Fucking why?

Are you an idiot?

Because Japan has a robust magazine industry where independent artists can make a living, and it's often competitive so everyone is encouraged to get better.

America doesn't have that.

Comics Code Authority self-regulation murdered a lot.

In Japan if you have decent skills you can get a following just by putting yourself out there and drawing consistently

In America its all about knowing the right (((people))) and having the right (((ideas))), skill is somewhere down the list of importance

America has special snowflakes

Why is the art so bad?

Here is a perfect example of superior Japanese artistry.

Because the west would rather draw furry porn

sauce??

Because you're a fucking weeaboo

That’s not even good art op. Also american comics use artists from all over the world

Western comic book industry fucking died and whored the corpse to Hollywood. Webcomics are literally just sociopolitical soapboxes.

Gee, I wonder why so few give a shit about the actual medium for what it is.

Still plenty of good comic book artists out there, even if the pool is shrinking, ship has sunk, and prospects for the future are grim.

America believes in individuality to a much higher degree, causing less encouragement to improve on existing styles in favor of calling it their own.

>"I haven't been on pixiv"
That's what this post says. Go on pixiv and search up the tag of any character. The good art you see is cherrypicked. For every great piece of art there's like 10 shitty MS Paint or school paper crayon drawings of garbage quality.

Why is he so alpha?

No, American illustration in comics is generally excellent. It's just that the good ones are usually bordering on realism, and it's boring.

They aren’t that different there are good mangaka and good cartoonists just like there are bad ones

?

Clearly. Yesterday i saw a guy that did a redesign of an Overwatch female character he didn't like, and an "artist" (meaning: a girl (LolaTempest) drawing yaoi of male characters from Overwatch) retweeted his post spitting slurs at men in general.
She got +10% followers in a few hours and bragged about it.

As another guy that casually draw too, there's just no way i can compete.Just spouting crap, no matter how toxic, in the right direction will always bring these drones more exposition than I, or another random drawing dude, will ever get.

Moon Rune Calligraphy

...

It's not even that their skills are poor. Plenty of western artists are able to draw very well when they choose to do so. It's that for some reason cartoons all try to outdo each other on how grotesquely hideous they can make their characters. And then there are other corruptions, like tumblr intentionally making characters ugly in some misguided attempt to make them more like "normal" people. Or giving them red noses for some reason.

The American comics industry use to be quite diverse but the Comics Code Authority killed all the genres that wasn't capeshit. So now we have an industry that's niche and everything that tries to branch out from capeshit is even more niche because everyone thinks comics are for little kids because it's been capeshit for decades.

This post reeks of gamergator. Ugh.

Please don't do this on Sup Forums guys.

In America the comics are manchildren superhero shit or SJW "humor" comics that can be drawn in MS paint, so they're never incentivized to improve.

>>>/tumblr/

Depictions of werewolves, vampires, demons/devils and anything that would offend Jesus used to be banned, and other puritan shit like that...

>This meme again

DC and Marvel are going strong: lots of talent, lots of interpretation. If we include movies, it's all going up

Vertigo, Image: cornering the indie comic market well

>Let's look at Japan

Jump, Kodansha: lots of failed works getting cancelled after 3 chapters; overprotective of properties, preventing new writers to have their own unique take on a beloved character

>In the end
Superman still survives because of multiple talent spanning generations
Astroboy died when Tezuka did and are dependent of reprints because no one is allowed to reinterpret the character because reasons

Kids over there draw manga for fun. And quite a few keep up with manga drawing as a hobby for years.

Superman survives because comics are dogshit rehashed for decades. Just look at Hulk, it's something a 10 year old made up to be the STRONGEST character and can beat anyone. Comics are literal dogshit shlock.

>Western comic book industry fucking died and whored the corpse to Hollywood.
You mean small time artists making it to the big screen is a sign of failure. Well, better stick to a small audience self-congratulating you instead of being criticized by the """masses"""

>Webcomics are literally just sociopolitical soapboxes.
You mean the 3 webcomics that are seen as jokes. Clearly someone hasn't read Unsounded.

>Superman still survives because of multiple talent spanning generations
Superman survives because it's superman, even people who like it generally agree it was shit for about 50 years

>overprotective of properties, preventing new writers to have their own unique take on a beloved character
Honestly I think that is Japan's strength. The mainstream capeshit universes become a hassle to keep up with. The stories get too messy with so many writers collaborating where Japanese comics usually just have one person's vision with help from an editor makes for a better experience.

Superman should have ended a very long time ago. There's only so much you can do with a series. It's boring at this point. You already know what's going to happen. Superman will save the day. That's not a story. And that's iconic of the comics industry. Very long running series that have long overstayed their welcome. Nobody reads them because they're not good.

Americans spend most of their time, drawing furry shit.

Also, CalArts made sure every American artist will be cursed with tumblr ary styles for the rest of their lives.

>rehashed for decades
And this is bad because?
>"Ok Johnny, you better stop eating carrots because eating them all the time makes them unhealthy"

>Comics are literal dogshit shlock
Compared to the cancelled comics in Jump that no one buys... EVEN IN JAPAN, the US comic industry looks alive and well and making money.

