>WC3 Thrall - down-to-earth leader who wants the best for his people
>WoW Thrall - green Jesus
Sometimes writers take things too far, I guess.
>Passes by forest trolls
>I can't believe we ever allied ourselves with their kind!
>Allies with Trolls again
>High/Blood Elves join a faction where the capital city is named after someone who tried to destroy them.
>WC3 Thrall
Writen by Metzen
>WoW Catalcysm "Green Jesus" Thrall
written by Dave Kosak and shit
As much as people like to make fun of Metzen for making Thrall a mary-sue, he was actually busy with Project Titan during the time Thrall turned into shit for Cataclysm.
>UGHHH i h8 character development
He did ruin SC2 though.
Thrall had no fucking character development.
You can't define a race with one quality. All humans arent conquerors or pacifists or racists but some of them are.
If you were aliens who had only met human military it would be stupid for them to think that all humans are soldiers.
>"I can't believe we ever allied ourselves with their kind!"
>no explanation for why that was bad
I just saw it as a (pretty shitty) one-line reason for the new blue trolls suddenly replacing them.
Those were green trolls, unlike the purple trolls who are more trustworthy
you forgot your meme arrows, fellow anonymous friend
>It was the demons who made the orcs what they are
>Have waged large scale invasions and wars at least twice since then
Orcs in wod: no, wait. We are conquerors, this time without demon cool adi to prove it
SC2's trainwreck of a story is a two-man job. Metzen is responsible for Starcraft becoming a love story, AN ANCIENT EVIL AWAKENS, and so on. All the horrible dialogue, the revolution overdrives and the evil laughs of villains before they get into Super Saiyan fights, was this guy, the lead writer. Similar case for Diablo 3, hell this guy wrote Reaper of Souls too. Metzen flat out admitted that he grew soft and just wanted to tell cheesy Silver Age comic book stories probably after snorting too much coke off the model Doomhammer but at least he wrote memorable dialogue in SC1 and WC3. Now it's all just shit.
Didn't Metzen work on SC1 too, though?
I have to say, Blizzards death has been a slow and painful one. Hopefully it's almost over now.
This sounds crazy but since WoD has Thrall looked like Metzen?

It wasn't that bad.
>That one Alliance general who had no institutional power and was likely not a real general and only had power because a zombie apocalypse broke the chain of command tried to kill us that one time! The Alliance persecutes us!
>I think we can trust the Orcs who had previously waged a genocidal war against us, I mean it wasn't their fault. Give them a second chance. The Forsaken are also cool with us despite previously being thralls to the Lich King. We Sin'dorie are not judgemental people, so we can forgive them what they did while they were being controlled.
Yeah, I think it's the short beard and face that do it. This cutscene is amazing by the way. I think it's the epitome of nearly everything bad about modern Blizzard writing condensed into 150 seconds. Garrosh didn't deserve this.
Garithos did nothing wrong.
The Burning Legion was nothing. The power of WoW players needing a Horde race they could masturbate to is the most powerful force in Azeroth.
Metzen's been with the company from the start, but the last game he did writing on was WC3. WoW making truckloads of money elevated him, as a company founder, into a position of infinite luxury which is why he's already retired at like 40. He changed a lot since the 90s too, he thinks all the old games were too edgy and dark which is why SC2 and D3 are so tonally garbage. Still he's basically just been an energetic PR guy for the past 10 years, makes it hard to believe he's gone.
Anyone ever mod this game? I recently discovered there are a ton of mods for W3 and was curious if anylne has tried them
WoW has been a shitfest in terms of lore.
When the games went from RTS to MMO, everything had to centre around player opportunities. And it just warped things completely.
I think this implemented the worst lore in WoW, even worse so than WoD did.
So much of it doesn't make sense: Blood Elves joining the Horde, Kael'Thas joining the Legion, Vashj and Illidan turn evil.
Is there more I'm forgetting?
