How the hell do I become good enough friends with a faction to buy from their markets?

Does vanilla have a complex economy system yet? I haven't played in a long time because an update broke all my mods and I haven't bothered fixing anything and I was waiting for the game to be a bit more fleshed out

Last I remember I think you could just leech off of ongoing battles to get a trickle of rep for participating

Any reason to go somewhere where there aren't planets? Can I find cool things in nebulas?

I've been essentially escorting the trade ships at this point, its the only thing giving my fleet enough supplies to move about

Also killing the survivors since most likely you both will be faster than the winners so you can catch up and pick them off for easy loot

Not that I know of its still buy low sell high or smuggling to change prices I'm sure it'll change when the industry update finally comes

Sector Bounties where Pirates exist.

Also makes mad dosh.

You need to get a a commission with them.
I think it's on the same tab as the missions.
Though i don't know if it's only in their homeworlds/main markets.

What are the suggest mods these days?

Nexerlin, Star Sector+ (don't go for the multiple mod version, it removed features), Improved Combat Chatter, Blackrock, and Diable.

Wait, so is SS+ still alive or it has been split?

It's been split, but you can still download it and use it on the current patch.

How do you pronounce Luddic Church, like Loo-Dik or Luh-Dik

You pronounce "fucking shits that can't even into tech"

Ludd-ick, because they're Luddites.

>starsector
Is this on steam? I swear ive seen some of those ship designs before

Fuck off Tri-Tachyon shill

When then how do you pronounce Ludd, like Luhd or Lood

It's split to new ships/weapons pack and the general balance/bounties/economy changes.

those ships look dope as fuck.

>killing a system patrol fleet solo on my conquest
Is there a better feeling?

shit meant to ask how to pronounce ludd to
Its not on steam though, its planned to be there when its done never ever

I'm too tired and to retarded to properly reply to people

Should I buy this superfreighter just to help my carry way more stuff or is this just a waste of credits?

Your fleet is?

Small

Mule then.
The Atlas will slow your map speed and is shit in a fight, a Mule isn't as good when it comes to cargo but it won't slow you down and it can hold itself in a fight

>has been in development for years
>still barebones as hell
>no update for almost a fucking year now

First and last time I bought early access.

Fight their enemy and complete their job posting unless that was added by a mod. I don't remember.

It wasn't even in the early access, user. The dev just said "you can buy a copy for 10$ now to support me".

Super Freighters are an end game thing for when you have a proper fleet and start adding support craft. For, pick up something small and cheap.

>no update for almost a fucking year now
It updates every 8 months or twice a year at best. It's being made by one guy, dude. Chill.

>game is not released yet but you can buy it now and play the pre-release builds
>It wasn't even early access

The fuck?

One incredibly incompetent guy, apparently. Chill.

You could've easily pirated it. It's all your fault, my man.

He doesn't do monthly updates, he does massive ones. Doubt you can do better desu.

I know. That's why I said I learned my lesson.

>"massive" updates are borderline polish to an extremely barebones game
>w-why don't you make games yourself le random spoiler

Are you actually the dev? Just off yourself.

I think he's doing a pretty decent job. You don't just implement everything then wipe out three quarters of the features because you fucked up from the beginning because that's what often happens in haphazard blitzkrieg software development. It's slow but the game is turning out great for it.

It already has enough decent features that what's out there in the market. If you're not happy with it, you can always email the guy for a refund. Just try to be calm about it.

There's nothing to see on those empty nebulas
....yet

What's the best way to get started? I find it hard finding enough fleets that aren't twice the size of mine and I'm barely breaking even with fuel and expenses to grow any larger myself.

Follow patrols, help them kill pirates

Go into the intel tab and look at bounties, and the big bounties are great, but not for just starting out, you'll want system bounties that give like 1000 per ship destroyed.

Then once you get welcoming with a faction go to one of their markets and look at the missions tab and accept the commission.

You know what else was made by only two people? Mount & Blade. It took them three years to go from first public beta to release, with builds getting released frequently and not once every year. That's what "haphazard blitzkrieg software development" does.

Five years and you've got a working battle system involving 2D sprites floating around in worse performance than Witcher 3. Nice. Meanwhile the nexerelin modder added about 15 times more features than this guy did in his entire time. Fine ass job indeed.

There have been a few DMCAs sent out for games on Steam ripping sprites from Starsector... Maybe that's why?

To be fair, who wouldnt want to rip off this beauty?

Can I actually join in on NPC battles? Or do you mean mop up stuff that escapes those bigger fights? Honestly I've not been playing long and I've been avoiding all those big blob fleets hard.

You can join in on battles as long as you are hostile to one faction I don't actually recall if you have to be friendly to the one fighting them but im 80% sure you just have to be hostile to one and you have your transponder on, yeah you can join

You can join in a fight if one of the two parties is hostile to you.
Though your contribution will be limited in larger battles, try to help a small trade convoy for example

You have to be hostile to one and at least neutral to the other. You can't "break" battles between allies or fight both of them at once.

