>downloading 300 MB animu episode for 12 hours
Thank fuck.

Once vr is good you'll be all over it and happy you lived that long.

>300 MB
Look at this fancy boy. You haven't experienced anime if you didn't have to watch it in 120p. Hardsubbed.

Feels good man

>Hardsubbed
It's not that long ago that hardsubs were standard.

I have some really really old encodes that I can't even open. What the fuck plays .viv anymore?

Really? Most of stuff I watched needed external subs. I remember it because I had to sync them every episode.

early 2000's almost every anime i watched was hardsubbed. the only time i had to add subtitles was for western movies

I only started downloading anime in the mid 00s. Probably around 2005. I remember not knowing how the fuck bittorrent worked and thinking the torrent files themselves were the video files. AVI files (and hardsub) were standard and I remember a few fansub groups moving to MP4 for various reasons.

Never even heard of that. Does it open with VLC or MPC or anything? Reminds me of late 90s video games and their weird filetypes for video files.

*.rm masterrace

It's some player that RealNetwork ended up buying out, Vivo Active Player. But no downloads work for it. I really just want to see the video quality on it, it's been sitting on my HDD forever.

It was just as cancerous.

Could be worse. Web 0.0, wait for the bootleg VHS tapes to make the rounds.

softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Video-Players/Vivo-Player-DX.shtml

>tfw still have like 4 boxes full of bootleg vhs stored in the shed
the golden days, then i got into the laser disk meme.

I forgot I couldn't run this because I don't have an XP VM.

Upload it to Mega or something. Maybe other people can figure it out.

>during the web 1.0 era
What era is that anyway? Wouldn't that be like the 1970s? As an aside, I was there when anime started getting distributed online in the late 90s/early 2000s. And fuck was it a pain to use IRC/Hotline. People today don't know how good they have it just looking for 10 seconds and downloading a torrent.

VHS was so comfy. :_: The poor image quality was literally it's only flaw.

Bullshit. VHS fucking sucked ass.
>VCR's randomly eating tapes
>having to use a rewinder to rewind them all the way back to the beginning
>start and stop ate your tape 90% of the time

Jesus son, that's one cheap ass VCR you had

At least Han shot Greedo in the VHS era.

Goods, so I won't have to deal with racist nips online.

>VCR's randomly eating tapes
Literally never happened to me during my 20 years of using the format, except 2 times in the 1990's, where a faulty tape with a manufacturer's defect in it was always the culprit. Not my problem, if you used shitty players (lemme guess: Philips?), my JVC from 1997 is still there in the corner, ready to rock 'n roll on a moments notice.

>having to use a rewinder to rewind them all the way back to the beginning
I don't see how this is an issue to anyone, who isn't a lazy fuck.

>start and stop ate your tape 90% of the time
See my previous comment about using a shitty player.

Yeah, heck mine still kicking to this day, just finished watching gundam 79 the other day

The web was invented in 1990. The internet is not the same thing.

I got it actually, the quality is fucking insanely shit.

Now Shinji is REALLY going to be fucked up

Not OP, but I had two of the 6 Nuku Nuku OAVs in that format. I downloaded them from a sharing software called Hotline and had to download a separate player for Windows 98 in order to be able to watch them.

>looking for japanese art sites in web circles
vs
>looking for japanese art on the mess that is twitter

It's gotten worse.

it's translated "i'm the lowest of the low" on this release

>16 kbps audio
Heh

Yeah the player I'm using is in that screenshot and it's an absolute piece of shit. If I do anything other than pause the video like go full screen, exit full screen, make the window bigger it restarts the entire video from the start and the seek bar doesn't work.

You can almost make out the nipple.

I miss the time when everyone had their own website or blog, and they all had a fancy self-made layout design. Social media sites really killed web designing.

Holy shit the audio gets distorted like ~25-30 minutes in and sounds like demons repeating what they say.

I found out I also have ep 1 of Eva, Love Hina 1-4, Marmalade Boy 1, and the 2nd part of the movie.

I miss when torrents got to the point of like .5-1mb/s if you had good connection, 720p rips started to get common, but fansubbing was still booming. That and megaupload/mediafire etc. still really didn't give a fuck so if you wanted something old a forum would have links somewhere.

When i started it was already the .rmvb era. I still have a bunch of violinist of hamelin and slayers episodes in that format
When did rmvb get popular again?

Early 2000's I guess.

>21 years old
More than the average age of 4channers. Fuck.

>web 1.0
But I only had fourth world internet during that time. I would not be able to shitpost with the lovely anons on Sup Forums.

There's just no way that message was real. Usenet was much more linguistically sophisticated than that.

don't believe eternal september fags lies, even in usenet days there were fags shitposting

This shitposting looks better than our current shitposting desu

>Nihilis595

Look up 'Nihilis595', you can still find the exact post and the responses.

youtube.com/watch?v=CdlPcFG5zM0

Nuku Nuku a cute.

Yeah, it's fucking crazy, dude. I can still mostly remember what I did in 1996.

>Tfw can't remember anything past 95
teach me your ways master user

which year was that?
let me recall what I was doing then

I mean, we used to have to obtain raw media and read along with a translated script.

