What are you working on this weekend, Sup Forums?
Scanlation thread
Porn
Absolutely nothing
Is it me or did the whole haruka-yumenoato situation actually do some good? Now a full-blown commercial piracy site mangamura has emerged and they upload a fuckton of raws, as much as haruka uploaders if not more.
>commercial piracy site
What? So they grab pub raws and sell it?
Don't they watermark their raws though?
Kek.
Waiting for the 20th.
I think they upload their own
Shit, now that I looked closer there's a small watermark on some pages. Raws on other sites have it too so I guess this site is the original source and everything is contaminated now
I'm trying to get a central repository of raws going. So we can have automatic scanlations.
dohoho.org
The more the better for the machine learning portion of it. I'm working on that part right now.
>automatic scanlations
Fucking no thank you.
Can I just scanlate 5-10 manga volumes each month and get paid 1000-2000$? Lost my job so I have plenty of time to scanlate now but if I can't pay the bills then it's pointless. I could make a patreon and have raffles for patrons, if you win, you get to pick 1 volume and I'll TL it. Or make a website and take donations. Or find another job and do this as a hobby,
I'm sure that we're not that far from someone making an AI that can clean, typeset and translate at a good enough level that you'd probably won't notice it wasn't a human doing it.
>get paid 1000-2000$
Wew, no way. Maybe if you start drawing furry porn.
You forgot to mention your sick mother that you need to take care of.
Automatic scanlations are a mistake.
Having said that, using a GAN to transform grey, poorly scanned raws into properly cleaned and leveled raws is a venture worth looking into.
Only you would have to find fools willing to donate thousands of high quality cleaned pages (with text remaining), and their corresponding untouched raws.
Nobody wants your shitty translations
Those numbers aren't possible with donations nor commissions and if you somehow get them with patreon they'll take down your account (Just like they did with Tsumino's)
try 100-200$, and that's if you get lucky
I don't think even hentai commissions pay that much.
If he charged 20$ per chapter, he would need to work on 50 chapters a month to make 1k$. I don't think people will want to commission a nobody 50 chapters right off the bat.
I don't think a single person can dump 50 chapters in one month, the cleaning alone would make me want to kill myself.
Forgot his name, the guy who put that my mom is sick, I have to help her etc. note on every one of his releases? I hate it when translators put retarded/unnecessary notes everywhere.
That's a bummer, guess this might not work.
I wouldn't mind doing a chapter/some pages first and getting paid after the client checks them but yeah I need to have something to show so people can see what they're getting.
Well if 50ch = 1000-1500p then sure I can clean and translate it in a month. IF I get paid 2k by doing it, hell no otherwise. I would treat this like a job so that means I will work to get that $. 1000p a month for 2k sounds fair to me. Cleaning is fucking boring but if it's my job and I'm getting paid then I ain't complaining.
Obviously I would need to have at least 5-10 volumes translated before I start so people can see what they're getting but I'm just asking if being a full-time scanlator is a good idea before I spend a shit ton of time on TLing 5-10 volumes when I could be searching for jobs or doing some other shit instead.
Why don't you just apply to fakku or any other hentai publishing company in burgerland?
you'd want something with an addictive drip feed like that trash goggles and kooky one by the watamote author or that tomboy shit by that rape fetishist, or that mind reader one, they're like crack if you get too hooked, have some sort of bloghost reader site put the 1 page a day chapter thing have easy donation boxes give like a 1 week advance for subscribers and donators, advertise that you take commissions maybe some sort of intro description or sob story.
An actual job, even a McJob, will pay more. You're retarded for trying to profit off of scanlation, but in the meantime just develop your skills so that people will actually want to pay for whatever garbage you're putting out. Are you a teenager?
I bought a drawing tablet recently so I could do redraws and some other stuff more easily, but I've been having so much fun drawing that I stopped scanlating.
Yeah, and now all the raws I’ve been downloading have watermarks. It’s such a fucking eyesore.
dealing with this
I would rather TL manga I enjoy, I don't mind TLing hentai or working for others but does Fakku, etc. let you choose what you TL? If yes then that's an option, I was under the impression that you don't really have much choice in what you TL but maybe I'm wrong.
