Let's decide Sup Forums. What is Vanillaware's BEST game?
>no GrimGrimoire
>no Grand Knights History
Casualfag normie babby's first Vanillaware list.
Educate me. How are they compared to the ones everyone has a;ready played?
GG is an RTS and GKH is pretty much a traditional turn-based jrpg with some minor tactical formation elements and a good amount of customization.
As opposed to arpgs like the others.
Aside from genre differences they still have that same Vanillaware flavor as the others.
Dragon's Dogma.
Nice to see someone finally mention GrimGrimoire. DC or Leifrasir are my favorites, but GG never gets enough love
Worth getting for anyone who enjoyed GKH, since it's a spiritual successor of sorts by the same director. Heavily apes the VW art-style too, which is a good thing in my books.
I've tried to start like 3 threads about this on Sup Forums and not a damn one of them gets a single reply. Is it worth getting if you don't have internet?
I'd say so, though you might want to wait for a price drop if you're unsure if you wanna pay full retail price on a blind buy. Did you try the demo?
Challenger is my favorite class so far. It's basically ALLAH ACKBAR the class, but it's just so satisfying blowing people up.
No I haven't. I'm almost certain I'll like the gameplay. I think it looks great. The only thing I'm concerned with is the single player content lacking
Main quest is like 40 hours I think. They also added all the Japanese DLC and added a bunch of quests and all the classes too.
40 hours is pretty good. I am planning to get internet eventually, but If the single player was lacking, then I was just going to wait. I think I may pick it up now
I can't believe they haven't ported it to Vita. Never played it but it looks basically tailor made for handheld
>it looks basically tailor made for handheld
I'm not sure what this means, but it would be cool if they did something with it. It's still stuck on the PS2 and is basically ignored. I love Vanillawares action games, but I'm really glad their new game isn't going to be action, because GG proves they can succeed with other genres
> >no GrimGrimoire
I don't even know why people keep arguing for GrimGrimoire. It was horrible.
Maybe you like it because it's your first real time strategy game ever but for others who played stuff like Red Alert and Starcraft... GrimGrimoire was really bad in comparison. It's like comparing a AAA game to some shitty mobile game.
I'd get internet for it. There's plenty to do singleplayer but the online stuff is great.
It was fun. Games don't have to be the most complex entry in the genre to be fun
Is Dragon's Crown worth playing solo? Or is it going to be one of those difficult games that make you feel hopeless alone and force you to grind?
I've been wondering about what Egis Rim;a gameplay system is. Have they talked about it?
*aegis rim's (damn autocorrect)
Not that I know of. There is very little info on it
I beat it solo and had a good time.
It's fun solo and worthwhile, it's just extra fun with other people. As long as you do sidequests there's no need to grind. At worst you can just go switch the difficulty level whenever you want.
I never played past the hard difficulty, but I beat normal with all characters, and hard with 1 at 74 hours, completely solo with no grinding
Yes. Totally playable solo.
What do you mean by grinding? the game consists of the same 10 stages. the fun of it is grinding.
>Top Tier
Muramasa Rebirth
Dragon's Crown (w/co-op group)
>Good Tier
Grand Knights History
Odin Sphere Leifhrasir
Dragon's Crown (solo or with the 5 nips that still play)
Muramasa
>Meh Tier
GrimGrimoire
Odin Sphere
13 Sentinels Aegis Rim looks really cool so far, hope we get some news on it soon
Are there any other studios that try as hard with art design other than Vanillaware?
Anyone beside me feel like Muramasa's main game is absolutely horrendous? Game fucking sucked but the DLC was god tier.
I consider buying vita just for those three games.
>Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
>Not in top tier
I loved the combat and bosses in Muramasa. Anytime you weren't fighting was a chore though, and you spent way too much time not fighting
Muramasa Rebirth
Muramasa, because I'm a weeb.
Odin Sphere remake is a close second though.
In order:
1- Muramasa remake
2- Odin Sphere remake
3- Dragons Crown
Havent played GG and GKH.
Like 80% of the game is running and shitty platforming to get orbs. It was awful
The combat was pretty much the only improvement though, not enough other additions in my opinion to validate it getting any higher
I absolutely loved the music, bosses, and combat in the main game (as well as all the hot spring scenes), the rest felt a bit of a chore though understandably but its great.
I like to think of the non-combat sections as enjoying the visuals/aesthetic.
Really a gorgeous game.
>the lack of love for Dragon's Crown itt
Why
What are you talking about user? Plenty of people agree it's a good game.
z-axis is a dealbreaker, sorry
The orbs are completely pointless too, since the game gives you so many and there's literally nothing to use them on but weapons. The amount of orbs you get in it make the amount of rupees you get in Zelda look like Resident Evil 1 ammo
The combat being improved is a pretty massive deal considering how mediocre it was in the original, and how good the remake is. Plus the combat is 90% of the gameplays meat, so it's not like it's just some side feature getting better.