My dad didn't like chinese cartoons so I learned to transcode lucky star to ipod format.

Come back to me when you remember what you were doing in 1976.
I do.
Mostly pissing myself and blaming the dog.

The 70s were truly a great time.

All I really had for anime then were reruns of Speed Racer, Kimba the White Lion and Astro Boy.
Eventually got Star Blazers.

Aha this is great

>this camerawork

Will people in 2036 be posting screenshots of 2016 Sup Forums posts?

How is retirement going, pop?

I live in California. I can't retire until I'm 90.

More people have their own websites now than ever before. It's just now there are 1000 times as many people on the internet, search engines only serve advertisements, and webrings don't exist, so they're hard to find.

how old is Sup Forums? i just turned 30 and i don't ever want to go back to those days. we only had AOL, which gave us a 3-4 kB/s download speed and i remember leaving my computer on all night to download a single episode of a heavily compressed 40 MB video of pokemon only for the connection to drop out at 70% due to a fucking phone call. besides that, my only other access to anime were birthday/christmas gifts. i still have my old dvd box sets of ranma season 4, 5, and 6 that my parents bought for me which cost $100 each.

truly, those were some horrible times.

And the moral panic. Don't forget the moral panic.

I cant even remember life from 5 years ago

Did anyone remember a site called Advanced Anime?

I CAN NOT UNHEAR IT

>connection to drop out at 70% due to a fucking phone call
I don't remember this. Internet took priority over phonecalls, as in if someone called you their call just didn't go through, it didn't drop your connection.

You don't remember your mom trying to make a call while you were online?

no, they will still refer back to usenet and ancient romans. This era we find ourselves in will forever be wretched.

Oh, if that's what you meant then yeah.

I blame Sup Forums for getting Trump elected. It will forever be our tarnished legacy.

Future scholars, take notice of this.

>reading one of my archived messages i saved in a txt file
>meep!................(^'.'^)....[Hiya everyone!]

hahaha

That's aesthetic as fuck, user.

How old are you?

I'm just saying it quite perfectly fits the stylized 90s aesthetic, which is weird just because of how it happened by complete accident in the modern day.

FUCK YOU FOR REMINDING ME!!!!!!!!!

Where was the destination of this post

I miss mail orders and magazines actually being useful since you couldn't just go on the internet and look things up easily. It made having that knowledge special. ;_;

Wow, if anime was dead in 96 imagine how dead it must be now.

Fucking Romans get to be remembered for all of history while this century will probably be a footnote.

We have deviantart for that now.

What is this, a bloatgirls release?

The shitty art wasn't entirely related to my post. I just thought it was funny that some 42 year old dude has his drawing next to the work of 12 year olds.

The first german anime magazine started in 1994, I still have the digital archive of the first 50 volumes.

Nice. What was is called? I only have a couple episodes of Animerica from around the time when Pokemon first aired in the US.

AnimaniA, it still exists but not with the original team from back then.
For volume 6 they had used this image as cover, uncensored: danbooru.donmai.us/posts/337279

>AnimaniA
Nice. That's a pretty ballsy cover.

Some gallery site or something isn't it?

...

Europe doesn't have the kind of "nipples = porn" hysteria the US has. I live in Norway, that cover isn't any worse than the kind of covers our Conan the Barbarian and Modesty Blaise magazines regularly had, and those were displayed in plain sight in grocery stores alongside childrens' comic books without anyone caring.

it really is stupid, but there is nothing US can do really. there is no out, not even as a "its art, fuck off" power play.

>mail order
I don't miss that. Everything was overpriced as fuck. Someone I knew accumulated a debt of then 10k german dollars because they ordered so much back in the mid 90s.

your just saying that because your blinded by nostalgia

I had bootleg island internet in the early 00s, I think we finally got it around 2004. Before that, nothing. I had an old laptop and sat under the table with my back to the wall looking at porn, it was a constant struggle because an image took minutes to load and my parents kept telling me to unplug that shit because no one could get through on the phone. Then I'd go back to my room, hiding my boner, so I could fap to that one pic I managed to load of some slut from Gundam.

Croatia, 1991 - The Eve Of War.

I'm 6 years old and I have a fever. It's winter. To keep me amused while I'm miserable and vaguely coherent dad goes out to rent something for me to watch while he's working. He returns with two tapes.

One was Macross DYRL. The other? The other was Angel's Egg.

You cannot imagine how absolutely blown away I was watching Angel's Egg while running a fever. I felt as if God was refining me in a furnace, or as if I came in contact with something beyond mere humanity.

For reference here's just the first jewtube result. I truly recommend Angel's Egg. This is just some review, but you can connect the dots.

>6 yo kid with a fever living in a small Balkan village
>likes cartoons
>dad has no idea what he's doing and leaves him alone at night with this masterpiece

youtube.com/watch?v=2PJePhJY76U

I became a different person after that. The second time this happened was in the late 90s when I watched NGE for the first time. As for Angel's Egg I totally forgot about it until last year when I was looking for stuff to watch. I was once more taken for a ride, because I suddenly realized that I have seen this before and actually doubted reality for a while.

Magazines are still useful in Japan. A lot of them still don't have digital editions and have furoku with fun stuff.

I'm a bit jealous of that retro side they have.
