So apparently the River City Ransom remake for 3ds is being localized and released in tje west in September.
Anyone ever play the original? I'm not too sure what the game is like other than its a beat em up

>japanese game
>Every character has shitty hair
Looks neat
I remember river city being a very basic beat 'em up but still fun.
It had a rpg style system and "open world" didn't it?
who is localizing it?
From what info I can find it looks like Natsume themselves
I think there was shops you could enter, but i don't remember a lot sorry.
Well, first, the american version got some localization changes, kunio is now alex, for example.
Second, the game is actually pretty fun, the controls are not as stiff as other NES beat em ups and has some RPG elements. Enemies drop coins and you buy stuff around the town to improve your stats. The level design is non-linear, you have to explore the city in order to advance, this is pretty cool for a NES game.
Give it a try. The prequels were released for the Super Famicom and have a fan translation.
What the fuck did you just say
physical release or digital?
Physical
Play Asia has the English version up for preorder for 30 USD
I didn't know Josuke was in this game.
There was an interconnected map, full of shops and stuff you could visit to heal and raise your stats. It was pretty damn cool for its time. The Scott Pilgrim game for PS3/360 aped a lot of elements from it but unfortunately the map wasn't one of them.
I wish we got more of these. I love the "sprites over detailed backgrounds" style they've been doing.
...
You're wrong dude. The River City Ransom remake has been delayed in Japan indefinitely. It was supposed to be released in June but was delayed for quality issues.
The one being localized is River City: Tokyo Rumble which is actually the sequel to the Renegade remake they released for the 3DS.
My mistake. Is this one any good then?
I liked it. The kunio games are the only reasons I still own a Japanese 3DS.
They've been consistent with the game giving more of what the previous game did right and expanding upon it with new items and moves. The 3DS games are more like that Kunio tournament fighter for the famicom where they give you way more moves at your disposal.
Being a direct sequel to Renegade/the first kunio-kun game you won't miss much story wise. 3DS series pretty much starts fresh from Renegade.
I definitely recommend it though. Been awhile since I played it but I think it also had dodgeball mode like the previous kunio game had.
That's the one. It's technically 2nd in the kunio 3DS beat em up games right before River City Ransom. Although 3rd if you count the Riki Spin off game

Keeping a close eye on this. To be honest, the gameplay trailer has me pretty hyped. I need a 3DS Handheld so I can play this title too though.
Should hack a 3DS dude. Including the spin offs. There are 5 Kunio/River City beat em ups for the 3DS in Japan
>Captcha select all images with rivers
Played the absolute SHIT out of RCREx for the GBA.
duuuuuuuuuuu-
Oh okay well that's still pretty cool.
I hope it's successful and we get some more.
And then maybe Kunio for Smash.
>backed River City Underground
>tfw its never coming out
URAMESHI!!
So, you think you can just waltz in and prattle those fighting words.
Well I don't think you've got it, pal.
Interesting. I'd thought this series was dead. Again.
River City Ransom was sort of a side-scrolling brawler. However, unlike Final Fight or Streets of Rage, you were free to go in whatever direction you wanted. You could backtrack to the beginning if you wanted, or wander into side areas. Enemies popped up per screen, and you could run around in the (long) screens when fighting.
It also gave you a bunch of items, which you could pick up, carry between screens, or even toss around. You could also pick up enemies and toss them into buddies, or hit trash cans with baseball bats to send them flying, etc. The game played two players, so you could get a friend to join in (and occasionally hit them with stuff, too).
The game had a minor power-up system, where you could buy either one-use items or special moves for your inventory. Special moves were stuff like lighting-fast kicks, or throwing enemies like a torpedo across the full length of the stage.
It was a lot of fun, although it's quite repetitive to play today. It's worth checking out if you like those old-school brawlers and want something fun but different - especially if a friend is picking it up, too. It looks like this one is a bit different, with "super attacks" and leveling up from fights, but should be fairly similar.
its gonna suck that there is no true couch coop
that hurts the most with it being on a handheld
wish it was multiplat so everyone could enjoy
hey user!
not everything costs money =)
I mean...Alex and Ryan!
...
>So apparently River City Ransom ___ for 3ds is being localized and released in the west
Yeah I've heard that shit before
>Well, first, the american version got some localization changes, kunio is now alex, for example
If that happened today, people would scream "censorship" like retards.
Kunio in smash would be fun.
...
Kunio-kun for 5mash!
>comparing changing a name to flat out removing content.
Pro-censorship people are so dumb.
