So like, I like Dragon Warrior Monsters a whole lot. I've replayed them almost yearly for over 10 years now
What else is there, in this genre?
I tried Dragon Quest Joker or something on the DS and it was just awful

There's a sequel. It's fun.
Get 2 or the fan translated remake on 3DS. Both are pretty good.
try dragon quest v. it has a proto monster-catching aspect that you will enjoy
The joker games are great though.
Second one more-so than the first
Literally just Pokemon and a few really shitty derivatives. Maybe try the Shin Megami Tensei series or Dragon Quest IV/V/VI.
Play 2, its got a few more monster races and more side stuff besides the main story. Also use only Fangslimes.
What about the third one? anyone played it?
Monster Joker 3? It's JP-only.
The professional edition of joker 2 never got translated either, and the fan translation got a cease and desist.
Was that Nintendo's fault or Squeenix? I need to know if I should get mad or not.
The sequel on the GBC was one of my favorite games as a kid, I'm still upset the remake never got localized.
I tried getting into Joker 2 but it just wasn't the same.
Check out Robopon games.
I love the shit out of Pokémon and Shin Megami Tensei. Tried to play DQ Monsters Joker 2, but it felt like the only thing that mattered was the amount of grinding. I like being able to cheese through the games with bred/fused übermonsters witt handpicked characteristics.
Ni no Kuni on PS3
Jade Cocoon on PSX. Don't argue, don't think for yourself about how dated it looks, just shut up and play it, you will thank me for it.
Siralim 2 is literally DQM 2 with a deeper combat system and no level limit
THIS THIS THIS
>I've replayed them almost yearly for over 10 years
Real talk. Fuckin why? I mean, I have a hard enough time replaying a game the second time, let alone playing it 10 times over. How does it not get grating and mind numbingly boring to you?
Games like that have very high replayability. Not everyone plays only soulless casual garbage like you.
There is a remake of 1+2 for PS1 with overall better graphics, but the contols and backgrounds are kinda shitty.
>I tried Dragon Quest Joker or something on the DS and it was just awful
Eh the problem I think was that it was way too fucking short.
My nigga
No clue why people keep recommending this.
The biggest draw of Dragon Quest Monsters was being able to focus on recruiting monsters with meat, training how they would react in fights with what actions you select, breeding monsters together, and the random dungeon generation. Meat was hard to come by, but that meant that you focused on spending it with the important monsters you wanted.
DQV had none of that. Hell, recruiting monsters is more of a chore than anything, and rather than breeding monsters together for awesome stats and spellpool, every monster in DQV has set stats/moves which means that your favorite will never be awesome (unless it is one of the few awesome monsters).
Joker was fairly dull as well, thanks to grinding in the same spots and capturing monsters just involving grinding them until a recruit happened.
Dragon Quest 3 for the SNES is a good half step between the Monster series and the Quest series. Play that you fucking faggot.
Play Joker 2 Pro. Every monster has a chance to become viable. I got through it with the unfinished fan translation.
I had a good time with Joker 1 too.
