No I didnt state thats its an objective way to scale the performances, but its one of many solid indicators, especially when it comes to frame rendering.
You would really know nothing if you think that you couldn't score a Skylake toaster for the price of a PS4 or Xbox one. You can easily manage a Core i3 setup without buying a GPU at that price.
Sony and MS have better come up with some kind of a buyback trade in to recover some of the sunk cost to entice people into upgrading, or you are going to face the reality that people are better served at least on Xbox end to drop in the pascal video card and be done with it.

No. Measuring FLOPS is one of the least accurate ways to measure hardware performance.
It is a measure of how much, under theoretical ideal conditions a piece of hardware can perform 1+1 a second. It has almost no real world applications and does not take into account any other kind of situation (different hardware and software can achieve the same end result by different methods, it's entirely possible for the hardware with more FLOPS to perform worse simply because it's less efficient and performing more operations to achieve the same result).

The only smart thing to do is sell their own Win 10 steambox that just gets the PC ports is powerful enough to support Oculus if that rumor is true. Access to steam if that rumor is true and they literally are selling pre-builts for $799 somehow at a minimal loss. Maybe built by order only so they aren't losing too much money on manufacturing. MS has fully embraced the PC market right under your noses. Future support for Vive in 2018.
