A fucking Hollywood movie has a better script...

>A fucking Hollywood movie has a better script, worldbuilding and better themes than any anime released in the 21st century.

When did Japan stop trying?

2049 was shit though.

Isekai, idolshit and "boat" girl shit. When was the last time we had a cyberpunk anime?

>When did Japan stop trying?
When the keys were passed to man children that cared more about female art and sexual attractiveness than about creating interesting worlds and ideas

I don't know if Japan stopped trying, but it was a mistake to have most anime protagonists be children.
Also, what did you guy's think of Watanabe's short:
youtube.com/watch?v=rrZk9sSgRyQ

I liked how they decided to tie the Blade Runner universe and Cowboy Bebop universe together. In one of the episodes (maybe Speak Like a Child), they talk about the 2022 data blackout.

I think BLAME! did a great job with that kinda stuff.
I dunno about factual/objective stuff, but I personally think dropping a reader into a world with little explanation, just everything already "is", like the Silicon androids and shit.

I really liked it. Was short, sweet and simple. I really wish they touched more on the blackout in the movie other than it just being randomly brought up at times.

Like always the animation from Watanabe was great.

Then Nihei went and gave us Sidonia,

watch more anime

What would you suggest?

>2049
>better script
>worldbuilding
>themes
You can talk shit about anime all you want but if you're coming in here to tell me fucking Blade Runner 2049 is some sort of benchmark in any other metric that 'Shitty Fucking Movies' then I'll just tell you to fuck right off with that, mate.

Oh boy

t. brainlet

>You can talk shit about anime all you want but if you're coming in here to tell me fucking Blade Runner 2049 is some sort of benchmark in any other metric that 'Shitty Fucking Movies' then I'll just tell you to fuck right off with that, mate.
Tell me whatever you want, won't change the fact that nothing Japan has done this in the last 17 years touches it.

...

Check Texhnolyze for starters, you underage faggot.

I'm not interested in the opinions of crossboarders like you. Don't come on to a board you have only visited one or twice and think anyone cares about your unconstructive drivel. Go back to wherever you came from.

you don't watch very much anime and you also don't watch very many movies if you unironically think BR2049 is anything groundbreaking or new.

>no actual refutes

Not surprised

>if you
Would be nice if it was only him huh?

Most of your favorite anime directors are also praising it

I think /wsr/ may be another board.

YOU didn't provide any evidence for your proposition. Let me guess: you are a 12 year old American, right?

>he hasn't seen The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl

three series posted in this thread have superior world building to 2049, which doesn't even come close to managing to capture the setting of the PKD source material the movies are based on. You're lucky there are always enough newfags around to spoonfeed you, go run along with your new recs.

Aside from Kino's Journey, Spice & Wolf, Samurai Champloo, Mushishi, Aria, and a million other series? Sure.

>Most of your favorite anime directors
Such as?

Are you telling me I can't talk shit about anime on Sup Forums?
Who the fuck are you?

What was the point of quoting his entire post?

This is lil' user, he's new here. Give him a break.

I'll never forget when Del Toro came to Japan and was touring a lot of otaku culture sites. They handed him a copy of Madoka like it was some kind of Crown Jewel to their country.

I've never heard him discuss or talk about it, probably threw it in the back of his closet when he got home

Are you for real? It's true that most anime aren't very good, but there are still a couple of actually great anime a year at least. I'd list as much as I can think, but some faggot would just shitpost about how they think they're bad using buzzwords, so I'll just name Haibane Renmei.
And you know, 2049 wasn't a good movie anyway, so you don't even have to search for the few actually great anime to surpass it.

It's hard to be an auteur on the level of Villeneuve when most anime is made for commercial purposes.

Gay bears > BR2049

Texhnolyze, Ergo Proxy, Kino's Journey, Haibane Renmei.

That's all I can think of from the top of my head.

There's anime just this last season that had better and more original worldbuilding and themes than that hollywood flick. And other stuff.

As if Del Toro's drivel is any better than Madoka. I bet he probably liked anyway.

>Spice & Wolf

Bad example, user.

Man you dumb kids just spooning this guy some fossilized recs

Such as?

You already know Blade Runner is not really an average 'hollywood movie', OP. It's not the best example you could have used too, though.

Lurk at the very least a single day

Not a disgusting cuckold porn masturbating meme stickying Sup Forums shit that's for sure

So you can't name any, can you? Surely you aren't referring to garbage like Made in Abyss or Potato Girls.

>responding to bait

Came here to post this

>we want the flubber audience

Dude, the webm is the anime he's talking about

Made in Abyss wasn't even last season. Lurk at least a day, please.

>Black male replicant and white female replicant
Even anime got BLACKED

Didn't the original Blade Runner single-handedly inspire most science fiction in anime?

Still got to catch 2049 but not surprised that is probably better than most anime.

I thought the main character development in this anime was far better, but it is a damn long haul.

fbp

Don't be like that. I'm sure user believes all the stupid shit he is spouting.

