>lied about 4 gig RAM in 970 (3.5 gigs) >used Gameworks to hinder performance in AMD cards with unnecessary tessellation >will not support async compute and refuses to update older cards >1070/1080 have tendency to catch fire due to cheap manufacturing >Shadowplay sells your information to third parties and is mandatory for drivers
Why do people continue to trust and defend Nvidia?
>Shadowplay sells your information to third parties and is mandatory for drivers You mean geforce "experience", and that's also wrong.
Ian Lee
Don't have too many positive things to say about nvidia but at least the hardware tends to be really good.
Joshua Price
>the 970 still performed better than its counterpart when it came out >only retards use GFE >Nvidia gpus are actually way safer and hae overall much better drivers support, with some exceptions of course >Nvidia has released the entire generation of new gpus, while AMD currently has only a lower midrange gpu on the market
Seriously, what is AMD talking about? A 490 made with 2xPolaris? Where is Vega?
Nothing to counter a 1070, 1080 and TitanX P. Their best gpu, the 480, barely matches the 1060, sometimes. I still wonder how the hell is AMD still business...
Hunter Murphy
>lied about 4 gig RAM in 970 (3.5 gigs) It has 4 gigs, half a gig of it was slow. It was settled in a class action lawsuit.
>used Gameworks to hinder performance in AMD cards with unnecessary tessellation Turn tessellation off.
>will not support async compute and refuses to update older cards Async compute is for AMD GPUs. Nvidia GPUs don't need it.
>1070/1080 have tendency to catch fire due to cheap manufacturing Hyperbole.
>Shadowplay sells your information to third parties and is mandatory for drivers Patently untrue.
Aiden Martinez
What? I disabled that on startup and I uninstslled GeForce experience.
Kevin Miller
Did you mean to reply to somebody else?
Justin Ross
The only important thing is graphics. Nvidia does good graphics, AMD doesn't, and that's why I bought a 1080.
Oliver Ross
>Shadowplay sells your information to third parties and is mandatory for drivers
it's not mandatory and you can still use old versions of it if you just don't update it, i bet you upgraded to windows 10 too.
Nathaniel Martin
It was one manufacturer. Not the actual Nvidia designed cards that had the flame issues.
Nathan Fisher
Really shame about AMD drivers. It gives too many problem in older games and too few option to play with.
Jaxon Foster
>1070/1080 have tendency to catch fire due to cheap manufacturing was only EVGA and it's easily fixed with a thermal pad
David Gonzalez
>>lied about 4 gig RAM in 970 (3.5 gigs) old news, go home dad. >>used Gameworks to hinder performance in AMD cards with unnecessary tessellation have you ever heard of a thing called graphic settings?
Luis Johnson
>1070/1080 have tendency to catch fire due to cheap manufacturing Only if you got an EVGA card, lmao
I'll take 10/10 customer service over better QA any day though
Isaiah Wright
I'm sorry, why am I supposed to care that the NSA watches my VR Honey Select sessions?
Brody Gutierrez
>used Gameworks to hinder performance in AMD cards with unnecessary tessellation fucking LMAO
just because your shitty AMD cards can't handle basic tessellation doesn't mean it's some jewish plot
youre card just fucking sucks
Joseph Scott
>Their best GPU >The 480 What are the Fury, Nano, Fury X, and Pro Duo The Fury X soundly beats the 1060 and 480 and sometimes beats the 1070.
Ethan Hall
Still better than your niggerstation 4 with a single game.
Brayden Miller
so you're saying their absolute BEST GPU that's the top of the line ALMOST beats the similarly priced 1070? lmao
Adrian Campbell
AMD targets the majority of gamers who use cards between the 1050 and 1070. They offer similar performance to Nvidia but at a lower price.
Nolan Ortiz
>(((similar performance))) Not with those drivers, they don't.
Grayson Powell
GoyimWorks was more about obsoleting Kepler and Fermi than hurting AMD, though that was definitely still part of it.
> replace 3.5G transistor 760/770 with 2.9G transistor 950/960 > replace 7.1G transistor 780/Titan with 5.2G transistor 970/980 > less ALU TFLOPs, less bandwidth, but more tessellation and ROPs! > every new AAA title using shit tons of tiny triangles that choke tessellators and ROPs of old cards
Maxwell/TWIMTBP was a scam to sell people cheaper GPUs at higher prices by creating the illusion that they were more efficient at doing something worthwhile.
