FKMT thread to celebrate Tonegawa spinoff getting animated. I know I'm probably late to the party.
Been reading Akagi recently and I can't fucking believe the moment at which the anime ended is 1/3 of the whole thing, what the shit
>watch Fukumoto MAD youtu.be
>it's cute, I like it
>suddenly, 1:20
It's not like they had a better place to stop, Washizu mahjong ended last year.
I'm not blaming Madhouse, I was just dead certain it's gonna be a halfpoint and the slow pace can be blamed on monthly releases
People have mixed opinions over this, but I personally think that the manga only gets better after the point where the anime ends. But that's just my opinion, there are other people I've seen that think the opposite. Whatever your opinion, it's still something that's worth seeing through to the end. Also, after you finish Akagi, make sure to read Ten. It is a story which takes place years after Akagi, and features some great characters.
Pretty sure Akagi only gets better with time, except for the last SOL arc.
Tonegawa getting anime feels so weird. Am I the only one?
It's a fun series. You see that Tonegawa is beset by his own hardships, but also how god damn good he is at bullshitting. The guy's a really good boss overall.
Do you mean the handholding or the part that comes after that?
It's an understandable but still pretty strange choice. Guess nips really like tonegawa.
This part
>there'll never be a cute SOL spinoff filled with mahjong shenanigans starring everyone from Ten
I'm still amazed that Tonegawa is getting animated, when the manga was announced I ignored because FKMT himself wasn't drawing it, and it seemed more like a short spin-off. Is it actually good? Anyways, with this and the Akagi live action continuing I hope that we'll be getting more anime FKMT, Kaiji S3 would be great (though maybe they don't want to end in a cliffhanger), and Akagi being finished means they could do it completely (though I don't know how they could do it without it being rushed or too long).
Hopefully they do Ten someday, it would definitely improve, at least the earlier parts with the wonky art. And if they managed to do the final 3 volumes justice, I'd love them forever.
The east-west match is the best you're going to get, unfortunately. Ten anthology never.
Unrelated, but if you have a niconico account watch this nicovideo.jp
It's pretty funny. Hanchou is pretty good too. Fukumoto spinoffs are surprisingly good.
>The east-west match is the best you're going to get
Because Akagi couldn't stay and chill for like 5 minutes fuck you Akagi
All these co-author spin-offs aren't worse than the sillier parts of zero. The only thing there's nothing to read in english, yeah.
I really hope that once Zero comes back it's more in the vein of part 1, that was really good. But then part 2 turned into an extremely convoluted murder mystery and wasn't that fun.
I also really think FKMT should take a big break from Kaiji to get his shit together, part 4 was boring as fuck for Kaiji's standards, and from what I've read of part 5 it's not that good either. I miss the times of part 1 and 2 where the plot was more than one big game, now it feels like the only big developments happen at the very beginning and the very end.
>more in the vein of part 1
I hope you're not talking about the math, but otherwise you're right. Part 5 isn't bad, it's just that it just keeps dragging out the tension until it breaks and no one gives a shit anymore, unlike 1 and 2 where everything went a lot faster and more games could be fitted in.
I liked Zero part 2 more than part 1. It was silly, but heartwarming.
>that "our lives are bliss" part
What was bad about the math? It was simple, but it added something that made the series unique compared to Kaiji and Akagi's strategies. I liked that it had a lot of variety and much faster pacing, instead of staying on the same game for volumes upon volumes, which is fine too, but it gets tiring.
I don't think part 5 is bad, it's just not as good as the first three.
You better stop trying to hope for free fun here.
So far every single bit of shonen-like manga FKMT wrote was a bait. It always ends in some sort of serious stuff also known as old man moralfagging. I say that like a good thing by the way. So, I don't see him trying to write entertaining at all. What I see is him trying to get to these young brains to tell them to get good because for some reason he cares about it more than bigger sells. Could be wrong of course.
New Kurosawa is fun at the expense of old man moralfagging. Even the last chapters of Akagi are that
>I don't see him trying to write entertaining at all
I disagree. The later rounds of Akagi and Washizu's match were clearly supposed to be entertaining, especially when Washizu went to hell. There's no reason he can't do both at the same time, look at Kurosawa.
Kurosawa? He'll go Inuyashiki route god damn it that is guaranteed but I want him to be happy
I'm jelly you are about to read that.
>every single FKMT MAD is gold
>there's only a handful of them and I watched them all a dozen times
They are mostly directly post-Akagi anime.
>you'll never know akagi's hawaii adventures
feels bad man
What is the currently ongoing part of Kaiji even about?
There's no currently ongoing Kaiji.
Apparently, getting away to Somewhere with all the cash he just made. That's all I've seen so far.
no puran da
Didn't something new start last september or so?
That was golf if I remember correctly. Please no more golf.
It seems you are right, at least Wikipedia says:
>Tobaku Datenroku Kaiji: 24 Oku-hen(Gambling Advent Chronicle Kaiji - 2.4 Billion Escape Arc, 2017–present) (賭博堕天録カイジ 24億脱出編) is currently published in Japan.
Though there's no source, and I can't find a lot of information.
>I can't find a lot of information.
Besides raws anons post every other weekly thread?
I don't usually check these threads.
Well there's nothing much happening. One two sentences for the whole chapters, only pictures of them running around.
I hope Kaiji s3 includes part 4 too and they just rush through it, cause it's shit anyway
You don't believe in friendship, user? Although I have to admit, Kaiji s3 has never looked less "never ever"...