Well MiA didn't air this season but I'm sure you can tell me in detail what's so bad about it. That is if you have actually watched it.

>Didn't the original Blade Runner single-handedly inspire most science fiction in anime?

kemono friends

Texhnolyze sucks ass.

It suffers from the same issues Lain does, it puts all the effort into pretending there's some deeper message when it's basic as fuck and hands it to you on a silver platter anyway.

>Blade Runner single-handedly inspire most science fiction in anime
hahaha, oh man.

All these other reccs are pretty bad, but if you want to watch some actually decent anime that competes against the best of western stuff I'd say you should watch all of Masaaki Yuasa's stuff. It's all pretty artful and un-pretentious unlike slightly above average meme directors villeneuve/nolan/innaritu. Isao Takahata's princess kaguya was really good too. Although, you're probably just gonna glaze over this post and not watch any of these recommendations anyway.

>Masaaki Yuasa

Let me guess, you also like Kojima

Why so?

Thanks mods for allowing cancer to kill Sup Forums. I hope you and your gook overlord die of a terrible death.

Yeah it's true, Japan had literally no interest in science fiction before Blade Runner plopped out.

No, he's like a shitter George Lucas. What's wrong with Masaaki Yuasa, visual style not anime enough for you?

>un-pretentious
C'mon dude.

user don't try to deny facts. The fucking creators of Akira, Cowboy Bebop, GitS, Ergo Proxy, Lain, Psycho Pass and Outlaw Star have all sited it as big inspiration in their works

...

>user don't try to deny facts.

Most of these people live and breathe by animu, you really expect them to not be delusional enough to accept anything that isn't part of their "culture"?

Wow you just about shot every newfag thinly-veiled shounen series square center and even included the most famous anime film of all time as a cherry on top. Share with me your meticulously crafted opinions on this medium with hundreds of thousands of individual titles.

Nobody said there wasn't any influence but most?

>cyberpunk anime is influenced by BR aesthetic
No shit, like many other mediums.
BUT
Not all science fiction anime is cyberpunk you piece of shit.

>kino
nothing happens, bad philosophical show which doesn't understand philosophy
>spice and wolf
babby's first exchange rates and bartering
>samurai champloo
it's a cool show but it's just some vagrants swinging around metal sticks
>mushishi
like kino but even less happens
>aria
nothing happens

pick better shows Sup Forumsnon

He's just a kid, be nice to him.

/wsr/ is fucking useless. None of the people from Sup Forums who tell you to go to /wsr/ actually contribute to it as a board.

>t.moefag that can't stand the fact that the anime industry has already died just like Miyazaki and Anno predicted

Don't even start with this reductionist bullshit. We can do the same thing to BR2049

What criticism do you have other than that his stuff features unconventional visuals? His stories are all well laid out and told in an engaging manner without trying to be purposefully obscure. Lain on the other hand...

Did this movie end up being good? First one was pretty decent.

I do.

I do on the rare occasion that I'm struggling with a source location. That's the nature of the board.

If you want to find anime to watch on Sup Forums all you gotta do is lurk. Making threads like this leads to shitposting which is it's own fun but good luck being given anything but shitty recs from newfags and shit fling from oldfags who are off discussing good series in open daylight in other threads.

>I like yuasa cuz looks pretentious but it shallow like my ass
woah dude

What the fuck happened to Sup Forums?

Gave me some hope in Hollywood, at least.
Then The Last Jedi happened.

I liked it a lot.It made really question my motivations about a lot of things in life.

I said pick better shows
if you chose actual good shows like the ones by Yuasa, Chiaki Konaka, ABe, Ishiguro Noboru etc then maybe you wouldn't look like a pretentiousfag trying to seem intellectual

i wasn't a big fan of the first one. 2049 ended up being a masterpiece tho

Tons of oldfags left due to shitty moderation policy the place was getting increasingly. Half the people here haven't been here more than a year or two.

>looks pretentious
I bet you're one of the retards who screenshots an animation smear and says a show has shit animation

Irony.

>Yuasa
>Konaka
>Abe

hey its someone with good taste on Sup Forums, I didn't know there were any patricians around nowadays

>Then The Last Jedi happened.
What was wrong with it exactly? I've just seen a lot of people saying it's the worse thing ever without much reasoning.

I'm not saying he is bad but he is definitely pretentious exactly because of what you described. His stories are good (at leas for the most part) but for some reason he feels the need to go the extra mile just to stand out more.

>Discussing a movie that most of the world is praising that even a lot of Japanese animators helped craft and build the world is bad discussion

There's no help for you people

they finally realized that they invested their whole life in a shitty movie for kids made to sell toys

greentexting and posting a reaction face isn't an argument faggot

It isn't anime.

watch cr1tikal's video on the last jedi. it pretty much summarizes everything wrong with it

nigga, that's literally starter pack tier shit in his list.

Oh boy, you're not going to go far around here with that attitude.

Stop trying so hard to fit in.
