Surprise Wednesday thread LAST TIME >Shinon rejoined the party >Ike began his ascent to true invincibility >Rolf lost his brother to the Daein scum allying with subhumans
What's going on? >I'm playing through Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, taking inputs from you >I'll be asking for input on who gets used, who gets stat items, etc.
>Which game is this? this is Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, the first (and only) fire emblem game released on the Nintendo Gamecube. >I'm new to Fire Emblem. What's a good game to start with? Fire emblem: The Blazing sword(aka Fire Emblem in the USA) is a fantastic starting point, featuring a comprehensive tutorial. Alternatively, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones also has a briefer tutorial and is all around easier. >I heard this series is just shitty waifu pandering that's Awakening and Fates. >what does each stat do? HP-health. lose it all and your unit dies(permanently) STR- how much damage you do with physical attacks. this is augmented by your enemy's DEF and your own weapon's MT. In Path of Radiance, STR functions similarly to how CON did in older games, determining how much you're burdened by your weapons. MAG - how much damage you do with magic tomes, staves, or magic weapons. This is augmented by your enemy's RES. SKL- your chance to hit with attacks, as well as score crits SPD- if your SPD is high enough, you'll be able to double-attack enemies, also affects your chance to avoid enemy attacks. LUK-affects accuracy and avoidability, and reduces enemy crit chance. DEF-affects defense against physical attacks RES-affects defense against magical attacks CON- unit's weight. this affects who they can rescue or be rescued by, as well as whether or not they can shove or be shoved by a unit. >Why are you so shitty? I'm impatient. >Are you playing Radiant Dawn next? no. tacthack user posted a demo for me, I'll be playing that first--THEN I'll be playing RD.
Game Over/Reset count: 3 Currently Dead: Jill- smote by utter perfection Oscar - he couldn't dodge
Chase Jenkins
I missed my bus, so no yugioh tonight.
Jonathan Allen
yummy FE cussing
Adam Sanders
;_;
Ethan Diaz
Oh, kilvas betrayed us... again.
Jaxon Adams
Wait what's that you say? Naesala and the Kilvas betrayed us? Again?
Saw that you somehow managed to get best girl Jill to die.
Nicholas Clark
Oscar Jill and [Marcia]
James Hughes
Go for it, wotn get too much use out of the personal skill scroll right now anyway
William Young
>[Marcia]? Didn't recruit or she died as an NPC?
But in other words not the worst I guess. I really need to replay this game at some point. One of my favourites.
Caleb Green
Why the fuck would you attack a magic boss with Jill? How does Oscar even die?
Austin Smith
Because the game throws so many melee units at you you forget most of your great units have shit RES or you get hit by a "cheating" siege tome
Asher Wright
He just left Jill in range of Oliver accidentally.
And Oscar was very underleveled or something, I can't remember
Caleb Sullivan
Should I give Shade to Rolf?
recruited her, she died on her recruitment chapter, thread voted to restart solely to recruit Makalov.
she's now lost to time.
I fucked up my MOV with jill trying to kill the halberdier with Adept. I miscounted how much she could canto though, and she ended the turn in range of oliver.
oscar took some siege magic hits and I accidentally left him in range 2 of a javelin.
Samuel Anderson
How do you accidentally leave someone in range of a boss unit that doesn't move?
Jackson Roberts
see
Alexander Nguyen
>I missed my bus Damnit, Nigger. You're a fuck up
David Phillips
Nah
I don't see shade being usefull since I don't see Rolf being useful this run
Give it to astrid igf you can
Nicholas Powell
to be fair, they just switched to the fall bus schedules this week it seems, and I just found out today.
astrid's been benched because she's developed terribly. rolf is actually pretty good.
James Jenkins
How's Rolf stack up to shinon?
Adrian Stewart
rolf completely outclasses him.
Ethan Taylor
>completely >4 mag vs 6 mag Bench Rolf and hack in that Bright Bow.
Is there any use for mag on an Archer/Sniper otherwise?
Tyler Mitchell
>Shinon is only good in RD Huh
Christopher Rodriguez
>she's developed terribly
What a shame.
Kevin Ross
Damn, there goes the dream
Gavin Morales
good death to the traitorous shinnon
Easton Martinez
Should I give any skills to anyone else? You can see what I have here. none at all
that's why RNG is a thing.
Noah Nguyen
RNG was a mistake t b h
Nathaniel Peterson
>the thing the series has been doing for over a decade was a mistake Yeah, okay
Jaxon Phillips
>wanting a predictable, solvable game
Lucas Peterson
alright, I'm just moving forward because I think my thread pop is going to be quieter today since I don't usually do wednesday threads.
