So I wonder, what was the last game of this year and/or 2016 that really met up with your expectations or surpassed them? What was the last game you feel actual joy through and through rather than the hate we use as fuel in this board?

The key is to get games you know nothing about and therefore have no huge expectations set before playing them.
That way you can enjoy it for what it is.

Fate/Extella came out at the beginning of Feb and I really enjoyed that way more than I was expecting.

Honestly I'm in that area where I like games way too much to be considered casual but I'm not hardcore autistic about them either. I can play games and enjoy them like a normal fucking person, its really not that hard.

Seriously, pick two other things to do beside playing games and then do them. You'll enjoy gaming more when you're not doing it for 8 hours a day like its your fucking job

I loved Dark Souls 3. This year the first game I've gotten is Nioh and I loved it too.

I have tried to leave this place for 2 years and failing miserable because I keep coming back.

Last games I enjoyed was DOOM and FFXV. Both were good in different ways.

The problem with HZD isn't the writing itself, the problem is that it doesn't do anything different that games like Far Cry Primal and Witcher 3 don't do equal or better.

I think frustration should occur at least once or twice during a game due to difficulty of some sort. I enjoy a game that pushes back at me at least or punishes me for ignoring mechanics for a certain period of time.

Total War: Warhammer can be frustrating at times, but it makes me happy.

plenty of games like that with 1000 hours in them, but you can't be playing the same game over and over. the problem is the industry is full of greedy fucks right now and the next good games with sweat and blood in them to come out off the top of my head will be Mount & Blade Bannerlord, and Cyberpunk 2077(Witcher 1-3 and its expansions proved their company to be genuine for now, Cyberpunk will determine their official status)

Just because the mainstream industry isnt pumping out constant greatness like in the old days doesnt mean we don't get quite a few gems every year

Project Mirai DX was the last thing I recall that could give me the dumbest smile on my face from start to finish.

Witcher 3, hands down. I went into a big Witcher fan with pretty big expectations I was still blown away. I know people rag on it, but they only rag on it for two things:
