Yume Nikki is a masterpiece about an artist's dream.
The best part of the game are the theories surrounding it.

Manga was the interpretation of a literally who idiot, the only thing I take from the manga as canon is the age of the girls, since there was this discussion about Madotsuki actually being 30 or some shit like that. I'm still interested in that Light Novel though.

This shitty teaser gets the feel of Yume Nikki completely wrong. It goes for the creepypasta "oh so scary" feel that shit like Doki Doki Literature Club has instead of that unnervingly calm and surreal atmosphere of the original game.

That's the charm of it.

Not sure how to put it, but the game was so fascinating to me because it was genuinely mysterious, I wasn't sure what the authors intention was.
This trailer lacked that feeling, felt like cheap callbacks and spooks. I saw the man behind the curtain and the reactions he wanted out of me, which is something I never felt when playing Yume Nikki.
Anyone else know what I mean? Is there a word for this?

Pretty much what I felt when I played it first time. I spend two years just wandering the game from time to time, then one day I found a random thing, gain an ability and decided to look the web. I loved the fact that you didn’t have a purpose in the game. This new YN lacks any mistery.

I played this again the other day and those fuckers still give of an unsettling feeling unlike anything in any other game.

I liked Yume Nikki better when they didn't try to explain things. Everything was left to the player interpretation. I hope this new project, whatever it is, keeps with that unlike the manga which IMO ruined it.

the manga is just another interpretation of the story, just like any of the MADs, comics or fanart or theories are, I don't single it detracts from what you get out of it, it's just another perspective.
