I honestly dont think this series is as good as a lot of people are saying. I've been constantly hearing a lot of people saying. " best written anime ever made" or " best shonen ever made"

to me its good but not as good as people are saying. but I guess since this series is the next hype series it's expected, it seems ever year we get a series that's just a little better than the average series, and then you hear alot of people saying it's the best series ever.
Well, do you guys think this series is overrated?

It’s overrated by people jumping on the bandwagon but it’s still one of my favourite shounen manga. I enjoy it too much to say otherwise.

All good things are overrated, and this is no exception.
Still the best action/adventure/battle shonen out there.

I agree, but desu Yorkshin is the best shounen arc I've seen.

What is the best way to start? Old anime, new anime or just fuck it and read za mango?

Read a couple volumes of the manga, then watch a few episodes of each anime and see which method of adapting it you prefer.

I agree. Yorkshin was the only good arc, rest are shit.

name better story
whatever it is, im pretty sure i can called it shit

I'm on episode 15 and really enjoying it so far

learn engrish first hunta tardo

> but I guess since this series is the next hype series it's expected
The fuck are you talking about?
The latest anime is from fucking 2011 and its still seen as great.
Shit like Re:Zero or MHA are "hyped seasons of the year" because after a few months once they finished a LOT of people start to point out bullshit about them or just plain boredom.
In HxH2011 most people arent ending it with a "overrating horseshit".

Hunter x Hunter is easily the best written shonen manga.

>muh wan piss sells
If Togashi wrote 3 volumes per year, he would've sold more than Wan Piss.

>solid character development
>interesting power limitations and use (not limited to dbz numbers ''I have 4000ki you have 500000 so you're stronger)
>periodic changes is arks with new stuff from fighting tournaments to all out wars

>cons: it's probably on hiatus

no good hxh thread can start without a bait

>but I guess since this series is the next hype series it's expected, it seems ever year we get a series that's just a little better than the average series.

Two things wrong with that. The series' most recent adaptation came out 6-7 years ago.

And calling it "The next hype" doesn't make any sense because this is a 20 year old series'. This is just the kind of thing newfriends would say getting into the series through the anime

hype series? it is probably older than you. hxh is a good shonen and is older than naruto or one piece lol

>lol

screencap this, when gon comes back in 2030 he is going to be a specialist

Having seen old shonen stuff such as Saint Seiya, Zillion, YYH and so on back then (besides whatever tokusatsu was being aired at the time), I grew used to think that fights couldn't get better, tactically/strategically speaking, than that. Once I learned that they could indeed be done better, not only I started enjoying manga/anime with smart MCs, I stopped caring for MCs who aren't smart, and/or forsake optimal tactics/strategy for audience appeal (honor/hotbloodedness/friendship/effort/coolness/other moral values).
Unfortunately, for Japan, emotional appeal sells more than smarts. Have watched a few episodes of the old HxH anime (up until the hunter exam arc), they were quite slow and the amount of strategical content was low too, didn't feel motivated to continue watching.

>talks about strategy/tactics in shonen anime
saint seiya is not best option to prove your point, user. its literal beam shit + o my cosmos + speed light punches and kicks
and there is stratagy since the beginning of hunter x, like the fight with the candles, stealing the badge of your opponent when he is taking someone else badge, and then the heavens arena arc when gon fights the spin dude, then against hizoka, the battle between hizoka and kastro...
the list goes on, not all tactics have to be extremely complex to be called a "tactic", even something as simple as to attack your target when he his bussy attacking his own target is a tactic/strategy
tl:dr the is tactics and straregy in hxh

>btw never implied it was the best, i just like it
there you go, naruto came out 1999. i made a mistake in my statement one piece existed in 1997, but togashi created yyh which existed before op. yyh used a similar approach to hxh in story telling and fights.

>I honestly dont think this series is as good as a lot of people are saying
Watch more anime. I mean it. The reason people praise this one as much as they do is because there isn't much competition

...

HxH and JoJo have the most strategy you'll find in a battle shounen.

That's the problem with long-running series; the readers/watchers invested so much time catching up to the manga/anime (that thing where "you've already spent a lot of time on this, no way you're going to drop it and throw all that time away"), that they won't bother investing even more time into yet another long-running manga/anime, so they'll defend their favorite and refuse to check more manga/anime (while optionally trying to get other people into their favorite manga/anime).

No, the problem is that the people that don't understand why HxH is rated so high have seen at best 30 series like OP

Saw the Hisoka x Chrollo one, Chrollo had a single gameplan (hide in the crowd, send bombmen to Hisoka), it worked without him having to change anything in it (Hisoka tried some different approaches to counter that, at least). Netero x Meruem's one was bad (Netero tries to use a summoned thing to beat Meruem, who dodges, cuts Netero's arm so he can't pray, it doesn't work because "the prayer comes from the heart", then the statue fires a beam at Meruem, who survives, then Netero blows himself up. Many moments of dramatic pause and buildup, for so few actual decisions), Kurapika vs. Uvogin, Kurapika did one smart thing (sort of, which was tricking Uvogin into focusing into his visible chain), then the fight was over.

