Maidragon isn't really a comedy; it's a story about self-discovery, obligation and personal bonds. Fat dragons is cute and heartwarming in how it takes the opposite path of Flying Witch by starting with high-energy magical shenanigans early on before gently slipping further into a slice of life setting filled with personal reconciliations and lifestyle adjustments (although, the manga does continually return to dabble in the fantasy/magical aspects which provides more development for Kobayashi and, often to some extent, Tohru). I'm fairly certain by now that people are just mad that a Kyoani show got a bunch of publicity in early 2017. I really don't understand the vitriol.
