I'm sad to see that every FPS from now on is going to be a TF2 clone thanks to overwatch. As long as it is not objective based then I think it will be good

I'm actually kinda disappointed they seem to be basing it on Q3. It was, is, the best competitive FPS, but after D44M I was hoping they'd sorta remake the original Quake too. With single player campaign and stuff. I liked it much more than the Stroggs.

Quake Live costs 10 bucks or less and it's where the Quake 3 community is now. It's a rebalanced Quake 3 (mostly for the better) and it's cheaper than Quake 3.

Why would you even care about "microtransactions" in a game where you can unlock everything you want within 2 months or so? There's literally no reason to spend a dime to unlock anything since you get new missions every 3 hours.

For an F2P model it's pretty good compared to something like LoL or Hearthstone where you'd take a year+ to get even half of the content. It's basically get a new class -> learn to play them during a week or so -> buy a new one and repeat.

But regardless, I'm talking about actual gameplay, it's a game where even with the weaker classes, if you have good FPS skills you can still dominate everyone else fairly consistently, and this is what I expect from the new Quake. Class variety for good team work and alternate playstyles, but a large skill cap so that people with good movement, timing and aim can outshine others.

For an F2P model it's pretty bad compared to something like Dota, RtcW:ET or QL.

And lets not start with the gameplay.

How is it a particularly bad business model? It takes literally nothing but playing the game to unlock shit, and it's not like it even makes a difference before you have a decent amount of unlocks since you're still learning the game anyway.

They already start with a huge playerbase by default so they can count exclusively on "whales" to cash in. I fail to see how taking about 5 days playing a couple of hours each to unlock a class is a particularly bad business model for a lesser known title. Think of any F2P game that requires either grinding or paying to skip, they all have much more unreasonable requirements like Warface, S4 League, Hearthstone and so on.

I actually prefer a good F2P game, rare as they are, because by definition they require constant updates to keep the community interested. They are pretty irrelevant even now. ET was a mere cult classic and most of the people who worked on it aren't even in SD anymore.


And regardless all of this deviates from the point that class based shooters are now only being hated in here because of one hyped up flavor of the month title, there have been plenty of great class shooters and I don't see why the new Quake doesn't have potential, at worst if it sucks the Quake franchise can finally be buried.

You still go 0/20 when you start playing the game. The spawn system since that's the biggest change I'm aware of. Spawnkills have always been the biggest weakness of arena shooters. QL is a step up from Q3 for this aspect alone. Of course eliminating spawn kills entirely would be better. Things like "the Cure spawn" shouldn't exist.

I do have a vanilla quake install around in fact I play quake all the time. Nothing auto-aims with mlook on. You can shoot right under an enemy and shoot the wall, not the enemy.