If you call making less than a dude who works at McDonalds profit then sure I'm doing this for profit you idiot. 1000-2000$ a month is enough for me to live and I want to TL manga because I want others to read the stuff I like so they can enjoy it too, this is more about passion than money, but since scanlating 5-10 volumes each month takes a lot of time, I can't TL that much unless I get paid since I have to pay for food and bills and if I don't "profit" from this then obviously I'll either starve or get kicked from my apartment because I didn't have the cash to pay the rent. Did you understand all that? Might have been a bit complicated for you, I apologize. As for the output I'll do my best, if it turns out to be shit then I'll either try to improve or give up. I'm 12.
I have enough savings for about a year and I'm willing to try this for 2-3 months without getting paid but If it looks like it won't work then I'll just give up and find another job.
>let you choose what you TL?
Of course not. But it's the same with commission, you literally can't do 1-2k$/mo if you're being picky.
if you want to make real translation money then you're looking at technical document translation.
I'm scanning Shin Mazinger Zero, so if anyone's reading that, it might be updated soon.
if you do translate something could you consider a volume of this series?
My total profit from 2 years of TLing stuff I enjoy: $0.00
>not including the (you)s
And my total profit is down several dozen dollars for raws.

So how would people contact you out of thread for a quote. Have an old series that dark horse won't publish
Yeah true, was hoping I could do some 1-2 raffles in patreon each month as a form of incentive to be a patron + chance to get a volume while supporting me but if they shut it down then it's no good. Biggest one I've found so far is Hatigarm at 492$/mo, according to MU they release one chapter about every 1.5 days so 15 chapters a month. Of course even if I did release 45 chapters a month it doesn't mean I would automatically get 1500$ and it took them some 6 months to get to that much. They've been at it for 1 year and Patreon seems cool with it, guess because it's only 492$ and/or because they TL Korean stuff.
Damn last TL 3 years ago? Sure, I have space/time for it and Umishi is alright. Guess I might as well pick the last 3 volumes that are left, no one isn't going to TL the last 2 anyway if I pick just 1.
I guess I forgot to mention but I would rather not work on licensed stuff but DH has the license and won't publish it? Why?
[email protected]
Temp email, disappears in 1h. Not saying I'll work on it but I'm curious on what is it.
do you want the raws? there's a link to a pastebin in the mangadex comments for umishi, need to get around to uploading the other translated volumes soon...
Exact same thing happened to me, except that I prefer paper drawing now. I haven't been in the mood for translating in months although I have projects unfinished.
Found the pastebin, thanks for pointing it out.
If email doesn't reach you it was Vulgar ghost daydeam.
Scanlators pre had done to volume 9
Was checking what they have licensed and was about to ask if this is it but damn, says DH dropped it at MU. Misaki's fucking hot too, goddamn this is basically a crime. Now I said I would rather not TL licensed stuff and I'm not changing my mind, but if some user suddenly TLs and uploads this that has nothing to do with me right. Might take a while but I wouldn't know.
>finish redrawing
>everything looks fine
>notice that when you zoom out on the page some inconsistencies in the patterns are visible
>waste time fixing it even though 99.9% of people won't even notice or care
Why does my autism always flare up when editing
Masochist
>author posts a finished page on their twitter
>it's the original digital artwork in good resolution
>has a link to the ebook in the body of the tweet
>the ebook is a mangled lowres mess
Jesus fucking Christ, why? Why do they peddle that garbage when the good shit is right there?
You're missing the point. Just because you don't notice it wasn't done by a human doesn't mean it's ok to allow 'good enough' works to be released. If anything, this lowering of the barrier would be making things worse because it becomes even easier to just release more of the works that are just 'good enough'.
Go move to some asian 3rd world shit hole. Then it'll be viable. There's a reason why a lot of these internet beggars are SEAfags. 1 USD is worth a hell lot more in their local currency.
Or just find a proper job, you dame dame ningen.
