Elitism in scanlation is so stupid. Kill yourself, OP.

Yes, because compressing a 200 MB magazine rip (which doesn't look that good to begin with, depending on the magazine) down to 50 MB and reducing the resolution by half, and then even watermarking it is a good thing?

Way to twist my words into something completely retarded. Mangamura is shit, everyone knows that. OP is just jerking himself off because he gets private raws for generic moe slice of life shit #27895. Meanwhile there are plenty of good scanlators that use high quality public raws.

Well, I guess I completely misinterpreted your post. Sorry about that.

>he gets private raws

You know that anyone can buy raws, right? It's not some sekrit club. Even ebooks are better than the garbage that's out now. If you're part of a group that cares about putting out good releases, and you're not even willing to spend $5 on the book so that your release doesn't cause eye cancer, you should reconsider your life.

I hope Mangamura crashes soon now that everyone in Japan is butthurt about it and it's making news, but technically reading raws online isn't illegal, just downloading them is.

>you should reconsider your life
Comments like these are always hilarious coming from a scanlator.

So I'm guessing Jap raw uploaders flocked to Mangamura out of laziness and disregard for quality and then MM just downscales and watermarks everything before putting it on the reader, which is then ripped by raw site bots?

The damage is done. All those horrendous manga scans and magazine scans are all over the Internet, and I never seen these raw bot sites update with something that isn't dogshit quality after they uploaded the drek.

How hard is it to make a raw sharing forum that isn't dogshit, goddamn. JCafe is still up even though that place is a ghost town nowadays.

The problem is the existence of mangamura and their shit 30 MB JPG 700x1000 scans ripped from source material that was 120-180 MB.

A part of me thinks this is all deliberate to make people buy ebooks and the physical scans.

The site does not exist to give scanlators raws to translate with. It's so Japanese people who couldn't care less about size or watermarks can just read them.

What's the deal with Mangamura anyways? Who owns it? Where is the server located? Why isnt is being cracked down upon?

Outside of Japan, that's all that matters.

>technically
Technically reading/streaming is downloading, because your browser download the images and put them into a temporary folder to show them to you.

Yeah, but that's not how the law works. Same reason you aren't arrested if you accidentally see CP that's unknowingly saved in your cache.

Word of advice: Never do joints with people that are into patreon and that kind of shit.

Thank you common sense.

I'm not into scanlation, but out of curiosity is there a list of how every japanese onomatopoeia is translated?

I just scanlate niche hentais as usual. Horrified comments fuel me more than anything

>year of our lord MMXVIII
>still can't distort text without either rasterizing the layer or going through smart objects
>still can't center text vertically
>still can't define multiple layer masks on the same layer
Explain

thejadednetwork.com/sfx/

Small text outside bubbles is actually one of the harder things to translate, because sometimes they're not strictly onomatopoeia and instead come from shortening other words, and they're all in kana so you can never search them up, you just have to know the root words.

Neat, thanks.

>tfw never used layer masks
What exactly do you do with them?

Most of the time, it's best to just leave that shit untranslated.

Think of it as an eraser than you change or undo at any given time. They're really useful during redrawing, but you can them for basically everything
I don't really use the eraser anymore nowadays since layer masks are just too comfy, and a result my files usually quickly become a godforsaken sprawling mess of layer masks, which I guess could be considered a problem

How would I go about paying someone/a group to translate something I want?

>learning irrelevant moon hieroglyphics
What a waste of time, tell those fuckers to learn the superior latin based language already.

Try a google search.

I did try that, any other suggestion?

Google search harder. Hint: commission.

Most complete list I've ever found.
track5.mixtape.moe/ywebmb.pdf

>it's in fucking romaji

Most groups only do hentai commissions as taking on a long, ongoing series you don't like for the small amount of commission money isn't really worth it I guess (unless you're some turd-world ESL).

But then again when I used to bother TL'ing I did a few volumes of non-h commissions too, so you could probably find someone willing eventually if you just ask those groups doing commissions at present.

How long do you think it'll be until Mangadex isn't a clusterfuck of random features that barely work on an Ethiopian server?

>tfw vanillafags coming in and complaining about the fetishes they don't like on my release

>not drinking their tears and telling them to piss off

Looking for a spare translator (or a typesetter) for Grappler Baki. Dialogue is rarely more complicated than this sort of thing; we'd ask for maybe a chapter a week.

If you can typeset well, that's just about as useful. We only need one more set of hands, really.

Is there a way to unsharp digital raws downscaled (to x1500 using a very sharp resizing algorithm) by the publisher without fucking everything up? I've tried my hand with lots of trick but I'm not satisfied with my outputs so far.

I need a new non-shit project to pick up, anything good launch recently?

the secret is to get better raws

Sunday just started 4 new series last month

And how exactly would you have one accomplish that

Where do elevens go for pirated raws? I only ever see scans coming out for the biggest mags like SJ, and everything else might have two issues or some shit from years ago available and nothing else.

Surely someone is uploading the stuff somewhere?

You go around knocking on doors

I would buy my shit physically if I had some spare money to buy a good scanner and pay the extra fees to get it shipped. But it's just so much more cheap and convenient to pay €5 and have your tank ready to be cleaned.