Not OP
I forgot the title, but I'm pretty sure it's Hinasaki Yo's

Your industry would be dead if it weren't for Disney mass producing brainlet capeshit that panders to the lowest common denominator.

THIS.

Take Pochi for example. She just drew porn and didn't expect to go legit until some magazine editor found her porn at Comiket.

However, it is easier for an artist to become a light novel illustrator than a manga illustrator.

Then, there are artists that get picked up by the video game industry so it isn't like they are limited to only manga or light novels.

>the US comic industry looks alive and well and making money
I literally know ZERO people that read comics. Meanwhile there are a million clubs filled with fat autists that read manga. Japanese comics are more popular in the US than US comics are. The only people that still read comics are greybeards that have been doing it their whole life.

You need to be smart to learn how to draw. The average american's DNA is too mettled to have the brain power for it.

Alan Moore said he regretted making Watchmen since he believed he saved the publisher from bankruptcy.

He actually wished the comics industry went bankrupt decades ago.

>The mainstream capeshit universes become a hassle to keep up with. The stories get too messy with so many writers collaborating where Japanese comics usually just have one person's vision with help from an editor makes for a better experience.

Because "better experience" is ALWAYS good, right? It's better to have one aging editor out of touch with the masses rather than open the doors to let in new talent; nope, better stick to the old Jap way of shutting out everyone, totally logical: just ask Tokugawa.

There's a reason why talented people go to the US rather than Japan; there's a reason whey the European pilgrims settled America rather than Asia.

The fuck is this?

Based Pochi gaining fame with her maternal fantasy.

Aren't marvel's comic sales doing shit?

>food analogy when we're talking about a medium that relies on original content

>DC and Marvel are going strong: lots of talent, lots of interpretation. If we include movies, it's all going up

This is bait.

Hollywood movies are increasingly having weaker openings than their heydays. Even capeshit is affected.

Capeshit fatigue is building up.

Please stop shitposting.

shut up im smart

People in the west can make more money drawing a few illustrations for their patreon than a Japanese earns for drawing a full doujin.
Also Anyway, there are many good western artists, but they prefer drawing illustrations to drawing comics with a story attached to it.

Only Weekly Jump does axing that fast, you fucking newfag.

Meanwhile, Shonen Sunday gives artists one year to survive.

Gookshit webcomics will always remain gookshit.

Time for you to accept that, gook.

>Disney mass producing brainlet capeshit that panders to the lowest common denominator

Oh no making money is bad. Better stick to the Japs and pump out comics no one outside of Japan reads and NOT pay the ones who write and draw them.

All comics should be high-minded philosophical drivel unaccessible to Cletus and Mavis and should just pander to some California boys in UCLA

>Also
See the lack of Disneyland in Japan... oh wait...

Even in American highschools, comics club don't exist.

Meanwhile, you can find anime and manga clubs in American highschools alongside Korean clubs.

Your industry is dead. Western publishers are even starting to kick out the nerds that fund their livelihood in favor of normalfags.

Magic the Gathering is banning the fat fucks that actually their card games just because some cosplay chicks complained over being ranked with other cosplay chicks in their cosplay scene.

Off topic thread but i’ll point out that DC has been growing they’re about to launch a bunch of artist driven titles. I think they will do well if the artists stay on. Also if you hate western shit too much they do stuff like this and that new batman anime

It seems like you're implying that people actually read comics. They don't. That should be indicative of something to you.

>no one outside of Japan reads
How many English comics have fan translations into other languages?

Shut the fuck up, you retarded uneducated highschool dropout.

If Japan didn't shut everyone out, they would have been caught in the European Opium Wars in Asia and gangbanged to death with opium just like China.

Japan was correct in executing all the Portuguese.

At least, the Dutch just wanted to trade with the Japanese instead of converting.

Oh great, more capeshit with the same heroes.

>I literally know ZERO people that read comics
Get to know more people

>Japanese comics are more popular in the US than US comics are.
Looks like someone doesn't know all those Batman comics translated into French, German, and... JAPANESE!

>The only people that still read comics are greybeards that have been doing it their whole life.
Because comics have cross-generational appeal: very few Japs who raped in WW2 are into Haruhi and Steins;Gate

>Anyway, there are many good western artists, but they prefer drawing illustrations to drawing comics with a story attached to it.
this is the only true answer
t.illustrator

Our best artists go into Sup Forums since it pays more and is more technically interesting.

they’ll have new and old characters and new versions of old characters

I'd also like to blame high school and middle school in the west for their focus on the arts in a bad fashion. Literally all lessons are boiled down babysitting. The primary focus is on stylization and individuality poisoned by talentless hacks who read a book about modernism. Meanwhile the east focus their lessons on the Greeks.

>There's a reason why talented people go to the US rather than Japan

Only because America isn't a social country.

Foreign educated doctors from social countries always attempt to come to America due to our higher wages since American doctors are the highest paid in the world.