>OP
>fuckton of chapters by itself
30 series like OP/HxH is too much.

You're actually retarded

world trigger outclasses both

Same old story : Some shounenshit autists hyping up their favourite never ending mess of a series.

pitou is cute i love her

Sure dude, keep telling yourself that :^)

It's good, really good actually, but the fans do over hype and make fun of other shonen when comparing it.

i wanna fug the bug

b8

First 70 episodes are good.
And the last 13 episodes.

Otherwise, Absolute fucking shit.

Well, maybe those two Phantom Troupe episodes...

tbqh, I'm a BNHAfag, and I've never watched HxH, so I can't speak on the series directly.

What I can say is that people, especially here on Sup Forums, spend far too much time looking for a "perfect" anime, and forget to enjoy all the good anime that go with it.

Please just love the anime you love, and continue to support the medium!

>bnhafag
>admitting that you like the worst shonen since fairy tail
You're manga is trash and it will be axed soon. Keep eating shit while you can fag.

Why do I hate the protagonist's character design so much? It's like every other shonen lead fell into a blender.

What, you mean the spiky hair and shorts? Why are you being this much of a drama queen, is this par for course for "evolved" a/m fags?

What was actually wrong with Fairy Tail though? I stopped after Natsu's dead childhood girlfriend came back to life from a different dimension but I still thought it was pretty unique

op = original post / original poster
dont be silly user

It's definitely the best-written shonen out there, at the very least. I'm legitimately sorry for those who can't see it.

hey its you again

>HxHfags
>talk at length and in detail about why they think HxH is the best battle shounen
>You
>"It's good but I don't think it's that good"

Fair enough but do you have any actual thoughts or opinions with substance to discuss? People like to talk about HxH so this thread will get discussion either way but I really don't understand OPs who offer literally nothing to an argument, you've already lost to fans who like the series enough to talk about specifics. I will say that HxH isn't really a hype series, it has been popular since it was first published with a boost thanks to 2011.

No, those two things aren't in contradiction with eachother.

it's the most pretentious and boring manga i've ever read but since it's super edgy, don't be surprised to see so many people loving it.

it is also a real fucking pain in the ass to read the whatever island arc btw

It's slightly better than your average shounen probably due to the fact that the lazy hack has more days off than actually drawing/writing the manga so he has more time to plan ahead.

...

O

What? I didn't say they were contradictory, I compared the effort they put into their posts.

>name the flaws, pajeet, nobody cares about what you think

MY

>greentext unrelated

I agree with the guy. I have no problem with standard shonen designs but there was something about Gon's design that always put me off and took me a couple episodes to get used to.

I also find ging's face really punchable, am I supposed to find him cool?

RUBBER

So far, the only poster to talk about HxH's merits was , "best written shonen" doesn't really explain anything. By which criteria can someone say that it's written "better"?

shounenshits are all bad, but hxh is the most tolerable

I don't mean in this particular thread, I mean in general. There have been so many lengthy discussions about why HxH is good and what it does well, only a newfag wouldn't have seen them. But those discussions tend to come from more thought provoking posts which contain points to actually argue against.

Naruto is better.

>you've already lost
implies otherwise

there's a difference between thinking that HxH is good/acknowledging what it does well, and claiming HxH to be the "best written shonen". So far, there is nothing to support such claim.

hxh is the best written shounen, there you have it

>solid character development
>Gon
>Leorio
>Kurapika
Are you kidding me? Killua is the only good character with decent development in the whole damn manga.

>it's not THAT good
>well I think it is
What is even the point of discussion like this?

Do we count early Vinland saga as shounenshit before it got moved to a different magazine?

>"best written anime ever made"
Nobody said this, ever.

Welcome to the internet

I am sure at some point a 99friend has made that claim

>but there was something about Gon's design that always put me off
It's because it looks like it belongs in a monster/card collecting anime and not a conventional battle shounen
>am I supposed to find him cool?
he's a yusuke expy so duh

leorio started as a mature guy, his only flaws to be developed were him being too hotblooded but he had too little screentime
kurapika has changed a lot too, he is not the edgy avenger he used to be. he can work in team now and accept the help of others also he can prioritize peoples live (queen otto and her son) over his personal revenge: in a certain point he found the spiders in the boat but he choose to ignore them not because he forgot about them but because he had more important things to do, and still too little screentime but far more than leorio
i agree with you about killua, he is by far the most well developed of the main cast, hell maybe of the entire series
and yes fuck gon for being the same shithead the entire series. some may say is on purpose because togashi wanted gon to be like that but sound like giving togashi too much credit for me