>and at least neutral to the other.
Thanks I couldnt remember if you had to be welcoming or something like that to join a battle

This looks interesting. How does it compare to DW: Universe?

fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=11462.0

If two people made Mount & Blade in three years, it would take one guy at least six. A large portion of that time, Alex wasn't even working full-time.

They aren't really comparable, one is a Grand Strategy 4X with the emphasis on the management of an interstellar empire, the other is an arcadey shooter with deep combat mechanics and an emphasis on fleet management and direct piloting, with some roleplay elements.

MB devs weren't full time either. And this game is being made by two as well. One person does all the art, the other does the coding. Six years at this rate, when he's already at five? Ha, try sixteen.

thanks for clearing that up, still seems cool

It will probably be seven years total, at this rate. Starsector is a lot more feature-complete than you're making it out to be; after the next update, the only thing missing is outposts and a bunch of pure content.

Also, the artist does such a comparatively small part of the work that it's not really fair to make that comparison.

I just want to be able to build factories and stuff like in X3

Lore-wise, it would be a bit strange to be able to build as much stuff as X3 though. But I hear you, it's a bit sad (although not unexpected) that building stuff will be for an ulterior update.

i know fuck all about this game but these ships make me rock hard whenever i see them

Feature complete? Outside of the fighting itself, everything else is a complete afterthought and just slapped on without any depth whatsoever. In fact, even the fighting is still half-assed but nowhere near as much as every single other thing.

>producing every single asset for the game is just completely negligible
Oh, right. Sorry for trying to rain on your parade. You totally made it all by yourself.

Soooo you didn't enjoyed the game one bit? Maybe you would be wiling to compare it to Mighty Number 9, No Man's Sky or Slaughtering ground? An abject failure in every way?

Soon(tm)

They gonna rip it off alright. Rip off it's wings and leave it to live the slow life.

I don't think the fighting and the general concept are bad. But if that's all you can show up in 5-6 years, you're just extremely incompetent. Currently it's almost proof of concept level.

I was snookered into thinking the forever anticipated industry update was finally here but now i find out its just some skills about salvaging or or something
what gives

It's basically Mount&Blade in space with 2D ship combat.

I know right? But hey, being a pirate might become quite doable now, so there's that.

Okay, so you'd put it more like a sub-par Endless Sky? A cheap Wayward Terran Frontier? Spaz? Maybe Gratuitous Space Battles?

I only played NMS out of the games you keep pointlessly listing.

I'm trying to figure out what do you consider a good well thought out game, and not a shallow proof of concept.

Oh. Should've just started with that. Here are a few for example. Shittily cropped but whatever, you probably played at least one. Glad you didn't ask to name other games that are this barebones after this much dev time. That would've been extremely hard.

...

I was thinking more that you may be knowing about some awesome space games or 2d games, far better than Starsector... But since I can only see Endless space in that list that is somewhat comparable, I'm thinking those are just not you cup of tea. At least you listed good games so it is certainly not a shitty tastes issue here.

Why is Diable so fucking perfect?

>transforming fighter
>transforming frigate
Transforming capital ship when?

So the next update has:
>industry skills
>changes to how ship recovery works
>space stations in combat
>exploration/procedurally generated systems
>building of outposts
>economy changes
>fighters are now like a module instead of a separate purchased ship
Anything I missed?

>building outposts
Pretty sure you can only just check out planets, but feel free to correct me

Hm, you might be right, he hasn't really said anything either way
If he had outpost mechanics he'd probably be talking more about them

Though I'm just skimming, I'm not seeing it on the forum, which you can find out all the other changes is you're not already
fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=11477.0

I get my information from the blogposts

It's still worth reading for the miscellaneous stuff that's not worth a blog post

QUICK
CLAIM YOUR SHIPFU

...

Lasher

Tri-Tachyon has the best ships
Yeah they're not for poorfags and they lose their CR quickly in a fight but they are really effective and can kill everything before shit starts to break down
Plus, if you're having trouble earning enough money for upkeep you should just retire and fuck space hookers

Mount & Blade was buggy trash until some random patches came out in 2013.

Those patches weren't even made by the devs.

What is this?

Pandemonium, from Diable Avionics. (custom skin though)

>in three threads right now
>two of them are shitpost threads and getting replies out the ass
>this actual video games thread barely staying afloat
I hate this place

It will get better when the update releases though.

Who am I kidding >< It will be worse and people will complain about every change, and mods taking time to updates, and bugs....

> >

Im actually thinking about buying this. How would rate it with mods? I heard it´s Mount and blade in space, is it true?

Yeah it's mount and blade in space
Combat's awesome and complex
The modding scene is really good too, there are pretty extensive overhauls and expansions available

Without mods it's quite alright, with compelling combat but limited overarching goals and mechanics. With mods however it's a whole new game.

Every updates had a hotfix a few weeks later though.

The only way to truly bugtest is to release to a wide audience, doesn't matter how diligent you are, you won't find things and the players will

No other ship gives me as much satisfaction when blowing something up anymore.

Fair, but then the complaining will die out at least about the bugs probably

Won't stop Sup Forumsirgins complaining

Alright I bought it. This and MB are the two only games in history I have bought. Better be worth it

>that pic
God starsector is so unbelievably comfy
