So what happens to this franchise? Does it just disappear forever? How could Konami successfully revive it after the Silent Hills fuck up and abusing the IP for years by giving it to western developers?

eh, that would take some time, but the tl;dr version could be:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.
In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.
Let it lie. Series really had no reason to sincerely continue after 3 anyways.

here's the recommended emulator settings for SH1. Works great on all other games too.
The plugins used are:
-Pete's OpenGL 1.78; (more options & better performance than 2.x version)
-Eternal's SPU Engine.
alternatively just use a software renderer for very 1:1 PS1-like graphics, including 240p only.
...OR just buy the game from PSN Store for few bucks.

1 is directly connected to 3, but the rest are separate.
Play the first three in order.

4 and 2 are connected in that the official coverage of 4's protag's breakdown is in a newspaper in 2.

I'm thinking of playing them now after some years have passed, but I don't really like replaying/re-watching stuff a lot, it takes away from its specialness for me.
Favorite area in the series? I love Room 302, the Hilltop Center and Lakeview Hotel.

As much as Brookhaven is scary on its own, Alchemilla is definitely my favorite. It feels much more maze-y, which made me feel a lot more helpless when exploring it.

Trust me I know, it takes me the longest to finish because I get pissed and will put it down for a week or two.
Truck through it user, it's a labor of love. When the haunting in your apartment start happening you won't be able to put it down, they're some of the best scares in the series.

Speaking of silent hill 4 and spiritual successors, i think that's probably the biggest hope you could have to a proper sequel.
The idea that all the crazy shit in Silent Hill would be contained to a particular area was bizarre enough, but then with Silent hill 4 trying to argue that the influence of that town was expanding into its surroundings offers some potential.
SH3 already demonstrated that individual people with strong enough will / "potential" can already affect their surroundings outside the town's borders, to the point of creating their own pocket "worlds" of sort. In a sense it's not a new idea, and could be utilized.
I only have a ps2 and my ancient laptop that is slowly dying on me, but don't worry about me, I spend a lot of time looking through local markets hunting it down.

assuming it was made sometime after 2005, it should be more than capable of running PS1 emulation, at least in the Software mode.
I already played PS1 and N64 games on my ancient 1-core WinXP machine, with no GPU.

SH2 only requires you to unpack the sh2proxy-fix's files to the game's root, and replace the old .exe.
