The only thing I could say to counter their point are their updates and continued support to MGSV. Maybe the time they are getting this new team to spend with the game is so they can familiarize themselves with the game engine but I could be wrong in that regard.

The new metal gear games they are planning on making won't be new.
I'm betting next year we will see Metal Gear Solid remastered with the Fox Engine and updated to fit MGSV's control scheme. Then the following games in the series will be remastered as well in sequence, all selling for $60 a pop.

Because most fans of the series started with MGS, not metal gear or metal gear 2. Would be too risky; a full blown remaster of MGS is pretty much a license to print money.

They've never flat out said no. But they've been very quick to say no about other things.

I entered the series with MGS, as most people I know. I've gone back and played the first two MG games and...they are not great. I think they would have to change a lot more then the controls and graphics to make it a hit. The plot is really simple and theres not many twists, which is a big draw to the franchise, how crazy the story and characters are. The bosses are boring and not memorable, same with your support characters etc etc.

It would have to be a massive overhaul I think, and Konami just does not care that much to put forth the effort.