Christopher Jones
Well yeah, it's a year old and on a 4 year old process. And it's cheaper than a 1070. And the Fury non-X is pretty much the best bargain in GPUs today actually.
William Hughes
>cheaper than a 1070 1070s were going for the same price about two days ago >best bargain Except half of the games you play will run like shit due to trash drivers.
Jaxson Gonzalez
So we now count also old generation gpus? Holy shit, AMD shills have no shame.
This was never true, not when it was ATI, not now. Also, they currently have no gpu in line up that even gets close to a 1070, while Nvidia released its gpus 6 months ago. AMD is talking about a fuckin dual gpu piece of garbage, still Polaris ofc. This is beyond depressing.
Colton Hughes
>>lied about 4 gig RAM in 970 (3.5 gigs) Pretty much true, though it does have 4GB VRAM, access to the last 0.5GB is just slow as fuck >>used Gameworks to hinder performance in AMD cards with unnecessary tessellation Excessive tessellation is true, sure. Saying that they've done it just to fuck AMD is pure speculation, but fairly plausible still >>will not support async compute and refuses to update older cards Pascal benefits from async /1080 have tendency to catch fire due to cheap manufacturing EVGA cards, which NVIDIA themselves didn't even design. It wasn't the GPU which NVIDIA made anyway, but rather EVGA deciding that VRMs didn't need cooling >>Shadowplay sells your information to third parties and is mandatory for drivers GFE in its entirety is completely optional, this is completely false. The driver works just fine without it.
Basically, NVIDIA are scumbags and AMD have apparently become incompetent. Welcome to the graphics card market, enjoy your stay.
Landon Cox
That's a big frog
Angel Barnes
>Why do people continue to trust and defend Nvidia? They have one of the best marketing teams in the world
Jace Jackson
Is this the ultimate AMDfriend reply? The only reason we're failing in every single segment is that evil Nvidia has better marketing! It can't be because lately it takes us 9 months to match our competitors performance at higher wattage, right? Or because our compute support for professional markets is awful compared to this other company that also sells GPU's, right?
Thomas Collins
AMD's drivers are pretty good these days desu
Tyler Powell
(((Nvidia))) are scumbags, but (((AMD))) has been shitting the bed hard on the GPU market both in terms of hardware and software
I would rather pay an extra hundred bucks to (((Nvidia))) than have to deal with my games being fucking broken with visual artifacts everywhere
I mean, I applaud (((AMD))) for trying when (((Nvidia))) has a damn near monopoly (hardware and marketing) on the GPU market, but they aren't trying hard enough.
Sebastian Sullivan
we can argue about gaming hardware till the cows come home
Adrian Allen
I don't really care, I switch between both Nvidia and AMD when it comes to GPUs
Easton Cox
Actually Pascal has lower FPS when using Async because it's software emulated and doesn't have hardware support for it.
Tyler Brown
Are they?
The absolute shit performance on rainbow six siege made me ragequit AMD for fucking good, unless nvidia seriously shits the bed at some point, which I really doubt because they're winning the race hard.
Blake Hall
>shows a Maxwell benchmark of an unknown version Grade A arguments there.
Hudson King
DELETE THIS!!!!!!
Dominic Sanchez
First google image result friend, go look at any of the other hundred benchmarks showcasing this. Besides hardware support can't be added in an update so your argument is retarded.
Caleb Sanchez
Pascal does actually have partial async support unlike Maxwell.
Pascal has an async thread scheduler even if the shaders themselves are not async. So performance in async games should actually go up. Not as much as AMD, but something.
Camden Wright
>argument is retarded You haven't presented any argument. You have posted an unrelated image of a benchmark of Maxwell cards when talking about Pascal, then you vomited some conjecture straight out of r/AMD.
Caleb Thompson
>r/AMD
isn't it r/AyyMD?
