Stuff usually goes up on the eShop servers a couple days before it's actually available
There's a program for your 3DS if you have CFW that lets you directly download shit off the eShop servers by faking a download request

While many PS1 devs decided to fill all this new disc space with pre-rendered cutscenes, DQ7's devs decided to fill it with a shitton of GAME. Plus the class system is kinda grindy since it's based on number of battles fought as that class and not something like job points in Final Fantasy games from around the same.

That being said, the game does have big pacing issues and tends to meander a lot. The remake apparently fixes a lot of that.

Fucking retarded translators fucking up what was a perfectly usable original translation just to be 'different'. Already sounds like another disaster on line with all mainline DQ translations since 8.

Might not be the translators' fault. Could be SE, could be the localizers (if indeed the localizers and translators are separate, sometimes they are, but that isn't the case with Plus Alpha). At least from what we've seen of the dialogue, it isn't choked with accents.

Can someone please please please explain to me why people are so excited for the DQ7 remake but barely every talked about the Playstation original? What will the new version gave that the original doesn't other than the new graphics? The character sprites on the original were solid.

Dq 7 and 8 look cool but I have never played a dq game before. What are the essentials to play?

I'd personally say playing DQ1-3. 1-2 haven't aged well but you can beat them both in one sitting. I beat 1 in like 4-5 hours.

II is kinda shit and IX isn't very good played alone, though.

DQ7 was fugly for it's time (ignoring the sprites, the polygons used for everything else were hideous and tended to glitch out and warp often due to the PS1's lack of a Z buffer, the game had a deserved reputation for being meandering and losing it's way often just to pad the game out, the job system was a major fucking pain in the ass with a large amount of them being near useless weaker versions of other jobs (and if you didn't read up on it you wouldn't know it until it was too late).

It was also an obscure release since the DQ brand was dead on consoles outside of Japan since DQIV on the NES waaaay back in the early 90s and the average shmuck turned their noses up at anything 2D. I barely remember seeing any copies in stores and only got mine from a video store that sold their copy due to nobody but me renting it.

The absolute BIGGEST FUCKING BLUNDER of the original was that the game didn't let you get into your first battle (against a few slimes) for almost 40+ minutes after starting the game, and didn't let you actually play properly until a while after that. It turned a lot of people off and even almost made me stop playing because the very beginning of the game is extremely boring. Couple that with the hideous graphics and it was a hard sell.

Because square enix doesn't make any money if people play the original. Better to pretend it doesn't exist to increase the sales of the 3ds version, especially because a lot of people (myself included) didn't like the ps1 version very much.
