What was the best total war game?
What was the best total war game?
Medieval 1
Stainless Steel
that's not a game and not even the best m2 mod
Okay
So what is the best M2 mod?
Empire.
Probably Bellum Crucis or Broken Crescent. SS is solid if heavily modded with submods.
That is the third worst TW game
Napoleon for MP
M2 and Empire for singleplayer
I want to get into Warhammer, because I like the battles most of the time, but the campaign map just pisses me off when compared to most of the older titles.
>Can only recruit set number of armies through lords - no option of bringing in reinforcements at a natural pace
>Can't manually bolster your garrison when seeing armies approach, being constantly stuck with shitty standard garrisons that game allows you to have
>Automatic garrisons also makes sieges a pain since it's impossible to take the AI by surprise unless you cheese it by engaging another army right in front of it
>This convenient garrison can never be moved either if your nearby troops need help
>Automatic unit replenishment completely removes any sense of consequence from taking casualties since you'll most likely be back to full strength just a few turns later
>Same goes for enemies, where you'll be forced to follow them, lest your victory be totally meaningless
>Annoying high level agent spam when you've barely had time to train your own agents
>Construction in general feels a lot more limited
There's a lot of good things about the game, but these issues just really make me not want to play it.
Shogun 2
I can't think of any good things other than nice models and animations.
Attila
>Love the RTS part of the game
>Shit at the grand strategy-esque part
I need to spend like a good solid three hour session or so to really get into the game, but I always feel like I don't have time.
>try to get into Rome again
>your 20 unit garrison takes attrition damage immediately when 4 units decide to lay siege
>hundreds of soldiers dead before I can react at no cost to the enemy
Shogun 2
Attila is also an acceptable answer
If it makes you feel better, creative assembly is shit at making the grand-strategy part of their games.
I remember when Rome 2 came out, they had balanced buildings such that it was always economically superior to leave basically every building at level 2 out of 4 (5? it's been a while) because as they went up in levels, the net production once you accounted for squalor either stayed the same or decreased.
Like, this is simple math and they failed at it.
>Anything beyond Shogun 2
>Shogun 2
>want to play ashigaru specialist faction
>rampage with huge army
>Ikko-Ikki show up
>20 card stack with ashigaru units 20% bigger than mine
>quit
dissu
Use guns m8
The AI in Attila/Warhammer essentially renders the previous games unplayable by comparison.
Warhammer
I thought Ikko-Ikki Ashigaru had the lowest morale to compensate for their increased numbers and sword equipped variation. Shock and Awe the shit out of them.
Med 1 > Shogun 1 >>>>>>>>>>>> The rest
CA keeps adding features the AI can't handle or shallow pointless shit like politics in rome 2/attila.