Adam Collins
I really don't get why people won't accept this. Nvidia has been delving into some really terrible business practices over the last few years, but they only get away with it because AMD has been such complete and utter shit for the same time period. ATI and AMD shortly following the buyout managed to get over 50% of the market at one point by releasing good GPUs, that performed very well for the price, and didn't have crippling hardware and software issues. Now I'll give them that pricing was a bit out of their control, the crypto-currency craze inflated their GPU prices for a long time. But that shit is dead and buried now, there was no reason for the 480x to have its price inflated so high over MSRP.
Anthony Turner
That's the le ebin memes one, the actual place for insane people is r/AMD.
Brandon Lopez
>It has 4 gigs, half a gig of it was slow. It was settled in a class action lawsuit.
And that doesn't make it right that they lied to us in the first place. It was advertised as 4gb of GDDR5, not 3.5gb of gddr and .5gb of slow ass shit.
> >used Gameworks to hinder performance in AMD cards with unnecessary tessellation
Not only amd cards were hindered, nividia older cards were fucked over as well and there's no way to turn off tessellation for those.
> Async compute is for AMD GPUs. Nvidia GPUs don't need it.
Which is bullshit because Nvidia was the one who pushed for this back then. Then suddenly there was no async compute at all on their newer cards when games actually use it.
Lucas Harris
>390 almost as fast as 980 >Fury X faster than 980ti How is this bad exactly?
Ethan Butler
>no way to turn off tessellation for those. Start game. Go to graphics settings. Change tesselation slider/value in dropbox. Done.
Bentley Howard
Yep, Nvidia is a scummy company.
Too bad AMD is an incompetent company.
Leo Perez
How to we fix AMD?
Brody Russell
You can also force off Tesselation in the GPU settings if the game doesn't give you the option
Brayden Gray
Remove Pajeet.
Hunter King
...
Michael Morris
Same exact situation with Intel vs AMD, why are we stuck with this fucking company?
Gabriel Parker
I mean I'm glad they finally released drivers for it, but after dealing with months of shit performance I just bought a decent nvidia card instead.
Lucas Scott
I said "similar" not the same. Nvidia user btw.
Liam Edwards
user, there aren't any Pascal cards on that chart. Since you're so dumb you couldn't even tell, I'll just help you out with some results.
This is pretty much the case, yeah. There are literally no graphics cards on the market right now that are both very fast and free from all sorts of issues, not even NVIDIA. AMD apparently can't do better so NVIDIA just does well enough to stay ahead in the race. I can only hope Vega is a really stellar product, with stellar performance.
John Stewart
>1440p 60fps every game made in the last 3 years on Ultra or near Ultra >AMD processor and GPU
Debate me
James Jenkins
>Nvidia card using DX11 is still a good deal better than the next best AMD card using DX12 with Async Is this a sign of AMD sucking hard, or DX12?
Joseph Phillips
>Cherry-picking this hard
Christopher Gray
why would you pick the 480 over the 1060 though? £5-10 difference is nothing
Grayson Gonzalez
Yeah, and your (((similar performance))) is wrong.
When I use an Nvidia card, I can expect a game to run decently at launch or at the very least within a few days of launch.
With AMD you get weeks if not months of shit performance and visual artifacts.
James Mitchell
...
Ian Perry
AMD is screwed. 5-8 years ago when they offered better deals than Nvidia people still bought Nvidia en masse. Now AMD has no technological lead, no financial lead, and still has a worse image in the average consumer's mind.
Josiah Watson
>Cherry Picking Literally the third google image result when i searched async benchmark
The 1060 is actually cheaper since nobody actually sells a 480 at even close to MSRP
Carter Powell
Why do DX12 benchmarks always use high end CPUs? Wouldn't it make more sense to use lower end CPUs since those are the people who primarily benefit from alleviated CPU bottlenecks?
Henry Martinez
Thanks for helping me by posting the same image a minute later
Jaxon Long
>tfw 290 Vapor-x beating out 980 in some cases
Nvidia drops driver optimization for their older gen cards. 9xx fags can start to upgrade already.
Blake Taylor
None of those mean they're "finished" though. Just that they're a definitive number two these days.
Leo Morales
More VRAM which will probably important at some point. Supposedly kinda better performance in DX12 which is a meme, unfortunately. Better performance in Vulkan which is an even bigger meme than DX12, unfortunately. They will probably age better and supposedly won't be fucked over by planned obsolescence. Maybe. So basically there is literally no reason to pick the 480 at all.
