How long until we make a clear distinction between true PC gaming and this DRM-infested console-like faggotry?
How long until we make a clear distinction between true PC gaming and this DRM-infested console-like faggotry?
>Best digital distribution service available
That's cute you feel corporate paranoia like that but you're going to have to make some serious points against steam first
define true pc gaming
Steam, saviour of pc gaming lol ure weak
Steam is fucking great
Kill yourself
You don't so much own games but rather rent them with a key that lets you play them. I use steam but buying games in a physical medium is one of the few ways to ensure you actually own them.
You have GoG, you have independent sites, you do not need Steam to game on the PC. Sure they have a huge selection, but unless you want to spend time searching for cracks that let you play the games without steam you are better off searching elsewhere.
I get that, but you're thinking about it wrong, you've paid for unlimited access to that game for as long as steam is running. It doesn't make sense for steam to do anything to fuck up that train of cash flow and their support is very good. In practical terms you've got as much freedom to play that game through steam as you do off of a disc.
Obviously if steam goes down this whole process might get fucked up but it's definitely the most profitable thing valve has ever created so that's not so big of a worry for the foreseeable future.
I think we can agree non of what OP posted has anything to do with the pros and cons of digital distribution
The minute paid online comes into play
>true PC gaming
>console-like faggotry
pls be bait
for your own sake
considering how little physical games exist and how much worse other steam-like platforms are, I dont see how you can currently be master race without using steam.
Master race doesnt miss out on games. Unless they are win10 only, in which case nothing of value is lost
Oh yeah lets go back to when we had to input serial keys into the game and hope to god that you dont fucking lose that key or some stupid shit happens to the game server and you lose it.
That was so fucking fun right
I think he means a platform like GOG, in which case this could happen
You really think this autist-infested shithole of all places can do something difficult called self-reflection and realize their choices up to this point are fucking stupid?
Shit, if they had a couple of braincells functioning, they would have just pirated everything they play instead of supporting either a cancer industry or cancer fat billionaire fuck who made literally 1 (ONE) good game in his shitty fat life.
Having a good argument with yourself?
if it wasn't steam it would be something else like origin or uplay, or a million unique drm providers
it is what it is, could be better, could be worse
You need to be older than 12 to post here, I'm going to have to ask you to leave
>GOG
Steam has the ability to sell DRM-free software, It's just that a lot of publishers tack on DRM.
FTL is one example that comes to mind.
Have you considered doing self-reflection on yourself?
Then again, like you said, it IS difficult after all.
Modern anti piracy measures are less annoying than stupid puzzle wheels or looking shit up in the manual.
Now, there was that Starforce copy protection a few years back that fried people's hard drives, but other than that, who cares?
>implying either of you aren't retarded
your parents hate you and tolerate you only because the crushing disappointment you bring mollifies them in a depression-laden stupor
good job
Then is not steam fault but the publishers
Then what the fuck is OP complaining about
Resorting to projection now?
wew
Well and the moment steam takes them away I pirate them back, duh.
sorry senpai but I just paid $20 for the entire Worms collection. Before steam that would have cost $20 for one of its many shovelware gaems.
Valve has forced PC prices down. Before, sales were 15% off or 30% off if it was CUH RA ZY. Now you actually see 75-90% sales or even games being given away for free.
Steam has been a blessing to PC gaming and while I appreciate no one likes DRM (I don't), I appreciate more being able to log into my steam account anywhere and download my games without having to lug around a binder full of discs.
Yeah kiddo, you sure told me. Look at what you're posting mate, I've seen toddlers do less bitching than you.
>no true scotsman
lol
Considering how before Steam blew up, publishers were all experimenting with their own DRM services and always online schemes, I don't mind Steam at all. DRM other than Steamworks that come bundled with the game downloads should not be allowed though.
You don't own your games any more than a console player owns their """physical""" copies. The same exact rules apply to both. You don't own the game, you own a license to play it. The only difference between the two is that one disk's data is read by lasers and the other's is read by magnets.
There's nothing stopping you from backing up and/or cracking your games
>you do not need Steam to game on the PC
>DRM-infested
Publishers/devs are free to implement Steamworks or not, therefore they are the ones to blame.
If steam wasn't there EA would have moved in. They were interested way before MS was
So we'd all be using origins and be at their mercy
we all agree with you but in my country I face jail when I pirate
I wouldn't say you do either. It's just very, very convenient. It's like you don't need a car to travel but..
The difference is that I don't think EA would've been willing to share their platform with competitors, and their competitors in turn wouldn't have been willing to cooperate with EA.
>sorry senpai but I just paid $20 for the entire Worms collection
lol why, what for? just play one fucking worms game and you done
its always the same shit
The campaign levels are interesting.
>So we'd all be using origins and be at their mercy
haha no
that would have marked the day I either started pirating or dropping the hobby
>Getting an oculus
Ughh and he could have built a new pc to play with his wife's son with that extra 1080
>There's nothing stopping you from backing up and/or cracking your games
There's the DMCA for people living in the US.
But yeah, other countries have laws in place that give you the right to creating personal-use only backups.
when people stop pirating
>There's nothing stopping you from backing up and/or cracking your games
how do I do this for my steam games?
>You don't own your games any more than a console player owns their """physical""" copies. The same exact rules apply to both. You don't own the game, you own a license to play it. The only difference between the two is that one disk's data is read by lasers and the other's is read by magnets.
What kind of drm is in place where you can't just copy a blu ray disk and pirate?
>how do I do this for my steam games?
Find a crack for the game you want from a shady website on the internet and copy it into the game directory, overwriting whichever files it needs to.
