Mass Effect 2 on its own isn't awful. It dials back a lot of the RPG for more shootan, but it also spends a lot more time developing companions. If Mass Effect 3 had been a combination of the ME1 and ME2 I think it would be looked upon more fondly as an experiment to find a nice middle ground. As it is however, it just represents how far the game was going to go into pure casual shooter rather than a developed RPG in ME3.

I could understand if Femshepard had a real character design and good model from the start, but she only got a design since ME3, and her model was still of completely inferior quality compared to male default Shepard, especially her expression and polycount. She was literally a character creation preset, not a real character like Shepard.

They should have just bit the bullet and made a game set during or before the events of the trilogy but without the 'galaxy ending threat' bullshit. There's tons and tons of stuff they could explore.

Hell, they could even have made a game where you play as Garrus between ME1 and ME2, everything is there - a squad, an entire space station to explore and fight in, even paragon/renegade thanks to ME1 demonstrating he can be swayed either way by Shepard.

Just imagine how much better that would have been than Andromeda.

Obviously characterization of an MC in a game where the character picks from several dialogue options is going to be limited which is why it's dumb the shills are trying to have people be attached to ME's MCs.

Jennifer Hale's Shepard was so fucking good. Sara Ryder's voice acting isn't bad per se but the character itself is much younger and sounds like a panicked kid during combat so it's just impossible to take her seriously. I fully believed FemShep was a badass space bitch.

Did anyone create a custom Shepard in ME1-3? I'm curious because I tried it once but it was just so weird and out of place. The default male Shepard is THE Shepard for me.

Mass Effect has been mediocre since the first game.

I remember firing it up on release and thinking, almost immediately, that there was something horribly wrong about the animations, character expressions, and the general atmosphere of the game - like, as if the audio department did not communicate with the VFX department who did not communicate with the writing department, etc. during development. Nothing blended or synced together well.

Also, gameplay was shit. Exploring planets was retarded. The story was really whatever, it was like one of those pulp scifi books that forced political agendas into the mix and thought it was being cutting edge and deep for it when really it just came across as shallow writing. The roleplaying aspect was pretty mediocre, color coded ternary options all the way to the very end of ME3. Fucking shit like Until Dawn makes for a better roleplaying experience.

Don't make me remember the good times. Mass Effect is supposed to be dead to me.

ME2's character work is top notch, and mechanically it's far and away better than ME1, but the bugfuck retarded plot caused tons of damage and directly caused most of the bullshit that plagued 3. We just didn't realize it at the time because the good parts distracted from it, and everyone just assumed that the 3rd game would wrap everything up and explain shit.

ME3 is a goddamn disaster without a doubt, but it was basically the only outcome after ME2 upended everything for no reason.
