Is there any etiquette about scanlating hentai raws? Should you ask the uploader whether you can use the raws first if they're an actual Japanese group, or does nobody really give a fuck? Wondering because all of the raws I usually work on are commercially available tanks or digital RAWs but I've been thinking about scanlating a doujin I want in English lately.
>Is there any etiquette about scanlating hentai raws? No. >Should you ask the uploader whether you can use the raws first if they're an actual Japanese group Nobody gives a fuck. You can always credit the uploader in the description/credit page.
Christian Nelson
>Should you ask the uploader whether you can use the raws first Yeah bud, and don't forget to get the actual mangaka's permission too.
Eli Jones
Look, there's a thing such as etiquette among scanlators and I didn't feel like pissing anybody off unnecessarily, I didn't know if the Japs gave a shit. I probably should've just assumed they didn't, but meh. thanks, got it
Cameron Butler
>there's a thing such as etiquette among scanlators Hah, no there isn't.
Jaxson Peterson
Look, there's a thing such as etiquette among scanlators It doesn't actually sound like you're in a position to say so, since you had to ask in the first place.
Adam Miller
Fuck it feels nice to work on artist cgs. Unlike manga or doujinshi you barely have anything to redraw if at all.
Nathaniel Parker
Thank you for being scanlators.
Carter Taylor
Will it bother people if an ESL-kun like me tries to scanlate shit? Would like to try it out to train my nip.
Jeremiah Sanchez
Just get someone to proofread your shit.
Lincoln Rodriguez
Do it in your original language.
Cameron Robinson
But I don't want to translate stuff for them, they have shittaste.
Brayden Rodriguez
Hey what are some good fonts used for fucking? I haven't done much hentai and have just been using DJB Carley Sue here but it's kinda boring.
Robert Myers
Search for handwritting fonts on dafont, user.
Juan Miller
>Is there any etiquette about scanlating hentai raws Free for all internet bloodsports
Joseph Harris
On the middle of supervising a new shorts. Coming soon.
Tyler Jenkins
...
Ryan Price
Why are you scanlating porn? You are throwing away hours and hours of your time so that greasy anons can have a quick fap.
Levi Phillips
someone's gotta do it faggot
Nicholas Brown
no, only the most autistic of autists gives two fucks and those two fucks quit ages ago
Jeremiah Hernandez
I’ve always wanted to scanlate for my own pleasure and I might as well make use of my moon knowledge, are there any good guides?
Gabriel Phillips
>tfw making a hobby out of fixing Google Translate subs I barely speak basic Japanese, but it's easy to figure out in context with the translate subs, and the words that are still in Russian are usually meme words that I know from Sup Forums, so I can use the Japanese.
Austin Sanchez
A lot of jap porn comics are funny as fuk
Jackson Lewis
You're literally doing exactly the same thing 50-70% of the "translators" in the scanlation scene do. Learn basic grammar rules and you're good enough for your shonen and hentai shit.
Luke Kelly
You know nipponese user?
Austin Thomas
can't tell much from 3 lines but your english seems good. if you really doubt it please please please find someone to proofread, do a search for Go-Toubun no Hanayome in the archives for the results of and reactions to translators with poor english
Luke Edwards
Yeah but it's anime.
Connor Garcia
What comes out of Google Translate may be completely different or the opposite of what is actually meant. Just learn some more Japanese.
Whichever language would've been chosen, someone would have still come out and call it a meme language.
Gabriel Price
Where do you find editors? Is putting a credit page with the announcement good enough?
Ethan King
I found mine on Sup Forums in a thread for what I was translating.
Grayson Gonzalez
Yeah but golang is actually shit.
Carson Murphy
Editors as in proofreaders or cleaners/redrawers
Eli Moore
Why didn't people tell me debinding manga with a microwave was so much easier than the hairdryer technique?
Brayden Nelson
It's easier but you have a higher chance of fucking things up since you have less control over it. Try microwaving glossy paper and see what happens.
Angel Robinson
No one will fall for that user.
Nathan Campbell
The only time I did was with an iron and that was pretty easy so dunno.
Caleb Adams
you'll love it until you catch one on fire
Owen King
What did Yotsuba see?
Kevin Adams
I should get off my ass and finish volume 2 before potato finally expires.
Ayden Rogers
Different paper would be a no-go obviously, but normal paper seems to work just fine. However, I didn't just put it at full power and leave it for a few minutes, but rather used a lower setting in intervals so it doesn't get too hot/have a damp-ish feeling.
Can that happen?
Julian Collins
I use a professional heat gun. It's much quicker because I can manually set the perfect temperature for different paper types. It doesn't overheat, so I can debind doujin for hours. I also use it for defrosting pipes in the winter and making my own audio cables. It's a very useful tool to have.
William Fisher
This, so much this. Then again native eops have just as much of shittaste. I think fellow but foreign esls are the best audience.
Joseph Hernandez
user exposing his penis to her.
Lincoln Lewis
No, seriously, am I the only one who just irons the side of a volume through a cloth to debind it?
Jack Myers
you sound like you're being careful enough but yes, be especially watchful for stray staples
Colton Ward
>2018 >Yotsuba
Eli Anderson
...
