So how did this handsome, kind, jew-nosed gentleman go from what he was in MGSV to the prick he was in MGS1?

So how did this handsome, kind, jew-nosed gentleman go from what he was in MGSV to the prick he was in MGS1?

Bad writing
MGSV is a spinoff
Accept it

When he got his memories back he stopped helping Venom and started working under Naked Snake again. Then when both BBs were defeated by Solid Snake he decided to pretend to work with Liquid so he could really work with Solidus, so that he could pretend to work with Solidus so he could pretend to work with the Patriots while pretending to be Liquid so he could help destroy the Patriots.

Why'd he hate Solid so much though? He seemed to like BB's other clones.

>When he got his memories back
Why did he have to hypnoforget The Truth in the first place?

I can't recall anything that implied Ocelot hated Solid. He seemed to admire him as an opponent in MGS1.

>to the prick he was in MGS1?

I don't see what's wrong with it, he became an old bitter man.

He was under some self-induced hypnosis.

To make it more believable I guess?

Pretty much this.

It's simple really.

.....

What was the point of Ocelot in TPP? Hell, the only time he fires his gun is once during the Hal interrogation.

Well he lies to you the whole game that you're Big Boss, and then tortures the shit out of people (half his backstory in 1 was his torture shit being extra villainous)

And to be fair, in game he takes that shit pretty far, they start off waterboarding huey imagine the shit he pulls with the recruits in the brig.

He was a much simpler character before 4

the worst thing kojima ever did to him was the whole liquid ocelot shit

He had no choice

>something something japanese voice actor who died

No fucking way, it was amazing in 2 when he was actually Liquid Ocelot. Because Liquid foiling the Patriot's plans and stealing Metal Gear Ray was the best scene in all of 2, one of the series's best moments.

4 absolutely ruins it with the hypnosis, like it purposefully ruins everything else in the series

Because Kojimbo literally doesn't give a shit about continuity and treats each game like a new movie he wants to write, with a tone that he wants to make

Anyone who plays Metal Gear should know this by now

We'll find out in the MG1 and MG2 remakes

MGSV is a spiritual remake of 2

He's the good cop to Kaz's bad cop. Venom may as well not even be present for any of the cutscenes.

MGS2 is all about finding out the character you thought was a blank slate actually had a rich backstory, and realizing the characters despite being in a game have free will and feelings despite being under the thumb of the game designers (Patriots). The whole point of the game is Raiden becoming his own person.

MGSV is about finding out the character you thought was a character with a rich backstory was actually a blank slate for the fact that he had been robbed of his free will and feeling. The game is about realizing you've been condemned to hell and robbed of your identity by not only the Patriots (again) but by your friend Big Boss

I recently played them all again in chronological order and it's literally this.
and I thought it made perfect sense

The problem was how meta 2 was. Ocelot knows he's in a video game, he's working for the Patriots.

>tfw don't get to play as ocelot in V's story mode

While I agree with you, I'm not sure how that has anything to do with Ocelot's role in TPP.

Nevermind, I realized it as soon as I hit post. The wording threw me off. Yes, now I see what you mean about the theme of V. What I was talking about in my previous post, though, was how in most cutscenes Venom is just an idle observer. The scene in the car towards the end of Chapter 1 is a perfect awkward example of this.

Like it or not, the reason he's such an awkward observer is because Big Boss did to you/him exactly what Kojima did to the player in 2, except this time your Frankenstein's fricking monster and robbed of your identity (which is just about the full extent of skull face's backstory as well lmao).

THE PHANTOM PAIN

Just like Raiden it's implied Venom is becoming his own character towards the end of the game

There was a lot of theories, but is there any explanations on how Venom became the generic villain he was during the time between 1985-1995?

During the funeral scene(and everything after that), I have a really hard time believing Venom could be the same asshole you see in Metal Gear.

Fuck Big Boss though

In MGS 1 whenever they talk about Big Boss they call him "the legendary mercenary". All those people only knew the legendary mercenary during 1980s-95 (Grey fox, sniper wolf both met him in that time, as did Liquid and Mantis)

Effectively, Venom is the legendary mercenary half to the story and the "Big Boss" who betrays you in TPP is the evil one. Why Venom stays loyal to him is anyone's guess, likely due to the fact that he had no other choice than be quietly executed and disposed of.