It definitely is. The fields are breathtaking, but they do reuse backgrounds too often, and it did kind of start to grow old after awhile
But the enemies aren't rebalanced with the character's combat imrpovements. They're too easy and they only get more HP in the higher difficulties IIRC.
Am I retarded or are Gonbe and Arashimaru fucking terrible?
I just got through the Muramasa dlc and I quite enjoyed playing as Okoi and Rajyaki but fuck the other two. Honestly it felt like I missed something vital on how to play them.
I think it adds to the feeling of being on an adventure, but I understand why you wouldn't like seeing the same background multiple times.
You get bots to help so it's not really solo
Unless you want to challenge yourself and ACTUALLY go alone
Only played Dragon's Crown.
It's alright, but becomes a bit of a clusterfuck on co-op. Also there's a lot of downtime between levels and the levels themselves aren't very long. And the side-quests quickly become tedious, especially when you're running through the game co-op and each player has to individually go and deal with that.
But it's alright. I enjoyed it. Being so maneuverable with double jumps and air-evades isn't something you see often in the genre.
>Am I retarded
Yes.
Lots of games are fun. We're talking about Vanillaware's best game here. Note not most obscure. You don't get extra credit for obscure. Best.
Dragon's Crown on PS4 when? I could just get it using PSnow but why wouldn't they? pls ;_;
I didn't say it was their best. It definitely isn't, but I don't think it's horrible by any means
I doubt it will happen, at least not anytime soon. DC is already in HD and only came out 3 years ago
I went alone simply because I got tired of reviving bots
I'm absolutely loving Leiftrasir right now, it's better than Muramasa vanilla or DC. Haven't played Muramasa Rebirth yet, though. ps4 port when
Pc port when? ;_;
Get a Vita or PS4
Overall, I would say Muramasa Rebirth. Leifthrasir is my favorite, but I think Muramasa is just a bit better executed overall.
I haven't tried Grand Knights History, but I've enjoyed all of Vanillaware's other games. They're probably my favorite extant developer.
I enjoyed GrimGrimoire, and I'm no stranger to PC RTS games. It has its weaknesses, but they did a good job at making every unit unique and interesting: even the workers.
It also has perhaps the best plot and cast of characters to be found in the genre, not that there's much competition.
Dragon's Crown. I haven't played the new odin sphere but I played the old one muramasa and grimgrimoire, I also played Grand Knights but it's clearly intended to play with the online component so I dropped it.
>ps4 port when
Hopefully soon. I'd kill to play some PS3 and PSVita games on PS4.
Don't you ever post this kickshitter in my topic again.
I also think DC is the best. Overall it feels like their most complete game
inb4 that Umaru faggot starts shitting up the thread again.
Real talk, though; about a year ago, George commented to a fan who asked him about it on Facebook something to the effect of "we're exploring a potential situation to bring some of our games over", but deleted it not long after (It only ever got picked up by Nichegamer) and since then, we haven't heard a peep at all about it. So who knows, maybe that was never actually true and he was just being polite to a fan; maybe he jumped the gun and deleted it when he realised it could potentially come back to bite him on the butt; maybe they fully intended on it, but hit a wall, given that Atlus are quite heavily involved with some of their more recent work, and maybe it is true and it's just something they have on the backburner for the moment.
I personally found GrimGrimoire more challenging and fun, but only because Odin Sphere and Muramasa become repetitive after a while.
still can't decide if I like Dragon's Crown but it's been entertaining so far
not the same user but play the demo, don't just buy the game because you 'think' you'll like it. especially since it's so easily available, it'll save you from wasting it on a game you could spend on something else if it turns out you don't like it after all
When someone "tries hard" with their art, I would assume they would try to avoid having their art look identical across their portfolio.
George's art is amazing, but it's identical across all of Vanillaware's games.
Odin sphere is literal hot garbage. So you can remove that from the list
>I would assume they would try to avoid having their art look identical across their portfolio.
Oh that Pablo Picasso, what a hack.
the party member AI is dumb as shit. some challenges don't scale down to 1p or 1p+bots very well.
Oh yeah man, fuck mastering your own unique style. That shit's for AMATEURS.
Odin sphere. It has the best combat mechanics.
They have steadily grown since muramasa, and odin sphere has the most well tweaked combat system. dragon's crown also had a creative battle system but it felt too loose.
>you're a bad artist if you only work in your own style
Have all my keks for sounding like a dumbass