I'm going to cap off volke's levels, and feed the rest into neph so she can replace oscar. Any objections?
Aiden Bennett
>wanting a predictable, solvable game Yeah because FE is such an unpredictable and difficult game.
Justin Richardson
You need to use Neph more. Fuck what anyone else says. Her spear skill is pitiful.
Owen Lee
did YOU see this coming?
Grayson Bennett
dat feeling when I got +1 all across the board for Rhys of all people in Radiant Dawn
what the fuck is the chance of that happening
Landon Roberts
I never said that. I'm saying that removing RNG in every aspect would make the game entirely predictable and solvable. You could follow a guide to the letter and beat the game every time.
Joseph Watson
>You could follow a guide to the letter and beat the game every time. You already can. Actually you can play like a complete retard and beat the game every time.
Ryder Sanders
My threads are proof of that.
Brody White
At least you admit it.
On another note, do you know where you found the ROM for this game? I just downloaded Dolphin and wanted to play it.
Christopher Brown
That reminds me of my very first (emulated) FE7 run. It was my first time playing Fire Emblem and I was pretty young. So I didn't get the concept of "You should probably not let everyone die". I think the only SRPG I'd played at that point was FFTA, which obviously has no permadeath.
Long story short, almost everyone died. Last level I only remember having Pent and Louise besides the required units. Maybe Renault but I know he died there or on the map before. I think Pent also died on the Dragon. Thank god for Athos existing.
Jaxon Bell
just google 'path of radiance iso'
I grabbed the first link I found.
Jaxson Carter
my first time playing, my only units at endgame were muarim, ike, kieran, oscar...and I think tormod. Maybe mordecai.
wrong folder.
Carter Hall
When do we get Geoffrey? I heard he's alright.
Anthony Green
geoffrey is a cav in PoR. of course he's decent.
but he's basically the 'oh fuck, everyone is dead what do I do now?' unit.
Jayden Lewis
Sounds good to me. You DID lose two lance users, after all.
Adam Collins
>geoffrey is a cav in PoR. of course he's decent.
Too bad that didn't save Oscar.
Jonathan Cooper
geoffrey uses swords and bows iirc.
Julian Kelly
Lances and Bows
Cameron White
No he uses lances and bows.
Luke Jenkins
>You already can No, you necessarily can't, especially on harder difficulties. If the RNG fucks you one, just once, you can't use the same strategy every time. So unless you know a magic way to always have 100% hit, 0% crit for both you and the enemy, and always get the same level-ups, you can't perform the exact same moves as a guide and get the same results. >Actually you can play like a complete retard and beat the game every time >the game If we're talking about PoR, yeah, but even in this playthrough we saw Nigger getting screwed by a crit. Could RNG be implemented better? Yes. But removing RNG would lead to a boring, shit game.
Cameron Ross
Cavs in PoR are overrated. PoR has a ton of maps with swamps, forests, and sand, where being a cav actually harms your movement.
Josiah Adams
It was a shitpost, holy fuck. Get yourself checked for autism.
Dylan Ramirez
>Tons of maps with sand 1
>Maps with Swamps Just 17
>Forests Just that one Gallia stage and 17
RD is the one that actively fucks over cavs.
John Clark
>If the RNG fucks you one, just once, you can't use the same strategy every time You can beat the games without growths you moron.
Noah Thomas
I think you mixed up Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance
Parker Ward
sure you dont mean RD there user? PoR is horse emblem for a number of reasons
Chase Gonzalez
>swamps, forests, and sand 1 stage with sand 1 4-part stage with swamps(that doesn't even limit progression, just direction) no stages with forests that limit your progression.
cavs are HILARIOUSLY op in 9. it's 10 that they get shafted with actual difficulty and maps that limit them. they also have lower caps.
Lucas Foster
the fuck nigger you said you weren't playing tonight. NOW I GOTTA RESCHEDULE MY SHIT FUCK YOU
Just kidding good to see you m8
Julian Young
D-Devdan's still good, right guys?
Jaxson Jones
>Horse Emblem >Not Genealogy
Enjoy that 5 movement
Alexander Lewis
so here's a question: do I go for the Knight ring?
I wasn't planning to play tonight.
Jaxson Moore
No, but we're going to make OP take Devdan over Nephenee every time of course, especially after he dumped all that BEXP into her.
Adrian Reed
Go for it
Caleb Diaz
Do it.
Nathaniel Kelly
>1 stage with sand There are two. Ch 25 also gimps cav mobility.
