to clarify, Pokemon GO by itself generated more revenue than all the other mobile games combined
>nintendrones face when nintendo goes mobile
>b-b-but they're going to invest all the profits they made doing mobile games on their failing console market!
Where were you when gaming died?
it took them long enough
people don't realize that the original grey brick game boy surged in popularity because of red/blue
pokemon MMO when
This is nothing to do with >MUH GAMING
This is simply something that appeals to 99% of people
They hit the nail on the head with it you cannot deny this
I'm happy for Pokemon
You can bet that all the other companies will try to replicate this, dumping thousands of hours and millions of dollars on mobile shit .
Depends. A lot of other companies already got burned by trying to invest heavily in mobile shit, like Capcom.
Fucking brainwashing datamining and live footage all at once.
KGB would be proud
Say goodbye to AAA games user.
Is that supposed to be a bad thing?
Its pretty obvious what Nintendo is about to do to the moblie market. they're going to cleanse it in a holy fire by merging both the Moblie and Handheld market with their own device. It honestly be the smartest thing they can do.
Imagine a world with no The Last of Us, no Bloodborne, no Sunset Overdrive , no Final Fantasy XV, no Persona 5.
I fail to see the problem
They can't seem to scale up their servers properly even though they already have the experience from ingress and their app keeps crashing
This is the Pokemon MMO, congratulations Internet, you got what you wanted
On the bright side, I hope this means we are going to get a new Elite Beat Agents on mobile
It also helped businesses with poke stops and lures over 50% in sales
thats not the point .
>Nintendo will go full mobile in your lifetime
>Nintendo obstinately ignores the mobile market for several years while companies like Rovio, Supercell and King reap the benefits/
>Finally puts their foot in the door using their biggest gaming IP
>It completely takes over the industry and makes other mobile gaming companies look like gnats in comparison.
>mfw Nintendo now owns all of mobile gaming
How did this even happen?
thats the point idiot, not even candy crush can help local bussines
>How did this even happen?
90s kids are in their 20s .
name 1 other established franchise that has even tried to make the jump to mobile
>rips off ingress
>best mobile game
K
get back to me when its not shit or the hype died off like overwatch.
Star Wars
Uncharted
Little Big Planet
Fat Princess
Halo
one gimmick for another
because mobile games have this kind of success all the time, right?
The craziest part is that they achieve these numbers with an extremely conservative business model so far. The shop doesn't have too much interesting thing to buy. Nothing is truly "pay2win" like your typical supercell game or Japanese mobage with 3% SSR Gachas.
Pokeball? Sure if you live in a shithole, otherwise you get more than enough by farming pokéstops, bonus if you can reach one if you are at work or home. Also you can only buy low tier balls, instead of finding great balls.
Incense? Likewise, I'm getting more than enough pokemon by moving around.
Incubator? Maybe the only thing that I could see purchasing, especially while still needing some of the pokemons you get through eggs.
Lure? Let whales use them, my city gets constantly lure'd by others. In a dense area, you only need a very small fraction of players to keep luring for everyone else.
Inventory/Pokemon slots? Not needed, at least not now. Maybe later when you get a lot of very high CP pokemon you want to keep.
there is only one explanation, normies.
I never expected this to happen.
Why would they do that?
Tetris is what made the original Game Boy absurdly popular.
By the time Pokemon had been released outside of Japan the Gameboy Pocket was already on the market and the Gameboy Color was soon to be released.
this kind of thing could only work for pokemon
its going to be funny watching a bunch of people try to pull their own pokemon go's, even nintendo with other franchises, and all of them bombing into the ground
i bet even pokemon go dies after a couple months
I don't understand this shit. Its literally a shovelware with microshop like million other shovelwares.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
>selling fewer products will give you more money
(you)
everyone makes phone games
>selling fewer products will give you more money
If you stop losing money on 40 products and focus on the few that are making money rain
What 40 products are those?
Final fantasy?
Iwata would have never allow for that to happen. If only had lived a couple of more years.
uncharted
>Guys, this isnt funny anymore, what is going on?
Gimmick smartphone FOTM game with a very popular name that appeals to the childhood of teenagers, but it's not hard enough to make them realize they are too stupid to play something more complex than Flappy Bird.
This is absolutely insane. I like what Niantic does but why is this happening? It's not good, it's not fun, it's barely a game.
Welp.
Say goodbye to actual Nintendo games, prepare for more gimmick smartphone bullshit, because this is Nintendo's future.
I think Nintendo already found the right formula. Make a few big-name mobile titles in-house and then license their IP to existing mobile gaming companies for all the filler. That way they reap the benefits of mobile while continuing to do their own thing in the meantime.
It's literally a social and fitness platform disguised as a game. That's why.
Why would they continue making normal games when cheap smartphone games bring much more money, and they don't need to establish a console audience since smartphones give you 2 billion potential costumers.
thats a lot of footage of the ground user.
>taking a stroll
>fitness
Literally made by the ingress devs moron
What's not to understand? Normies and casuals which make up the largest part of the game market don't invest time in trying every game up that looks good. So a good game will be passed up by the non-gaming masses.
Meanwhile, Pokemon is a familar name and concept for many people who don't game much and so they don't have to deal with *any* learning curve at all.
Time, money, learning curve, and familiarity are investments that non-gamers are *not* willing to make, even for a "good" gaming experience.