I hope they'll adapt Kurosawa instead
I like the idea of it but it just goes on so long and it's the same thing over and over, I don't understand how anyone thought it was a good idea to make the entire arc about it.
Speaking of which people would eat up Zero so nicely it could become the new JoJo/Titans. Better read that while it's acceptable to discuss it.
>One two sentences for the whole chapters
What in the world? Are these chapters just 1 page each?
yeah except part 3 never and anime never oops :^)
Now with Akagi also probably being a trilogy, yup.
I'm really curious to see what he's gonna do with Akagi now. Slightly anxious too, it's so good like it is now I don't want anything to ruin it.
Reading Kaiji after watching it, brainlet mahjong was fun
Kazuya's plot also started good but rigging the game to make the belt stuck was pretty cheap, I hated Bog arc for this. Stop fucking with the mechanisms
I haven't finished it yet but those three will make it I guess
Why is there an Ohtsuki spinoff?
Certain status things can't be retconned so I'm sure we are in for at least one hugely fucking tragic death. Just as the new thing is announced and rolls in, we could begin this nice little game of counting death flags for all the people dear to poor Akagi. Btw Osamu already got at least two just for being relevant.
Why not?
Welcome to the FKMT hell
post the mahjong guide
>thanks to Instagram shitters food manga is insanely hot right now
>old men demographic of the journals, so the old man protag
>that one particular assistant, FKMT and a journal editor resided to grab him just because
>maybe redemption fetish

I just learned from Yakuza 2 to be honest
Yeah I guess FKMTkrazy did it better
Thanks. Wanted to refresh for reading Ten.

Does anyone have the screenshot from S2 where they showed IRL FKMT or something and said Hirayama Yukio was the most moe character?
/end
>Tonegawa spinoff getting animated
HOLY SHIT! I must be late too because I just found out now. I've been DYING for another season of Kaiji since I watched S2 as it was airing (a truly grueling experience) and at this point I'll gladly take a spinoff, as it certainly couldn't hurt chances of an S3.
Play on gamedesign.jp
By the way, the Ten translation is usually alright but they mistranslated "mentanpin" (= closed hand with no terminal/honors and only sequences, aka MENzen, TANyao, PINfu), as Menzen Tsumo (closed hand where you draw your winning tile yourself).
So if you see someone ron someone else and yet call "Menzen Tsumo", it's just a mistake for Pinfu Tanyao and closed hand
This?
Yes that's the one. Which episode is it from again?
Reminder that 226 is the last chapter of One poker that doesn't have any shouting or crying in it.
ざわ…
Can anyone explain to me what Akagi is thinking?
the power of coincidence
...
>When the zawas become a tribal-like chant in the soundtrack
It's actually pretty straight-forward most of the time
Man, I remember watching the Yagi match before and after learning mahjong
>Before
Huh, he went for an open hand? That's ballsy. Wonder why he did that.
>After
Oh shit, a suu an kou tenpai, that's fucking amaz-
>Riichi
What the fuck are you doing
>Open
WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING
>suu ankou tenpai open
That's Urabe.
Ah, fuck, messed up the names. That's what I get for posting past bedtime. But yeah, adult-Akagi-replacing-fake-Akagi-for-yakuza match
The fact that S2 OST uses Zawas much more agressively is why I'll always hold it dear in my heart
Both seasons made good use of them though.
youtube.com
But yeah, I'd probably give it to S2 ever so slightly because of that Zawa usage in the soundtrack.
I deadass thought that zawas in S1 were not mixed into the soundtrack, just played separately in the background when I first watched it. In S2 it was much more obvious
...
>this is fine
god i love akagi
It's at the beginning of 22, after the OP.
>99k point difference between him and Washizu
>"Nah, I feel I can still win"
I love this smug cunt so much
I love him
>i'm not gonna get killed by a hand as weak as a dealer double yakuman, washizu
the madman
I am too much of a brainlet for the witch's curse math. I had no idea what was going on.
>Every fucking day. Every single fucking day when i come home this little faggot just sits there and gives me this stupid look on his face.
I thought I was the only one. That part just seemed so much harder than the other math questions.
This is a brainlet question but can someone explain furiten to me? Like if you have a 1-2-3 pin and you draw a 2 pin and then discard it, you can't use the 1-2-3 pin anymore because of the 2 pin right.
No, it's only about your winning tiles. If you discard a tile that you could have won with, you cannot ron anyone.
If your final wait is 23 (waiting on 1 4) and you discarded a 1 or a 4 earlier, you can't ron on both 1 and 4.
It applies to all kinds of waits. If you have a double pair wait (eg 11 and 55) and you discarded a 1 earlier, you can't ron on both.
That clears it up, thank you
Don't forget to look at the discards that were pon'd/kan'd/chi'd.
Just caught up to the most recent chapter of Kaiji. Kazuya's a little piece of shit.
...
I recently talked with a japanese user and he seemed pretty sure about Kaiji S3. though in scared of the idea of madhouse screwing up and taniuchi off the games
Why is the Tonegawa speech so popular compared to every other one?
I'm a brainlet who hardly understood Akagi's speeches.
>check out Tonegawa manga because of announcement
HOLY SHIT, this is fucking hilarious. With the right direction and music, this has a good chance of being a great comedy anime that doesn't rely on typical Japanese manzai shit.
Kazuya is a good boy.
It's usually pretty straight-forward, the parts I didn't really get were in Ten but I think it's because the translation was a bit off
Because no one knows what Akagi is saying
