Japanese description:

>When Raichu was first brought to Alola by vacationers, people were charmed with how they mimicked surfers by riding the waves using their tails. They were soon welcomed as favorite surfing partners by the locals.
>Raichu quickly became adept at sensing when the best waves would roll in, which, over time, led to the pokemon developing strong psychic powers.

English description:

>Even Pokémon researchers don’t know why Raichu’s form changed in the Alola region. The people of Alola seem unconcerned by the question. Their guess: maybe it ate too many sweet and fluffy round pancakes!

Defend localization. I fucking dare you.

it's just a game user it's funny i don't want actual information when i play games i jus wanna relax anbd have fun xD

Jesus christ that's bad

The game isn't even out yet.

>Defend localization. I fucking dare you.
I'm often a localization apologist and even I would never think of defending modern Nintendo.

Source? That's unbelievable.

Wait a minute...is there going to be Alola Forms for its pre-evolution, same with the other that been confirmed?

Tpci localizes it not nintendo

Is it because americans are stupider or something? That must be it.

>Makes alolan raichu look cool in the Japanese description
>Goes LOLIDUNNO in American descirption
Return to roots, become seppuku

we're not sure yet. Sandshrew and Vulpix would suggest that's the case, but Exeggutor suggests it doesn't have to be that way.

NoA is a cancer

>letting an electric pokemon near a body of water

And Atlus localized #FE. Whatever Nintendo touches even tangentially turns out like this.

>Localisation memes have hit pokémon

I have zero regrets of hacking my 3ds.

>Their guess: maybe it ate too many sweet and fluffy round pancakes!
I was with you up until you started this bit. Now I think it's bullshit.

Japanese version of the trailer shows a normal Pikachu evolving into Alola Raichu.

pokemon-sunmoon.com/en-us/pokemon/alolan-raichu/

Source OP, that's too unbelievable.

>Defend localization. I fucking dare you.

i think a lot of modern localization teams are doing a good job

but nobody is trying to defend modern Nintendo anymore. completely off the rails

LOL

It IS bullshit, but not for the reasons you think it is.

Japanese trailer shows a regular Pikachu so no.
Same case with Exeggcute.

We haven't even seen the Pokedex entries yet. Stop bullshitting.

>Localise it for Amerilards
>make it about food
I don't see the issue, they've made it more appealing to the intended target market.

And Cubone.

Pokemon can have Alolan lines, or Alolan evolutions. Exeggcute doesn't have an Alolan form because it's growth/evolution is dependent on region; on the other hand Vulpix/Sandshrew's lines live in a new environment so the entire line is different.

>Alola is based on Hawaii
>Kanto is based on a region in Japan
>Pancakes

I think we all know what this means

...

I can't really defend localization because it's usually unnecessary. Just do the fucking translation, maybe adjust the grammar to flow better. Don't make your own fanfiction shit up.

NUKE THEM

Must Alola Raichu be so ugly? I hate how it's so rounded. Tail doesn't really resemble a lightning bolt much anymore.

That's actually disappointing for Aloha Persian/Cubone

Lanturn works out pretty well

Did the Japanese description actually say that? I'm not defending the English website but something about your description seems off. I was assuming they were intentionally keeping Alola Raichu's origins a secret for whatever reason. If anything I thought the Japanese trailers and whatnot were more vague.

Anyone know if you can have both the new versions and the original versions? If so, are they different Pokedex entries?

no, they're different forms. Like Rotom or Wormadam.

You can get both forms by trading from past games.

I kind of agree. Its starting to look a bitlike politoed.

There most likely will be an Alolan Persian, though. Alolan forms are either parallel or branching; Alola!Meowth evolves into Alola!Persian, but Original!Cubone evolves into Alola!Marowak. It'd make no sense to go from Alola Meowth to regular Persian.

I'm not going to lie, I thought OP made the English description up.
That's just fucking awful.

Localizations are generally fine for every other company, but modern Nintendo is shit at it. Everyone already knows NoA hit their head after Iwata's passing and went full retard.

TODAY AIN'T YA DAY, PANCAKES

I figure that so long as an Alola form still has one type in common with the original, then the pre-evos will likely stay the same. For example, there will probably be an Alolan form for Cubone, since a Ground-type pokemon isn't just going to morph into Fire/Ghost-type.

Dear god.
For how long have pokedex entires- not just height/weight but also descriptions- been complete and utter garbage?

RIDE THAT SURF

Or Square, when it comes to Dragon Quest.