William Price
I've heard of that, but how are the results? Is it quick?
Colton Smith
Well I have nothing to compare to, but it took me about a minute.
Grayson Morris
Doesn't the steam deform the pages?
Nicholas Murphy
>Not exposing your penis to Yotsuba
Faggot
Connor Fisher
Didn't really have a problem with that, maybe mine doesn't produce much steam. The only issue was that the glue itself is very annoying.
Dominic Collins
You use the "no steam" setting and don't fill your iron's water tank.
Connor Martinez
That's what I do.
Alexander Rivera
Draw them yourself.
Charles King
At what point is it easier to just erase the entire background of the panel and draw your own from the start?
Elijah Nguyen
That pattern is so common that you can probably just copy it from another panel in the same chapter.
Matthew Cook
caf caf, motherfucker
Jace Turner
Unfortunately, on every other panel in the entire volume with darkened textboxes the texcture is closer to this.
Brandon Fisher
Tried that, there isn't enough material to get it to look decent. Even clone stamping ends up looking trash because of how the background is laid out.
You can't match it, the patterns are flat-out different.
...the fuck? Hadn't even occurred to me the image would be out there, thanks.
Chase Ramirez
Thanks again user, this is miles better than anything I'd have managed.
William Ward
It looks good. You're welcome user.
Austin Cox
These threads have been a great help for me. Over half done now.
Henry Bennett
It was basically me who helped you during the past week with the png compression, the jpeg artifacts and all other things.
Liam Thompson
thanks a fuckton mate. I really appreciate it.
Robert Barnes
A bit related, but with the current CPU bugs floating around which enables the user to read uncached memory, wouldn't this give us the opportunity to read the decryption keys for all Desktop reader programs? Bookwalker, EBJ, etc. for example. Gotta find someone who's into this kind of stuff.
James Morris
Meltdown is already patched, Spectre is too much of a bitch to exploit in most cases and it's getting patched.
The real issue with the bugs wasn't the security hole, it was the performance hit it takes to close them anyways.
Owen Turner
It's not like every user has installed the patches already. Guess it was just wishful thinking on my part.
Dominic Turner
There are already many tools to read another program's memory, that's how game trainers and such work. The OS lets you do it if you specifically want this. The problem with the bugs is that even JS code in a browser can do it, which is totally unsanctioned and a glaring security hole.
Anthony Campbell
No.
These bugs are only helpful when you want to read memory of a privileged kernel process from an unprivileged one.
EBJ/Bookwalker desktop readers don't run in privileged space, nor do the browsers. Peering inside them is as easy as opening an x86 debugger, their whole memory is available (of course debugging browsers is pointless because you can just debug the JS code itself). Even if they were kernel mode, you'd just have to use a kernel mode debugger like Windbg.
Reversing desktop readers and JS browser ones is way easier than finding such bug or making use of it. Seriously, any JS code monkey could defeat the browser ones if they put enough effort into it. EBJ's desktop reader wasn't obfuscated last time I checked so you'd need someone who knows how to use IDA more or less. Now Bookwalker employs some .NET packers but they aren't that difficult either.
Basically, these bugs don't help defeating any DRM on PC because PCs are generally an open platform where you have access to whole memory space without needing to exploit anything.
Gabriel Cruz
So the only way, as usual, is reversing the key generation? That sucks. No wonder people keep these rippers private.
Angel Robinson
You beat your meat with one hand and operate the scanning machine with the other
Jonathan Young
D E L E T E
Jack Ortiz
The book keys aren't generated, they are stored in the internal database, possibly encrypted with another key derived from your PC configuration (I guess you could call that second key generated).
Even if you could magically read decryption keys from reader processes you would still need to reverse the encryption scheme, and how images are extracted from book archives. Without knowing whether it's AES, RC4 or whatever, the key would be fucking useless.
Adam Lee
I wouldn’t mind being a proofreader. I have degrees in literature and philosophy. Currently, I work as a “journalist,” but most of my work these days involve writing for social media products.
Carter Harris
That sounds like a pain. Not really impossible but rather time consuming.
Alexander Hernandez
As a raw uploader I don't give a fuck. It's nice if they gave me a credit but I'm doing it because I want those staffs to being translated.
Kayden Bailey
Whatever these readers employ isn't even half decent DRM in terms of complexity in my opinion. I'd estimate a week's worth of work at least and month's at most to develop a solution. Reversing is time consuming, but people in the know generally enjoy it.
Leo Jackson
Too bad they're reluctant about sharing the solutions.
Asher Johnson
The problem is they kept changing that shit. That's what killed the BW ripper.
Jayden Rogers
Bookwalker is tricky because these faggots are always on the lookout. The main reason people don't like to share because it's more work to keep up to date with them every time they change something to fuck with you.
Benjamin Foster
There is a BW ripper, though. Complete EPUB rips and all. It's just kept secret because of the reason you mentioned.
Indeed. But it's been quite a while since BW did a completely mandatory update. I'm still using version 1.2.6 of their Desktop tool which is definitely over a year old by now.