MMOs are just terrible vehicles for stories. Vanilla handled this the best by mostly being about world-building and solving smaller crises that gradually added up to bigger stuff at endgame, then BC started to shit the bed and there was no recovery.
The Legion are the ones that actually reactivate the Dark Portal and invade through it, so the factions hold them off, go through the Portal, and kill Illidan. Makes sense. WoD was the first outright filler expansion though so I think it's worse.
Vanilla WoW was cool because it let you explore the world from the RTS games and kill a couple of the big monsters, but you didn't really influence anything. You just felt like an adventurer exploring a world that would exist whether you were there or not. Then the expansions started letting you kill off major villains left and right until they ran out and had to invent new ones every time.
Whichever one let night elves be mages.
Now that I think about it I don't think anything ever beat the THERE'S ONLY ONE LEGION
>Warcraft will never grow beyond an outdated MMO with nothing left to offer
>The Chronicles books are the only thing worth looking into anymore
>All the horrible dialogue, the revolution overdrives and the evil laughs of villains before they get into Super Saiyan fights, was this guy, the lead writer
>Similar case for Diablo 3
Fuck.
I guess I finally understand why Diablo 3 became what it is.
>D2: "You, random adventurer, face many evils on your exceedingly dangerous quest. Beware."
>D3: "YOU'RE THE CHOSEN ONE, DESTINY ITSELF HAS NO HOLD ON YOU! YOU AMAZING GUY, YOU!"

I'll just leave this here.
To be fair, There was more development in terms of Arthas and Grom than Thrall. Thrall just sit's and is like "I'm da Warchief yo. Grom stop injecting Demon Smack into your arms!".
All this reminds me of is trying to out micro the AI in the expansion's single player.
That shit was fucking hard.
>reading that PC Gamer article where WoW was announced and they're so excited about the future of Warcraft being an actual fleshed out world to explore and learn about
>the currently most popular incarnation of Warcraft is a whacky card game
I haven't gone to uni in 2 months, the depression revs up every day anons.
I miss vanilla. I miss being able to walk among the world of warcraft.

Honestly I thought the Prehistoric "Grunge Rock/Steampunk (Slagpunk?)" thing was pretty awesome.
Shame they were the bad guys.
>Vanilla WoW was cool because it let you explore the world from the RTS games and kill a couple of the big monsters
Yeah, and that's exactly what made it good. You were just a random person exploring the world set up by the previous games, and that was cool as fuck.
Has any game ever had more enthusiastic voice actors than WC2?
It's literally his OC. Just like Soldier 76 was from his first attempt to get into the comic industry.
dont think too hard about the wow lore
it really, really doesnt make even the slightest of sense
I put 250 hours into Elysium two months ago. Even on a shitty Russian server that had over 4 times the vanilla population cap and a 6k queue, forcing myself to play 10+ hours a day so I wouldn't get stuck in the queue, I just can't get over it. I have painful pangs of nostalgia for something that happened only 2 months ago, just because it was WoW. It gave me a newfound appreciation for vanilla. There's so many storylines that take place over many zones and dozens of levels, little plot threads for every race and how they interact with each other that flesh the world out. Before the game became about sitting in town waiting for queues to pop, before every system got dumbed down little by little, before the sense of community died, it all just hurts.
>tfw remembered WC2 Grom's voice sounding like ACDC singer on speed
I remember I was dissapointed as fuck as a kid when I heard WC3 Grom's low voice for the first time.
> but you didn't really influence anything. You just felt like an adventurer exploring a world that would exist whether you were there or not
You fought an Old God near the end and canon killed off a major character at the very end who was retconned back for Wrath. Certainly not inconsequential at all.
There's also the whole being a Warlock thing. Night Elves and Undead joining the main two factions when their objectives/mission statements are wildly different from the factions they are part of.
The lore problems created as a result of accommodating gameplay were all there in Vanilla, too.
Winterspring's music always hits hard for some reason.
