Possible reasons why I think Kadokawa went full retard:
1. KF is now a big boy franchise and can no longer be entrusted to a ragtag group of indie animators regardless of how talented and reliable they seem.
2. Tatsuki, irodori and Yaoyorozu were getting too big and the fans were off doing who knows what, so Kadokawa needed to reassert control.
3. They suddenly wanted to take the franchise somewhere else entirely and had no need for what Tatsuki had come up with.
Since Yaoyorozu was let go so suddenly, I don't think there was a creative dispute.

It was supposedly a difference of creative direction to take the series in and Kadokawa not wanting to give up as much creative control now that it actually makes money. Basically they wanted to be able to make committee approved changes to the show.

I imagine they want to make it a children focused franchise like Doraemon or Pokemon. Something that can go on forever and ever, so long as it makes money. A set and determined plotline (which Tatsuki might have had in mind?) has no use to such a franchise.