This. There's another reason why anime/manag TLs, even official ones, tend to be mediocre. Those who actually are fluent can get paid more working corporate.
The worst thing is when they go as far as lowering it to x1200 and even saving it at shitty JPEG settings.
what this guy said What an inane idea you had. Of course that wouldn't work. Ger a new job.
I should do this, at least it's easy to translate
Trying to crack Comic Gum.
Well, good luck mate.
What's there to crack? Just rip the canvas and make a macro take a screenshot of every page. Or just literally copy paste their descrambling function in a node program and get an image library to reassemble them.
If it were that easy to find their descrambler in a over 600 lines long mess of a code, everyone would do it.
Especially since the scrambler changes for the pictures midway.
Whoa dude so hard to find the function. 2 minutes later.
pastebin.com
Just breakpoint and figure out the inputs. Just download a canvas library for node or something or make a local file to render the canvas to avoid tainted canvas bullshit.
I found that already, what I'm trying to do is to find their original source (if it's even accessible without authentication) so I don't have to bother with that. Like Nico or C-W have for example.
Source as in not scrambled images, if that wasn't clear.
So much for trying to "crack" then. They only serve scrambled images from their cdn. You'd have to actually hack into their servers or something if you want to get the original files unless they are grossly incompetent.
Trying to think up a clever one-liner that's going to accompany the next chapter I release.
are the images scrambled to a specific set of dimensions? could you use some sort of edge pixel analysis to match them?
Blame publishers man. If you ask politely, they might send you the raw PSDs without any text (though this is obviously more likely with lesser-known artists, but it's happened a few times).
Because, fact of the matter is, most of the consumers don't care as much about quality and happy to read off their tiny phone screen. Why waste more resources on HQ pics if most don't give a shit.
This. Sad truth tho.
I always thought saving for web is a meme perpetuated by shit scanlators like Mangastream and Casanova.
I made reedits of the BLAME! Master editions by myself. This was before the fixed blacks was rereleased by the -empire comic rippers.
Saved my cleans on the (black & white or greyscale) comic book pages as Greyscale PNG. So the end result is a 396 page BLAME! manga at 760 Mb!!
Then a week after I was able to upgrade my computer for work related reasons, and reviewed my digital hoard. I had free time so I looked up insidescanlation and copied their actions on black and white pages. I managed to make the 396 pages 760Mb to 396 pages 450 Mb!!
The downside is that the new edit looks jagged to shitty low raw tablets. I'll just buy new portable viewers.
Thanks Scanlation thread.
Thanks
for

.
So that's where the god damn bunny is from.
>I always thought saving for web is a meme
Wew lad.
Stay alive depression bread
Not as much as I thought I would because I made the mistake of stepping outside and shit happened.
I won't do that again.
>Implying they'll hire just anybody
They hired daiz.
Are you bald and almost killed anime?
How does the descrambler change? Does it download a new script? Do images stay the same or do they get scrambled dynamically?
Fuck, so that's why the raws have been so shit the past couple of weeks.
Is there really no alternative for moire on color page scans other than playing with noise median + blur + unsharp mask?
>Reas ch 1 of some series someone's ripped/that's free to read on the publisher's site
>Fuck yeah this is worth translating
>No further pirated raws available despite a volume or two being out already
Every god damn time, why don't Nips upload shit?
Anybody could help me recognize this font?
Wahroonga
Thanks, how about?
Here's a tip, clean out the image of anythin not either text or white background, scale it up so that capital letters are 100 pixels high then put it through a font finding engine, it helps if you have 8 or more letters to work with
That's my last resort, I know these fonts are kind of common because I've seen them on several mangas so I first try asking here when there's a thread up. Thanks for the tip and previous anwers anyway.
I wasn't the guy who answered before just shared the advice
doesn't always work though
Akbar width 80%
What series is that? The same as the deleted image a few hours ago?
>the deleted image a few hours ago
No idea what you are talking about, but this one is Mousou.
Oh okay then.
oddly enough I've not found a font identifier that recognises Akbar yet. I wonder why? it's a pretty popular font.