Stranglethorn's music too.
youtube.com
I can concede that. It's important to note that those two bosses were also the last main bosses of vanilla, and to be fair all of the lore about the Old Gods was only just getting started in vanilla, it wasn't until later expansions that they've basically become the ultimate endgame villains of the story, even past the Legion. I think it's just the difference in story approach that made vanilla different to me. BC and onwards is when the main story became the focal point of the game and became increasingly more important, whereas vanilla still was primarily just about fleshing out the world of Warcraft 3.
Shit they had to release two books just to fix up the messy lore that had been building up over the past 12 years. I'm kinda glad Legion is basing itself on the Chronicles for the sake of more "stable" lore, but it takes away from the original RTS lore somewhat.
But I suppose almost 13 years of an MMO will do that.
>screaming like a hyperactive psychopath with blood drooling from his mouth in his portrait
Yeah, I remember feeling a litte weirded out by his WC3 version too.
>Has any game ever had more enthusiastic voice actors than WC2?
Dawn Of War still reigns.
I've got to be the only one who doesn't really have a lot of nostalgia for vanilla despite that being when I started and that being the only game I really played for a long time. I don't play WoW anymore, but I just can't bring myself to even envision myself enjoying vanilla. Despite all the good times and bad, there just isn't anything there for me.
My favorite part of WoW / WC3 lore is the fate of the Seven Kingdoms, the mighty human kingdoms of Azeroth that were spoken of in the first two games. Obviously implementing seven human kingdoms wasn't really feasible, but the plot justifications for getting rid of them are hilarious.
>Stormwind
Gets fucked up in the war, rebuilt, capital of the humans in WoW
>Lordaeron
Gets fucked up in WC3, becomes Undead territory
>Stromgarde
After the third war...ogres took it? The kingdom is now just a castle in a levelling zone
>Alterac
Traitors in the second war, the alliance took over the kingdom...and then everyone just left? The kingdom is now just tiny ruins in a levelling zone.
>Gilneas
Hiding behind a wall. They don't want to open the door because they're werewolves now.
>Dalaran
It's in a bubble now.
>Kul Tiras
It's an island lmao we don't even have to make an excuse for not putting it in the game. Isn't even on the map after Cataclysm.
Thrall saved the orcs from being demon slaves and brought their culture back. He literally redpilled all the orcs under him.
>redpilled, brought back their culture
Well yeah look how well all that MAKE ORCS RED AGAIN thing went with Garrosh
Everyone's got their different golden age of the game, except WoD
WoD was my real foray into WoW, and I had a blast getting to 100 with the guild I was in and experiencing stuff like Raiding for the first time.
Please no mean.
I'm just more surprised there are still people getting into WoW this late in its life
The first mentions of the Old Gods I remember was in the WC3 instruction manual (the book one that was mostly lore.) They were mentioned as bad guys that the Titans themselves fought.
I think what you're saying kinda exudes itself through all of WoW. The questing/leveling, even though it's not all that great from a mechanical perspective, is where the real fleshing out of the world happens even to this day. Helping people out, convincing them, doing work, etc. Hell even a character like Garrosh was shown to be interesting (Cataclysm Stonetalon quest-line ending for example.) But once things become dungeon/raid/event focused, things take a huge leap in mechanics as this is where WoW shines the most, but they also take a huge downfall in lore as stupid inconsistent and out of character moves are made often to move the plot forward (ex. Illidan attacking Shattrath or Garrosh going full cartoon character evil or Arthas' stupid as fuck plan.)
For what it's worth, WoD had the quality, just not the quantity, and that's why it gets hate. Per expansion, Blizzard always steps up their game when it comes to what it is they do best with WoW (dungeons/raids.)