>it's a "Sup Forums falls for lazy bait" episode

YEAH, NEXT TIME EAT A SALAD

That's not the real description, guys

The new forms have been great. Really excited for more reveals and I hope other gets besides 1 get some representation as well.

>Nintendo has been changing the names of 95% of the franchise's characters for the sake of stupid puns since day one.
>This is fine.
>Change a Pokedex entry that no one is ever going to look at ever again after the first time.
>This is not fine.

>quickly became adept at sensing when the best waves would roll in, which, over time, led to the pokemon developing strong psychic powers.

That's still the stupidest reason for getting mental powers.

What do either of those things have to do with each other?

There's a big difference between changing Fushinigane to Bulbasaur and changing its lore entry to suggest the bulb on its back might be made of meat.

To be honest I see this as Electric-Fairy than Electric-Psyhic.

>Japanese description
>inaccurate depiction of evolution, though par for the course in this franchise
>English description
>hurr we don't know jack shit whatever LOL
You can't really defend either one but English is still the worst of the two.

Pokemon let's you choose language anyway.

pokemon.co.jp/ex/sun_moon/
Fuck my suspicions were right. The japanese website didn't even update for this trailer. I knew something was off. The description was overly elaborate and sounded fanfictiony. That and it's too close to what Puka is. I think they purposely wanted to keep it a secret since it has to do with Pikachu.

God damnit.

What? Is that true? The bulb is made of meat?

That's not the japanese description. They haven't even posted the new forms on the website yet

No, they're both tampering with the creator's vision for the games. Neither is acceptable.

No, it's made of pancakes

>electric / psychic

what a pointless typing combination, all it gets is more shitty weaknesses

My question is, why would Nintendo BOTHER to change the description in the English version? The translation of the Japanese description works perfectly well, why scrap that for what is essentially a "durr, no one knows!" cop-out description?

...

Eat your pea, Professor.

Because that's not the Japanese description, you retard.

because these games are marketed to american children not manchildren who need to grow up u nerd xD

This looks exactly like surfing pikachu using surf move on Pokemon Colosseum

...

So why is it people like to reply before reading the whole thread or fact checking at least? Do people just enjoy making fools of themselves?

Yes.

>The one I thought was fake is real
>The one I thought was real is fake

Wow. So many people THIS desperate to shit on Nintendo. Fucking check the facts first before shitposting

Pokemon Stadium, I mean
youtu.be/vixITY2wDBQ

It's a reference to Puka, from the anime.

Or at least I like to believe it is.

most people just sit on page zero, quick replying to whatever comes up

What would you name it then? "Oddplantbulb"? Even the Japanese name is a pun.

WHY IS PRIVATE PYLE OUT OF HIS BUNK AFTER LIGHTS OUT
WHY IS PRIVATE PYLE HOLDING THAT WEAPON
WHY AREN'T YOU STOMPING PRIVATE PYLE'S GUTS OUT

...

THANK YOU WESLEY

Goddamn, that explains everything.
No wonder why I always think of buttered pancakes with syrup when looking at this thing

Obviously you name it "Fushigidane". English kids will know what that is right? Hey, maybe they'll think the names are super cool and buy into it. He's being absurd. The names are a less silly part of localization. Pikachu and co are exceptions and not the rule.

kek

>make some shit up for bait
>people fall head over heels for it

It's a dark time for Sup Forums

There's a difference between localizing and translating. My opinion is that localization is unnecessary.

>go to the japanese page of alolan raichu
>google translate is enough to see that there's nothing lost in translation
>as usual v is making shit up
Why am I not surprised...

Sorry OP, but you are wrong!!!

it worked though ;3

cite your sources

It's still clearly a lightning bolt, but the edges have been rounded down to make it more like a surfboard.

>Team skull nigger edit
>gay sex with hats on

>Still supporting Cancertendo

You deserve all the censorship and poor localization you get.

>Gay sex with hats
>How to take a screenshot
Good man.

>male popplio rule 34
>how to take a screenshot
>gay sex with hats on
>team skull nigger edit
I'm quite sure this was intentional.

>Googled "gay sex with hats on" instead of finding the actual video

You fucking pussy. You don't deserve the (You)s.

Japanese localization
>meme description
English localization
>Actually pokemon related

>Their guess: maybe it ate too many sweet and fluffy round pancakes!

What the fuck does this even mean

I can't

See , you dumbfuck.

>come out sweet musk and rub the electrical ball
