and still widely used.

I know, still use to this day, but only for music and, sometimes, music videos and concerts.

haha nobody expected the spanish fansubs to put DDL

Weird. I always get helped on wsr from sauce findings to even photoshop requests and I always help someone when I can

I remember when I used to download anime in 2 or 3 parts from google video.

There are a ton of ftp servers is you lurk in the Sup Forums irc channels hard enough

I've seen some users on their with large anime libraries (mostly entry level though) and decent dl speeds. If the worst comes to the worst, that will always be an option.

The message isn't to get help somewhere else, the message is to go fuck yourself. Sup Forums is not your personal help center. Sup Forums is for anime discussion, not a support service for finding warez.

Fuck learning things yourself. Just force the board to bow to your whims and then complain about board culture and " elitism" when you don't get your way. It's everyone else's fault but mine for being retarded.

I remember watching softcore porn on google video.

Why make an upload into a targetable spot if you can use p2p and not worry?

Wow, fluffy.is is still alive.

>not really a thing anymore
When was it ever a thing? I've been a weeb since the 90s and it wasn't until torrent and p2p that downloading full episodes was even a thing.

Did I miss a blip in mid 2008 when internet speeds and file sizes magically lined up?

Now this is good bait. 7/10 will never fail to make me frustrated.

The first anime I downloaded was DDL back around 2007. Higurashi. The episodes might have been in parts, though.

Mega >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Torrent no more though, Mega went full retarded with their limits, nowadays I only rely on Mega to download old anime, torrent is only good for seasonal anime.

Because there are many retards that need learn how to search things.

Because we're elitist.
Now fuck off.

XDCC counts as direct download, why not just use that? IRC downloads are easy as heck to find.

Hosting a server with a few thousand series requires 50+TB worth of drives and hundreds of TB per month of bandwidth. Hosting a few thousand torrent files requires

I know this is a longshot, but does anyone remember a shitty backwater DDL website with a layout like this from around 2008?
I remembered it out of nowhere a few days ago and it's been bugging me.

I've gotten plenty of old shit from torrents, what are you talking about?

That's a cute drawing, I really wish I knew what it was.

This is why I worry about anime simply becoming a small part of the already established and much more retarded "scene". With fansubbing virtually dead and bigger players with more money getting into anime in the west it doesn't make me hopeful. I think it's why you see more acceptance of private trackers now.

Where did I said you couldn't?

>torrent is only good for seasonal anime

What third world country did you live in? It became doable with the advent of DSL and broadband in the early 00s. You could download .rm and .avi episodes from just about any anime site.

>lolipower
