It's been a rough 2 years. We went from the event of the year to not. It's disappointing to look back and remember how fun GDQs used to be. They're not totally devoid of entertainment now but they just aren't as good.

What makes it painful is they know exactly why it isn't as entertaining and it's an intentional decision. The power of donations and increasing the high water mark has created so many rules and discouraged all the things that made GDQ great.

Before it was a crazy cross between people who kicked ass at games and people that loved them. Now not so much. Now it's just a donation drive.

I watched a few of the "After GDQ Discussion" streams and judging from all I heard from organizers, they just don't understand why they were popular and think it was solely because speedrunning is entertaining. It is the first time but what was entertaining was the runners all being together, talking, asking questions, having fun, laughing, etc.

No fun allowed GDQ 2017.

Speedrunning is a meme.

Anyone have the list of what speedruns are actually worth watching?
Mainly looking for cringe, but will settle for an actually interesting speedrun as well.

...

Owen Wilson's game

Thanks

For more of people being fuckups in public? Sure.
For the marathon itself? Stopped completely at AGDQ15. AGDQ14 was when everything started going downhill.

It really is a fucking shame, I've been watching them since AGDQ11 when it was a small marathon mainly focused on speedrunning, with the money raised being more of a side thing.

The importance it had on the stream itself at the time was so little that it made donation wars have more of an impact. No sponsors, no Hitlerian rules and restrictions, It was just bros from SDA and the rest of the community just chilling, it was live, and they still managed to raise a lot of money You could tell they were having fun and just fucking around in the process still. Livestreaming wasn't as popular at the time either, which added to its initial appeal as well. I fucking loved that shit, I actually wanted to donate a couple times too, hell I even wanted to pick up a game just so I could submit in the submissions thread they have before a GDQ in hopes of actually running there. But by the time I did actually pick up a game and start getting decent at it, it was already too late.

Now it tries too hard to appeal to the mainstream and to be professional. This is exactly why the cringe moments have more of an impact now than they did before. They were always there, but the old environment made them less awkward, since it was all mostly friends chilling. Now you've got a room with countless fucking people since it's now become a public event which just makes it REALLY fucking awkward, combined with the boost in popularity it got in the past couple years which further motivates people to upload those moments to Youtube: youtube.com/watch?v=8WotPzG2nys

All this pandering just to make more money out of their cut, losing a pleasant to watch natural friendly atmosphere that didn't feel commercial, instead going for an artificial, E-Sports wannabe one.

The doggy's fucking dead and it's not coming back.

Yes I am. My life's empty.

I recently got into GDQ the day after this most recent one. Can't wait to hop on the bandwagon, I always assumed they were just shitty lets plays.

>Fallout 3 :Tranniversary Edition
>Resident Let's-a-go 2
HAHAHA

There are still glimmers of fun on couple of the runs in the last GDQ. Jak and Daxter, SoTN, Pepsiman, Trauma Center. Not every run is the same.

SGDQ 2016 was unintentionally fucking great. A lot of the runs were genuinely entertaining, but since they're so keen to have trannies there it's brought a whole new level of cringe to the event (which some people are probably happy about). I agree that GDQs are not as good as they used to be, but the event that just passed was the best one in a while. And thank god there was no fucking drama.

This passed gdq was pretty good actually. Not nearly as much cringe as was expected, plus some actual fun (see Pepsi man, or Owen Wilson for more details)

>Sonic '06
I hope those guys come back. That run was funny as fuck.

What time stamp does Owen Wilson make a guest appearance?

wooooooooooooooow
how incredible progressive.

half way through.

Am I the only guy who doesn't like the runs where developers are talking?

i dont like it either. since its always skype call in with delays and the runner usually is pretty much makin fun of the testers of a game and hwo they overlook shit like skipping half the fuckin game.

ty the tasmenian tiger is a perfect example of it. but mighty switch force was ok

They need to stop allowing long ass runs, if your game is over 1 hour 15 minutes, you're out. Sub 45 minutes would be even better.

No.
