Actually, they're too realistic. Consider that Japan recently tried giving free daycare to get working women to consider having children in an attempt to bring up the birth rates, but that didn't work. There's been an epidemic of women in first world countries putting off having children into their 30's to focus on their careers, at which point they're coming closer to becoming infertile, and rational-minded men don't want to marry infertile old hags that can't give them children, so now you have a bunch of cakes.
But of course, this all shouldn't matter as long as you realize 2D is superior to 3D.

Free daycare doesn't cut it, not in their economy. The cost of living is so fucking high in much of japan that for most people, you're close to your 40s by the time having a kid would let you afford having a kid. Salaries have been stagnating like in many other countries for a long time, and they were making up for it by abusing that "you should work longer than everyone else especially your boss" mentality they'd fostered in them for centuries.

You're putting the blame on the wrong thing. The high cost of living is a symptom, not a cause. Cost of living is relative, and the reason why it's high is because of low salaries, like you pointed out, but you're not considering why - it's not salaries, but the value of labor. When you have a large labor pool, each individual's labor is worth less, leading to them being paid less. When you have women entering into the workforce in large numbers, rather than marry early and become housewives/mothers, it dilutes the labor pool and drives salaries down - take women out of the workforce and salaries will almost double, I can guarantee you it will. The 1950's are hailed as this great time where a man could support a family on his own income - a man could do that because the vast majority of women weren't trying to get careers, and thus, you had the baby boom. Take women out of the workforce and make them dependent on men again, and the cake problem and low birthrate problem will eliminate itself.
