The anime is around where the english scans for the manga are (Chapter 180 out of 279), but they've been skipping chapters and going out of order.

Right now I'm really enjoying watching the anime blind, so I'm going to watch it first then pick up the manga where I left off so I can catch all the chapters and jokes that were missed.

There's a lot of jokes that are cut for copyright reasons probably, mostly namedrop references to video games like Monster Hunter, Pokemon (although one joke made it to the show), Final Fantasy, etc. Shenmue is a recurring joke because in the april fools chapter Kaidou made a lie of them announcing Shenmue III, and then two months later in real life the game actually got announced

Oh so it's actually better? Fuck parody. And I say that as I'm watching Hayate no Gotoku. They're never funny. And anyone can reference something. In fact. I normally don't like shameless pop culture references either, but most of it is shit even most Japanese people wouldn't ever get. Saiko calls Kaidou the baby fucker from Momotaro Densetsu, the day Saiki time leaps back to when his parents meet is the release date of the Sega Saturn, etc.

That being said, I personally think the anime and manga are on equal footing. There are things in the manga that I thought were dumb that killed me in the anime and stuff I was disappointed in the delivery or censorship. I don't see the harm in not rereading or skipping unadapted manga stuff, especially since unadapted stuff could easily still be used

It's mostly better because of pacing. For example the time loop chapter reads much better when it's not compressed into a 4 minute short. Also, they cut an entire loop out of it because of time constraints.
The anime in cuts a bunch little things that make the series better. Like the last panel of pic related was cut, and while it may seem minor, in the end, you miss content from nearly every chapter which gives the series much more flavor.

I can get behind this argument, but I will also say that the anime pacing is great. yeah, they cut off stuff, but the lightning-fast pacing makes the episodes light and very easy to bingewatch.

Also, the manga doesn't have the hilarious voice acting, music and honestly a lot of jokes (Like the teruhashi aura morse-code) just work better in animated form.

This show needs more teruhashi, like, a lot more of her.