Also, pilgrims settled in America only because they belonged to a different Christian sect and Europe was always having bloodly rival Christian conflict.

Pilgrims were at risk of being wiped out if they tried to sail to Asia either through the land route or the sea route.

>more capeshit with the same heroes

Much better than Japan's "Hey look at this new shonen with totally different characters"

Superman actually has long lasting appeal: one character but timeless stories

>How many Hollywood movies does Naruto have again?

>How many Hollywood movies does Naruto have again?
I hope none

But the problem is that it's chained to the same IP. The same recurring issues about secret identity and play by the same power rules.
There will never be an extreme divide in western animation again as severe as the Jackie Chan Adventures Batman.

>People in the west can make more money drawing a few illustrations for their patreon

That's a lie. No Western artist ever reached Tony Taka level.

He just needs to draw a few illustrations for a year and that's it. He already earned enough money for the year.

He already earns enough royalty checks for all his work.

Presence and complete imdependence for doujinshi artists while the comic industry in the west is owned and controlled by a few

>Get to know more people
I know a lot of people. Nobody reads comics. They're dying out. That's why comic clubs don't exist anymore. The few comic stores that still exist are barely hanging on and most of them have put comics as secondary to selling MtG and Funko Pops.

>Looks like someone doesn't know all those Batman comics translated into French, German, and... JAPANESE!
Straw man. Not what I was talking about. I said that manga is more popular in the US than actual US comics.

>Because comics have cross-generational appeal: very few Japs who raped in WW2 are into Haruhi and Steins;Gate
That's a problem then because that's what appeals to younger people. Almost nobody younger than 40 reads comics.

>Hollywood movies are increasingly having weaker openings than their heydays

They said that about Snyder's movies: look how they've rebounded

Even Marvel's weakest made more money than Scarlet Major Kusanagi the Movie (tm)

Manga is flat out exponentially more popular than comics.
Maybe it's because it's very easy to find the latest chapters for popular things translated and for free.
Where do you find capeshit for free?
No one knows anyone who reads comics. Where are all the comic clubs? Why are there so many cancerous anime clubs?

edgy. they should have just deported them

almost every comic gets scanned on wednesday there’s a thread on Sup Forums for it

>Hollywood movies are increasingly having weaker openings than their heydays.

That's what Vice/Huffpost/Mary Sue/Vox critics said about the current movies that have *insert white demographic* supremacy

>japs draw better than americans
um sorry sweety

>Much better than Japan's "Hey look at this new shonen with totally different characters"
I disagree that raping the same IP for literally an entire century is better than making new stories with different characters.

>Superman actually has long lasting appeal: one character but timeless stories
They're not timeless, they're dated. That's why nobody reads them anymore.

>How many Hollywood movies does Naruto have again?
Don't blame the Japanese for inadequacies of Hollywood that resulted in things like Dragonball: Evolution, a movie that was so fucking shit that the original author rebooted the series and made his own animated movies, followed by Dragonball Super to get the bad taste out of his mouth.

...

>Even in American highschools, comics club don't exist.

Clubs are mostly for niches hobbies so that losers won't feel their alone.

The comic industry is so widespread and diverse enough that it's out in the open.

There is a huge difference between having to go on Sup Forums just to find the latest chapter ( and probably only the newest few ) vs being able to google "manga website" and having a massive library of all the popular manga.
I do the same for comics and I get...websites that I would not feel safe browsing without adblock and noscript.

A real problem with american comics is the cost they’re even expensive in japan. Big books, full color people demand this in american markets

>Presence and complete independence for doujinshi artists
Without it we will never get something like this

Didn't read thread but the ideogrammatic nature of Asian languages seems to play a part

>making new stories with different characters.

Because all the different shonen manga are different and don't fall into the same stereotypes, right?

Jokes aside, Togashi is one hell of a mangaka.

One thing this thread show is cancerous infestation of Sup Forums on this board. Its like cockroaches spawming out of all corners when light is turned on.

>Comics are so popular that they've surpassed having clubs
That's a level of delusion only someone that reads capeshit with no plot every week could have.

>her maternal fantasy.
Don't you mean incestual?

For the record, the comics industry is not dying. I'd consider it "healthy" sales-wise, mainly because there's so much film-related content to buoy sales.

However, if capeshit films had never gotten popular, the comic industry would probably be dead.

comichron.com/vitalstatistics/alltime.html

Maybe your problem is that you're only reading shonen manga?

>so this is the power of contrarians. not bad

>they’re even expensive in japan

Gotta actually give a liveable wage to artists and writers, you know

Japan's method of here's two cents I want 10 new chapters yesterday might break a few worker's rights clauses

Who is the dobson of Japanese comics?

Those kind of websites are for casuals. Most people use read comics online. You shouldn’t use mangafox or anything similar

>high-minded philosophical drivel
>pander to some California boys in UCLA
Haha, it's obvious you haven't actually been to UCLA.

People are getting bored of those movies. They can only keep the comics industry on life support for so long.