>1 4-part stage with swamps(that doesn't even limit progression, just direction Yeah and it turns out the quickest way is through the swamp.
>no stages with forests that limit your progression. If you go the long way.
Horse emblem is fine if you want to take your time killing everything. But it's not the best way to play this game.
Luis Morgan
Yes, but can you always assure 100% hit, 0% crit for both you and the enemy, and 0% avoid in some corner cases? Otherwise, the game is unsolvable.
Here's a random example I found youtu.be/Sr6T8yCsvIg?t=2m27s If Stefan had not crit'd there, the player would have to adopt a different strategy. Again, I'm not saying any FE game is impossibly difficult. I'm saying that RNG makes FEs not trivial.
Connor Turner
No, kill everyone.
Logan Cox
Any party changes? >it's not the best way no, that's just cheesing every stage with marcia+jill.
Ryan Wilson
The only major desert stage in 9 is the one with Stefan. 25 isn't sand its a different terrain type.
Besides the best team in 9 for LTC is still comprised almost entirely of horses + flying units anyway.
Nathaniel Peterson
Start it
Josiah Hill
Begin
David Adams
Drop Nephenee for Tanish
Landon Gonzalez
Bring Oscar so you can triangle attack. Oh wait.
Joseph Bennett
Go for it
Hunter Lopez
What the fuck even is your point? The only way to "solve" a game is if you can assure 100% hit, 0% crit? You became way to invested in "winning" an internet argument that you started randomly spewing shit and have no fucking idea what you are even talking about anymore.
Levi Perry
...
Joshua Roberts
>25 isn't sand its a different terrain type. It's terrain that slows cavs.
>Besides the best team in 9 for LTC is still comprised almost entirely of horses + flying units anyway. No most cavs don't get used.
Dominic Morris
alright, let's do this! a solved game is a way to guarantee wins no matter what happens. because of the inherent RNG nature of FE, it is impossible to completely Solve it.
tic tac toe is Solved, because you can guarantee a draw every game if you know how.
mario bros is Solved, because you can jump at certain spots and guarantee not being hit and clearing every stage.
Carson Rodriguez
Clearly, we aren't using the same terminology. But that's okay, user, I just wanted you to understand that your idea is dumb. Also Nigger explained it well.
Mason Miller
Speaking with experience, Shinon scales well and they will both be good - even against Ashchnardhdrdh.
Nathaniel Turner
The few stages that cavs have a penalty still don't outweigh them having a huge advantage over a lot of characters for the rest of the game.
Jack Green
Is Homasa related to Stefan?
Chase Jackson
>The few stages that cavs have a penalty still don't outweigh them having a huge advantage over a lot of characters for the rest of the game. Cavs don't have a huge advantage. It's the opposite. Cavs can't be rescued and cavs can't be shoved. Fliers and foot units dominate LTC.
Ryan Foster
Gotta love Dark Stefan
Ryan Peterson
alright, so this stage has 2 problems to it.
The first is the 3 ballistae, which will present a problem to my squishy healers and subhuman fliers.
the second, more pressing problem is Naesala, and to a lesser extent, the raven subhumans.
If you manage to get rid of naesala without killing ANY crows, you get an item that gives any unit Canto.
Considering I have no jill, though, this might be a bit difficult. This is, however, why I fielded both Janaff and Reyson. I need to bait Naesala, then talk to him with Janaff, THEN put reyson in range of him.
Isaiah Gray
This, Shinon has much better growths
Samuel Lopez
>a solved game is a way to guarantee wins no matter what happens. because of the inherent RNG nature of FE, it is impossible to completely Solve it. You can beat FE games without growths you imbecile. Having "bad" growths won't stop good players from "winning."
Dominic Diaz
Kill Naesala with Rolf.
Xavier Howard
oh yeah, Shinon has higher growths than rolf, but I personally prefer the shota due to better availability.
You can beat FE games without growths you imbecile. Having "bad" growths won't stop good players from "winning."
this is true, but there is no one strategy that ALWAYS works EVERY SINGLE TIME without fail. you can always possibly get fucked by a crit or an unlucky miss.
FE cannot be solved because there is an element of chance
David Long
>FE cannot be solved because there is an element of chance You don't understand how FE RNG works.
James Ortiz
>growths are the only place where RNG is relevant >winning is the same thing as solvable Are you even reading the posts you reply to?
Brody Barnes
>but there is no one strategy that always works every single time
It's called Path of Radiance and deploy Ike.
Carson Price
Yes foot units can be shoved but how many of them actually have good enough combat/utility to warrant bringing one over say Titania/Oscar/Kieran?