For the love of god please translate Gingitsune. It's like 13 volumes in and there's only 11 chapters scanlated or translated at all. I'd even love just text translations that I can read with the raws.

looks kinda yiffy

This looks easy enough. Not sure how I would go about telling my team to start working on basically porn though. I can't really typeset

It isn't really as far as I can tell from the first 11 chapters. It's basically a slice of life about characters that live at a Shinto temple and some of the characters can see the spirits (generally animal spirits) that live there too.

They simply buy 'em, because they're cheap. Plenty of used bookstores everywhere too, and those usually have extensive collections.

Yeah, but where do pirates get them from?

Surely you don't mean not even one fag uploads the shit when they sell thousands and thousands of copies?

Ah, so you want nice stuff for free.

Think of the effort that it would require to properly scan an unpopular, 400 page magazine every single week for years on end.

But what about the chinks? They never pay for shit, where's their raw source?

No shit, so does everyone else here.

I 'unno, ask them if you can.

>want to pick up a series that have been dead for 2 years
>no raws, even in japan and korean sites
>nobody to ask help
>only option is go to nipland and star seeking for old volume´s

There must be some digital raws for like 700 yen per volume.

Rather than greentexting with an image you pulled off Google, you could just say the name and ask for help finding it.

If the user who requested the last chapters of "Sesuji wo Pin! to: Shikakou Kyougi Dance-bu e Youkoso" is here, I translated them and can upload the script. I finished it a while ago but I didn't make my own thread because I'm way too terrified to do that.

Not him but the scanlation thread has to be the most pissy thread on Sup Forums.
>don't ask for specific help
>"well why don't you just ask then you dumb fuck"
>ask for specific help
>"fucking retard, find it yourself"

There is a difference between "Does anyone have raws for this obscure 70s manga" and "How do I use this basic function in Photoshop"

Posting an "woe is me" tale without mentioning the name of the manga is stupid, he clearly wants help but is just being roundabout. It's like when people say, "can I ask you a question?" What am I supposed to say, no? Just ask the question and get it over with.

Please upload a link to them, that way at least the archive will have something to search if the thread 404 before the Sup Forumsnon sees it.

I'm willing to bet your series is incredibly easy to find.

...

Well, what is it?

For whatever reason I really like the series, if your team decides to work on it leave the name here and I'll make sure to donate whatever I can.

I doubt there's any bored typesetters lurking, but we could use some help getting out the next couple of chapters of Killing Bites out. Script and cleans are ready to go. Otherwise we're looking at a pretty sizable delay.

I wish lower case fonts would catch on already. The only reason uppercase were originally used was because comics and manga were printed on garbage quality paper and upper case was easier to distinguish. Also people need to start using these pic already. It's basically perfect for japanese to english translation. Too many awkward sounds that can't be translated effectively can be made a little less awkward. Almost all comic fonts have them anyway.

>comma in the middle of the last line
>not hyphenating oh-so-generous

5/10 get better at lettering

I've been using uppercase since forever and this image makes me feel like something's off, sorry but no, I don't think I'll ever make the switch.

Thanks, I'll make sure to pass that onto whoever typeset the manga

They're still easier to distinguish though. Lower case letters take up more space while being smaller sized, since you have to account for the "tails" at the end of the letters, while upper case has consistent sizing throughout (throw that on top of most manga using skinny ass bubbles makes lower case flat out hard to read at times).

There's literally no benefit to them, which is why modern day comics still use upper case.

What are some good lowercase fonts that don't need 1000 miles of space between the lines to prevent a g and a t from overlapping?

Augie is some ugly shit

I've always wondered, when you break lines with an honorific (like -chan,-san) Does the hyphen hora on the same line le the previous?
>user-
>Kun
Or
>user
>-kun

Hyphens, no matter what word, always go on the first line.

Anyone know any good redrawing guides for beginners?

I hate the idea of just erasing over layed text and just typesetting above it.

>using honorifics

>not using honorifics

>Augie
Are you kidding me?
Mighty Zeo 2.0 is free and decent enough.
Good paid ones I've found are: victory speech lower, comicrazy

Finished chapter 1, but doesn't look like anyone wants to be anywhere near this thing.
If anyone is willing to typeset, I'll provide translation.

That's already been translated though, I remember the one-shot version and the other one have been worked upon.

I don't like sloppy seconds. If I'm gonna work on it then I'll do it from the start

>Isn't this really bad!!!

>my.... entire life

>tfw the most popular series you're scanlating is the one you want to work on the least
I still update it pretty regularly, but not as regularly as the other series I'm working on. Why does my brain work like this?

That's the original one shot tank called "Golden Times". The translation is LH-tier.

fuck off max fischer

I see so many new releases that look like that though. I swear nobody even tries to make their translations flow nicely anymore.

The comma before "jackass" is correct.

Is it me or scanlation in general becoming worse? Shit typeset, not cleaned scans, b/w scans in RGB, saved in jpg, png24 or even in bloated PNG literally everywhere.

there are three translations for early chapters go, ravens, and mangazuki

The ones that did decent ones went legit or just quit.

But it isn't translation (which is also bad btw), all you need to do is to read the fucking manual. It's all basic stuff.

What do you guys do while waiting for pages to scan?
I usually try to knock out a few reps in between pages.

Read a book or manga or Sup Forums or internet in general.

Chink here, groups I've been in have one person get the raw and scans for the different groups. However most just wait for official chink volume release that happens 2-3 month later and scan that instead. Rarely do I see series that do not get a chink release.
