Hayao Miyazaki

So why does he hate otaku culture? If there wasn't for otakus, he wouldn't be known or rich.

This is Miyazaki Tsutomu, newfag. He died for his sins, RIP.

isn't that the opposite? his movies have more mainstream appeals overseas, to families with younger children, and normal adult audiences. otakus would still probably watch his films, but it's otherwise a different culture

Why wouldn’t he? They’re obsessive degenerates.

>You see, whether you can draw like this or not, being able to think up this kind of design, it depends on whether or not you can say to yourself, ‘Oh, yeah, girls like this exist in real life. If you don’t spend time watching real people, you can’t do this, because you’ve never seen it. Some people spend their lives interested only in themselves. Almost all Japanese animation is produced with hardly any basis taken from observing real people, you know. It’s produced by humans who can’t stand looking at other humans. And that’s why the industry is full of otaku!.

This is what he said, interpret it as you will.

theres a huge difference between a person who loves anime and an OTAKU

You know your medium is dead when the most important representative figure in it calls it a mistake...

This, although you might be able to argue that otaku culture's internet fame helped spur the growth of anime and by proxy Miyazaki's fame.

otaku popularized anime first

Maybe he doesn't want to be known or rich.
Maybe he was around long before otaku even existed.
Maybe he simply likes entertainment as being old fashioned like he grew up with.

> he wouldn't be known or rich
Not really, Miyazaki movies aren't considered otaku movies despite being anime. Along with stuff like Sazae-San and Doraemon they are as mainstream as anime can get. Ghibli is pretty much the jap equivalent of disney.

maybe
maybe not

He just hates self absorved manchildren that use anime as an escape fantasy and never learn anything. He basicaly saying to people go outsite and experience the real wolrd

He is friends with Anno, THE otaku. But Anno shares his view on otaku, so its cool

>Ghibli is pretty much the jap equivalent of disney.
Why people keep saying this? They don't have nothing in common

>If there wasn't for otakus, he wouldn't be known or rich.
Who do you think watches Hayao Miyazaki movies, exactly?

>experience the real world
>make fantasy
isn't he contributing to their escapism?

>Ghibli is pretty much the jap equivalent of disney.
No, Toei Doga is. Ghibli is just a very succesful production studio created for two geniuses to work with as much expertise and freedom as possible, following the standards they worked in (TopCraft studio) and superating them, while staying author-based.

Disney driven by the authorship of the producer, but not in the same way in the slighest.

The Wind Rises and the movie he's working in seem to go in ways opposite to fantasy.

Imagine opening a restaurant, but your only customers are crack addicts, rapists etc.

restaurant gets famous either way

>Miyazaki can't even relate to his own gender
>accuses other anime creators of not being able to relate to people
Pot, meet kettle.

well, these two business branches are not comparable

Let me rephrase myself, Miyazaki is frustrated because many new animators are otaku that only experience is coping from other anime and not taking inspiration from the real world
