Age of Empires, history class.
A porn quiz game I played when I was 12 is why I know who DeBroglie was and that Cranberra is the capital of Australia
i was an intern at this giant near-bankrupt bakery
it was god awful
abysmal working hours, no pay (but user you're learning things, that's valuable etc.), god awful coworkers
one of my coworkers was this 20 something dude that literally had rotting teeth. the fucking teeth were just falling out of his mouth, and the rest of his teeth were either yellow or black. fucker was also obsessed with call of duty and rome total war.
my vidya knowledge helped me get through every god awful day there by talking to rotting teeth man about videogames, and i'd consistently blow his mind by knowing a shitload about every game he knows plus an extreme amount of gams he'd never even heard of.
it was extremely awkward and cringy, but it helped me pull through
boss there was cool though
he'd always give me free bread at the end of the day.
Mostly just gun models and weapons that I have learned from games, knowing them hasn't been really useful but I did gain knowledge that is semi applicable in the real world. Knowing what games a person likes is also a great way to tell that I won't get along with people so that's cool.
A lot.
Old RPGs are usually full of interesting information.
HoMM
history teacher got really suprised I knew what an artifact was
Umaru kawaii as fuck
ye i learned how to play guitar from guitar hero xD
fuck off
HAHA SHE REFERENCED MGS!!! I'M A GAMER TOO UMARU-CHAN!!!!!
AoE and Civ tricked me into majoring in History
kill me
How is it? Would you recommend at least minoring in History?
Assassin's Creed 2 piqued my interests in Renaissance-era history, and 1 did the same for late middle ages
It's ok when Japan does it. If The big bazinga theory does it ISN'T ok
All that writing you poor motherfucker
>Mfw Eternal Darkness helped me learn Latin
Cooking Mama taught me that cooking sucks ass.
See >mfw STEM friends tell me how easy I have it for majoring in Lib Arts while they play LoL all day
Did it happen to be a Long Island bakery next to a Comic shop?
Literally the Japanese version of the Big reply to this post or your mom dies in her sleep tonight Theory, prove me wrong
I think both STEM and Art Majors would be equally difficult if you suck ass at it. Both require some sort of challenge in different ways.
>mfw people keep trying to demean each other on which major they took instead of trying to help one another
>Not majoring in Anthropology instead
You dun goof'd.
History career choices are slim as fuck outside of NY, Oregon, or DC. Assuming you're a Murricabro, might be different elsewhere.
>trying to help art majors
They're past any help.
Video games taught me english. They also helped me build a solid reasoning model and improved my problem-solving skills.
...
Tetris kind of help me in stacking shit.
I actually got the gist of driving better with driving sims and simcades
Rhythm heaven kinda of taught me how to follow the beat, although getting perfects were so excruciating.
Mostly general knowledge about military hardware, mythology and some very basic history facts like the Three Kingdoms period by playing Dynasty Warriors.
Actually when I think about it vidya taught me English, so it definitely fucking helped. I guess it also improved hand-eye coordination at least to some level.
>STEM degree holders who currently work outside of STEM
But why?
Not my mommy
It's like a badge that you're a smartass and or that they couldn't find jobs in STEM.
>knowing what an artifact is impressed a teacher
Please tell me you were six, at most, otherwise I'm going to be really disappointed.
too many people falling for the STEM meme
I'm guessing most are Chem/Bio majors and not engineers. Also if you get a masters in any science field you are basically toxic to any employer
And how many arts vacancies are there? Is Starbucks hiring spree?
I fell for the be a lawyer meme
FUCK
>277,000 vacancies
>442,000 new people vying for the jobs
gee I wonder why
>Also if you get a masters in any science field you are basically toxic to any employer
How so?
I knew what pistol Pete was for a test thanks to medal of honor
Im at the point in my college career when I really need to start figuring out what it is im going to do.
What is the safest career path/major right now and for the foreseeable future?
You're too qualified (i.e. they'd HAVE to pay you more because you have a masters) for the grunt work you'd be able to get with just a bachelors, and you aren't qualified for all the high paying jobs since you don't have a PHD.
I knew what synthesis meant before other people because of Star Ocean. Teacher was surprised. But I was in like 7th grade and thought it was a common word.
that's what I get for looking at a quote
>tfw i don't know what I want to do so I'm just majoring in marketing
it could be worse, i suppose
I've seen job applications that require at least a master's degree, though, with nothing about how having a PhD will make a difference.