>walking
>fitness
Maybe if you are 70, or you are one of those fatties who convinces himself that walking will make him get fit because running is way too much effort.
holy shit wat
>Imagine a world with no The Last of Us, no Bloodborne, no Sunset Overdrive , no Final Fantasy XV, no Persona 5.
2 different markets you fucking idiot. Casuals vs core audience
Drop any of the two and you barely have a reach
More like a surveillance and advertising program disguised as a game.
The core audience is gone though.
Wii U was a bigger flop than Gamecube because they lost their core audience after the Wii.
They are after the Wii audience, and that one is in smartphones.
They already have all the infrastructure in place to support a console, and even one successful console would result in tons of money in addition to whatever they get from mobile.
Despite your butt hurt, walking is considered excercising. I don't because I go hard at the gym but that's me. Objectively walking is excercise
That said most people I see with this go all hard out on Sprinting/running as well as biking to hatch them eggs. Usually when they're done or take breaks they catch pokemon
actually its pretty fleshed out, especially for being a free game. plus theres no daly jewing cap, so you can play as much as you want.
the core audience doesnt care about Nintendo, its a lost battle, its time to cut their losses and bail the fuck out.
Their core audience is console drones, not hardcore folks from the older SNES era
>walking is considered excercising
Walking is only useful because if you don't even walk, your entire body will get atrophied, nothing more.
It won't improve your health, it will just prevent you from having your legs rot away.
This game took all the established rules of Monetization and User Acquisition and chucked it in the trash. And it somehow worked.
I still have trouble believing it.
Im about to buy a phone so i can play this game and be a normie. Wish me luck
And those console drones are a very small minority compared to the audience in smartphones.
No reason to spend millions and millions and years of work when one cheap smartphone game will give you much more money.
Kingdom Hearts I think.
Dragon Quest?
Once a kind, always a king
Don't tell me, tell everyone in the fitness and health world that walking shouldn't be considered excercise.
Anyway, the biggest draw here is the social platform that incorporates travel. I wouldn't call it a hit game but rather a hit social app. Pretty much joining the ranks of Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Only big difference is that it gamifies social interaction and exploration
Make sure you get one with a gyroscope if you actually want to use the AR function for taking pictures of the little shits. My chinkshit doesn't have one so no Pokemon Snap for me.
It is an exercise, but walking alone won't do shit for your health, it only prevents your body from falling apart.
can't wait until the bubble pops
Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro
$170, has one of the most powerful CPUs in the market, MicroSD slot, 1080p screen, fingerprint sensor and 4000 mAh battery.
To find a better phone you'll have to go for the LG G5 and the like which cost $500.
They have that structure, but have proven to themselves and everyone a few times in a row that they can't make a lucrative console anymore.
They used to make playing cards, yanno. And Toyota(toyoda) used to make automatic looms. It's not unthinkable to change what you do and abandon an old market. It's occasionally the smartest thing a company can do for itself.
Nintendo has become Saitama. They enter the fray, throw a single punch and then they're done. Nothing else necessary.
I wouldn't be surprised if they're making more money through ad revenue from drawing people into stores and restaurants than they are from in-app purchases.
>tfw girls will never paint your webcomic character on their face
feels bad man
This is a business, there's no reason to stop, and you'd have to be a fool to think smartphones won't be their main focus in 5 years.
> it only prevents your body from falling apart.
so its still good then?
I don't understand this. How can it possibly fail?
They still have:
>5+ generations to go
>Easy microtransaction shit like:
>Pay for battles
>Pay to trade
They can milk this App for AT LEAST 4 years.
If you are a NEET, of course.
But the rest of the humanity already does plenty of walking throughout the day.
If you really want to get fit, start running, swimming and lifting.
Halo
I want to buy this but I'm worried that they're sending their users' personal information to China.
I'll probably just get a Nexus 5x or an HTC One M9 instead.
it isn't sustainable
casuals will get tired of it and move on
you are only running on nostalgia fuel
If you were at Niantic you'd ruin the game; that's horrible and uncalled for.
They did mention updates to trade and battles but paying for shit like that would fuck the user base up and their future.
If anything, they'll keep the model they have now. Biggest money maker is the low package of pokecoin purchases which makes them millions
You are getting a smartphone, you are getting deep in the botnet anyway.
Also, if you have to choose, get the 32GB Nexus 5X, the HTC One M9 has the Snapdragon 810 CPU, which is infamous due to how hard it overheats.
Take into count too that the Nexus doesn't have a MicroSD slot.
Nintendo spent years denying that mobile are the future.
It took Iwata's death to show how wrong they were.
No smartphone game is sustainable in the long run, and the gameplay is way too gimmicky and shallow, even for casuals.
>Easy microtransaction shit like:
>Pay for battles
>Pay to trade
And that's how you completely kill the game.
Do I need to remind you that people REFUSED to pay $1 a year for Whatsapp?
Cause it accessible + pokemon nostalgia. Everyone knows the fist 150. There even a rap
But they haven't lost money on any products in a long, LONG while.
Clash Royale is actually pretty fun and interesting for something so basic.
He was holding nintendo back
Let's stack this up against Nintendo's most recent Pokémon release in November 2014. That release sold over 3 million copies in it's first three days of sales and over 11.84 million world-wide as of March 2016. As a $40 USD game, that's over $120 million in its first three days of sales. Yet during that release the price only jumped a high of 7.5% in 2 weeks after release. Pokémon Go may have had record levels of downloads, but based on what it made on its first day of sales, it would need to maintain this same level of revenue for 12 days before it was able to reach the same amount of revenue their last Pokémon release reached in its first three days of sales.
