Were you not around for NMS? Then again, only retards couldnt see that coming from the first trailer.

Because it fucked up everything, was super low budget to the point that the cut corners were actively detrimental to the game, and produced a cast and story even shittier than 4's.

I had a 360 last gen and it just seemed like there were always a few great games coming out every year. I have a PS4 this gen and even though its already been out for three years they only really good games I can name for the system are bloodborne and Witcher 3 and nothing in the near future has me all that excited.

Everything started going downhill with the introduction of trascendence system and game getting balanced around that, both for PvE and PvP.

That game market has some of the worst restrictions to players ever made in the history of videogames but getting the 1m silvers for buy a token it's a matter of few hours of farming at low levels too

It's a good game but it's mechanically inferior to most of the games posted there.

Going on sale for less than 3$ a dozen or so times does that.

No Man's Sky is actually a playable game though.
It's nowhere near expectations but you can have a good 10 or so hours of exploring and the novelty is there for a short while. You soon see the limitations and the game falls apart.

Star Ocean 5 never has this. From the first moment you start the game and see how stupid the plot is and how nothing the combat system is you drop all hope right there. I dropped SO5 way before I dropped NMS.
Both are disappointing sure but SO5 is a much worse game.

It almost entirely copied MvC mechanics, by far the most popular "anime" style fighting game.

To be fair, SG has gone on sale for like less than $5 tons of times, and even when it's not on sale it's cheaper than those other games.

Nothing against SG but of course it's going to sell better when it's dirt cheap.

No they havn't but it has been confirmed there are like 2 guys working on iToS and majority of the staff and dev team moved to Wolfknight project going in alpha soon

They aren't really developing anything.
Their patches are straight copy paste from the korean version, which result in new bugs every week sometimes gamebreaking too and the appears of korean runes somewhere to just saying how much they care.
For 2 weeks after rank8 release several classes were unplayable because their skills were causing random channel/player crashing, they havn't fixed all of them yet.

Easily Dark Souls 3 for me.

I never had any hope NMS would be anything than a clusterfuck full of e-drama, it delivered.

So what's Star Ocean about? Every single thing I encountered imply the games are fantasy JRPG but the name sounds like space opera.

They're science fantasy.
1 is about a planet of monkey people who get infected with an alien virus, humans visit from space and you team up with them to travel to your planet's past to save it.
2 is about the son of the human captain in the first game who gets transported to an undeveloped planet and wrapped up in a myth of the hero of light while trying to find a way home. You can choose the undeveloped planet heroine as your main character too but no one does that.
3 is about some jackass called Fayt Leingod who goes to a vacation planet which gets attacked by space terrorists and he then spends 90% of the game wandering around on an undeveloped planet. I don't remember much of 3's plot outside of the stupid twist.
4 is a prequel about EDGE MAVERICK who is on an expedition to find inhabitable planets for humans to migrate to at the beginning of the series' space exploration timeline, and he visits several planets while dealing with evil aliens who want to rule the universe.
5 is about some country bumpkin on an undeveloped planet who spends the entire game wandering from town to town and saving a loli from evil aliens. This is not a summary, this is the entire plot.

Generally speaking 1 and 5 have the least sci-fi focus, while 2 and 4 have the most. 3 is in the middle.