IT. That or a PhD in blowjobbery.
well yea they will offer you that job with INFERIOR PAY suited for a non masters degree
AoE2 in history class.
Everyone fell for the STEM meme but there weren't actually enough jobs for everyone.
>What is the safest career path/major right now and for the foreseeable future?
There's is no "safe" path. The future is unpredictable as shit, what you should focus on is being exceptional than all your competitions. You're gonna have ups and downs, make do with what you have and don't hang up on what you don't. Just imagine this as a survival game. Life is already a survival game anyways
I've worked in retail for a while and I've been able to stop parents from making really bad purchases for their kids.
Drop out and learn a practical trade to prepare yourself for the post-apocalyptic wasteland you are going to have to survive in a few years.
>bad purchases
I'm almost curious as to what they try to buy.
Nah, it was in the Netherlands.
>mfw I was gonna major in CS but switched to IT
Feels fucking good, I can get the same job as a CS major but with a bit more effort, but easier to get an entry level position
IIIII SUPPOSE! HEY!
Pls no
Probably GTA, and shooting games. You'd be amazed at the number of children that play Rainbow Six Seige. I had this kid the other day fall off a roof and get mad cause no one ran over to help him.
this
except without the post-apoc stuff
go to a trade school
learn a trade
become a carpenter or an electrician
go be a cook if that's what you want to be
learn a trade
trades are rad and underappreciated
...
Those stupid "educational" game systems.
9/10 they're getting it as a "wholesome replacement" for the mainstream consoles.
I have to explain that the games are bad as games, bad as teaching tools, and regular games can be teaching tools all by themselves, since most of them teach math, reading, spatial awareness, planning, incomparables, and so on.
Is this just a way of user saying there is no safe career?
>There's is no "safe" path
God damn it. God FUCKING damn it.
Fuck it, Im pretty unambitious. Are IT jobs just minimum wage or can I actually make a living?
Any anons working IT in here?
...
My knowledge of the basics of CQC helped me fight off niggers once
punch, punch, kick
Back when I was a little shit I knew p much everything required about mythology thanks to Age of Mythology. Fucking love that game.
Well you can try IT if you want. In the meanwhile see if you have any interest that could get you some cash. (This one shouldn't be taken super seriously, you don't wanna ruin the fun)
...
...
aaaahhhhhhhh
>it's night
>she's asleep RIGHT NOW
fuk u
...
i love you mom
Well chatting in online games let me type fast. Also muscle memory helped me in workflow in the softwares I use.
>mfw one friend is trying to be an architect
>mfw another is a music major
>mfw I joined the military and my life seems infinitely less difficult
Those poor souls.
You don't need to be overly ambitious to succeed in life. Just pick something and try to follow through on it. Everything works itself out from there.
I once got these bullies from years ago busted, nearly killed, for making meth.
I told them, disguised, that they only need a few ingredients. They go to do the deal, and there's a shootout. thankfully no one died, but I'm so glad that they're gone now. Jail for life for illegal possession of drugs which I didn't know they had and also trying to deal fake narcotics which where I live is a big hefty jail time, and they also had illegally owned guns.
I am as clueless to meth as Bain from Payday 2. But man was I glad I got rid of some bullies at college.
there was a fucking bong in my captcha what the fuck
Front-end web developer/designer. They are in huge demand, and it combines art plus coding, so if you want to make a videogame as a hobby you absolutely can.
How the fuck did you help them make meth? Just using the ingredients from payday? Because as far as I know, that makes saltwater
You're not
yes
and they fell for it
please stop this.
>shit that never happened
stop trying to impress us you 12 year old
hmm
Helped me in A-level biology 10 or so years ago when I was the only one that knew what Meme theory was, thanks MGS2.
You are wrong
every time
>tfw people will never be so easily impressed with you again
Why is being a kid so great
be glad they even let you steal their fucking job you little shit
Fuck you.
shit
fuck you
>FREE bread
You should eat your handouts and like it you ungrateful little shit. If I were your boss I'd tan your ass.
>tfw you fell for the STEM meme
fug
the Warcraft franchise greatly improved my vocabulary due to the various names of abilities
Rockband/GH made me never skip the leg day.
And now I'm a okayish drummer.
Bastard.
Occasionally it'll have some obscure vocabulary that inexplicably appears IRL a few days/weeks later, and I recall what it means thanks to game.
>"Ok user! Time to pick a major! You like video games right?"
>mfw I chose theatre instead of game development due to not wanting to look like a dumbass