Jaxson Baker
>wccftech >source My sides are orbiting Pluto.
Michael Russell
The green team knows how to market their product much better than the red team does.
This thread has been made just at the right time as AdoredTV released a lengthy video explaining the rivalry between Nvidia and AMD over the last 8 years, and how AMD has been utterly defeated by Nvidia.
Ryder James
Nvidia bought out web comics to shit on AMD and idiots followed the general consensus. Nvidia was smart and played the internet, AMD tried to just market when everyone already had their prepackaged opinions fed to them by their favorite whoever.
Parker Gray
Except the benchmarks aren't from wccftech checkmate
Anthony Campbell
>amd is shit >Nvidia is shit What the fuck do you faggots use then?
Carter Young
>Hear about DX12 and Vulkan >Test it out on DX:HR, DOOM, Gears 4 and Hitman >mfw gaining 15-30 fps
Why do people call these a meme again? Or is it just Nvidiafriends whose GPU's aren't optimized who complain they're not gaining benefits?
Jayden Powell

>tfw still stuck with a GTX 660 >all this back-and-forth between the two companies left me too skeptical to buy a new card I was thinking of getting a GTX 1060, but now I don't know anymore
Jaxon Hill
This is not a marketing issue, no matter how much AMD fanboys want it try and frame it as. Its a complete and total failure on AMD's part in remaining competitive. They haven't been competitive in the GPU or CPU markets for ages.
Cooper Perry
Snapdragon in my phone
Christian White
OP you need to go back to school. Nvidia produces high quality processing graphics units while AMD produces cheaper alternatives. AMD is Intel counter part not Nvidias. Nvidia survived Matrox, 3dfx and many other gpu developers. Comparing a base price gpu developer to a high end high grade developer is useless. Nvidia is hated for many reasons but none of those have anything to do with catching fire or having shady business practices. Nvidia is simply the ferrari of GPU's while AMD is fiat punto. Its simply a preference and cash point here. I prefer the cheaper AMD alternative as tech quickly becomes obsolete and I know I will be changing my parts. Nvidia owners stick with their parts longer but suffer the buyers remorse when new Nvidia TECH hits the market. Both are great at gaming. Both are good and both can be used for business purposes. Now INTEL and AMD thats where the fight is at.
Leo Martinez
I don't really play ubishit games on pc so I can't really say much aside from most ubishit games always run poor on pc.
Jose Robinson

Xavier Young
If your going budget go amd
Landon Sanders
Nvidia makes good cards, but has terrible business practices. AMD makes mediocre cards, but doesn't have terrible business practices. Pick your poison basically.
Xavier Diaz
Nvidia if you want objectively superior hardware and don't mind giving financial support to atrocious anti-consumer business practices. AMD if you want to support relatively somewhat kinda probably maybe more honest company and don't mind spending your money on objectively inferior experience. It's a lose-lose situation.
Asher Roberts
Here's the issue, even when AMD made GPUs with a much better price/performance ratio than Nvidia did, there was still no one to buy them. They couldn't remain competitive because even being competitive did not give them an edge.
Eli Lee
If you find a 480 considerably cheaper than a 1060, you can justify the slightly inferior performance in favour of getting a better price/performance deal. This is assuming you're on a tight budget, of course.
Liam Parker
No, its just that even with that massive performance boost you are either right at or slightly behind where Nvidia already was with DX12.
Jordan James
>it's a car analogy by people who don't know anything about cars episode
Camden Robinson
And yet you faggots keep parroting everything ad nauseum
Jacob Kelly
Ubishit games run fine on nvidia Also you're missing out on some pretty great games famerino
Ethan Myers
Exactly. Look at the specs and see what best suits your requirements before you buy a card. Wait at least a year before getting a model so that you have enough reviews and better drivers. Remember that this tech goes out of fashion real quick in todays market so don't spend more then you can afford.
Mason Baker
Not true, AMD had just over 50% of the GPU market at one point in time. Then they started shitting the bed and Nvidia rocketed ahead.
Ayden Fisher
Jesus don't ever make analogies again
Dominic Hill
because they want to test which gpu is better. which means eliminating possible cpu bottleneck.
if you want to see cpu benchmarks dont look for gpu benchmarks retard.
