True, there's no such thing. Now please kill yourself.

Oldboy only has manga original.
And it blows so fucking hard that being better is pretty easy.

Oldboy's twist was so fucking predictable. It had to have been more subtle in the manga. Either way it's a shit movie.

The ending is different in the manga.
And it's the most retarded thing I've ever witnessed. I'm dead serious.

The only good thing about it was the fight sequence in the corridor.

Ahem...

...

What happens in the manga?

the manga's villain, Kakinuma, was embarrassed by the hero, Gotou, as a kid. They were both weird losers and outsiders, and technically so was their teacher, and Kakinuma hated that Gotou seemed to take pity on him. Then Gotou became a mediocre nobody and Kakinuma became super rich in the bubble economy. The core of the revenge was that Kakinuma never stopped thinking about Gotou and how he was actually sympathetic toward him; this bothered Kakinuma because he'd gotten where he was by being confident that he was better than everyone. Gotou represented the one emotional weakness Kakinuma had and it bothered him endlessly so he set out to inflict that same thing on Gotou.

The real core of it was that feeling you get, and everyone does, where you remember some random moment you were embarrassed, usually as a kid, and for some reason just never forgot. And when you really stop to think about it, or ever bring it up with anyone who was there, no one else actually remembers or cares, because of course they wouldn't. It's taking that feeling and turning into a core drive. The entire manga ends with Gotou having a nightmare that Kakinuma hypnotized his girlfriend into killing herself given a certain trigger, even after Kakinuma had killed himself. The revenge was never Gotou's it was all Kakinuma's, like Oh Daesu and Woo Jin in the movie; the revenge in this case, rather than incest, being that Gotou would have to live the rest of his life with the idea in the back of his head that Kakinuma's elaborate plan might still have one last contingency in store.

and are just retarded knuckledragging illiterates

That sounds quite interesting.

That movie wasn't that interesting.

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance > Oldboy > Lady Vengeance, but the difference is slight.

This, plus it was analyzing how in East Asian culture, the concept of saving face is held in very high regard. Kakinuma took this shit to the extreme and became obsessed by how in that one moment Gotou humiliated him and caused him to completely lose face.

Park Chan Wook's adaptation took the same concept of losing face and presented in a way that a global audience could understand: Woo-jin discovered to have an incestuous relationship with his sister Soo-ah, leading to her killing herself out of shame, and Woo-jin seeking revenge on Oh Dae-su for inadvertently humiliating and ruining his and his sister's lives.

what do you consider a good movie?

Shoutout to The Handmaiden

how was he humiliated?

I liked sympathy for mr. vengeance a lot more than oldboy, but oldboy did have some amazing fight scenes.

why did i read that whole thing