All of it was explained and makes perfect sense
Remember that
>i dont like it
>i didnt bother reading into it
>it goes against my headcanon
Are not valid arguments
these permanent invisible fuckers
>Alterac
Deathwing had the dragonmaw clan and the death knights torch the place after retrieving the book of medivh
>Gilneas
Genn didn't want to pay for the internment camps as well as rebuilding the alliancea areas and said fuck you to Terenas, the worgen didnt happen much later
Dalaran only became a bubble to rebuild because of Archimonde's wifi powers in WC3
Orcs should be genocided. The idea of a """noble""" savage is complete nonsense.
I've always tried, but I just didn't like the total grind it was during the old days (Plus some friends got me into it but weren't very good at helping me get into it). So I kinda came back during Pandaria when some things were made easier (I was happy to finally get a mount and move around faster, as well as having actual money). But then I got bored and lost my account info. Sometime passed and Guild Grumps became a thing (Yes I got super into wow and reach end game because of a Game Grumps Guild.). So yeah.
Yeah. I've had this problem with WoW lately. I like playing the questing content, I enjoy the questlines and lore, and shit like that. But when I reach cap and it's time for raid progression, it's just frumpy guilds where I just get impatient because it's been two hours and we're wiping on the same boss. I enjoy WoW more when I'm just doing Questing/Dungeons and LFR/Normal Raids. Progression is when all fun stops and I just burn out fast.
Not really, most are just half assed excuses, so that player could actually enter that dungeon of a certain character and that its justified to kill him or her for some reason.
That's about it.
They didnt turn "evil", shows how much you nigs in this thread read.
>tfw no Garithos campaign
>tfw no Admiral Proudmoore campaign
When will the high elves return to the alliance?
When the Orcs are done fucking them.
Explain it to me
>Boring Elf
>Not Thicc Panda Women.
>spoonfeed pls ;_;
I just want you to back up your claim that it was all explained and made perfect sense
>weaboo furfaggotry
>not delicious gobbo shortstacks
shit taste my man
Dude, Soft Panda women, cute Gobbo/Gnome women, Sexually wild Worgen women/men.
Do you even /trash/ wow thread?
>le ur arguments are invalid but I won't explain why because le lurk moar memeys xDD
Why don't you climb a wall of dicks and jump down on your head?
admiral proudmoore did nothing wrong
There were no Blood Elves on Azeroth as of WC3. Everything that comes afterward about them coming back, their means of coming back/retaking quel'thalas is all retcon stuff.
These guys remained in Azeroth yet used the means the Outland Blood Elves learned to siphon magic and all that jazz. So okay, lets say they knew a more consistent way to communicate and move between Outland and Azeroth. But if they could do this, they didn't need the Horde's help to get to Outland through the Dark Portal, they could've done it themselves and stayed under constant communication with Kael and his elves.
The Alliance's initial dislike for Kael made sense in the WC3 world thus made sense why they wouldn't let blood elves join the alliance, even more so due to Garithos' mistreatment, but in WoW the Alliance has a ton of other fel magic users. At that point it doesn't make sense to discriminate on Blood Elves due to fel magic use.
Not gonna say anything against Kael turning evil. That actually makes a lot of sense, though they really didn't build up to his whole addiction angle all that well in the game.
absolutely correct post
repulsively inhuman post
>WoW has Korean/Jap tier cosmetics
this doesn't fucking work with those graphics. boggles my mind how anyone can ERP in that shit
That's photo shopped on
Is Aegwynn still alive now that Med'an doesn't exist?
>/trash/ wow thread
You mean /trash/ lili thread?
It's obvious the guys writing the story for Warcraft don't know what they're doing and don't give a fuck about the lore.
3 expansions later and they we still haven't resolved the matter of Azshara holding Neptulon captive and being in possession of his trident, an artifact she could've used to submerge everything and everyone by now.
Neptulon never made it to Azshara, he managed to beat Ozumat after getting grabbed.
Also
>Azshara
>Doing anything other than snorting powdered Murloc Spine off of a Naga Brute's cock in a massive underwater party
Azshara didn't really give a flying fuck about the surface world until Legion, and even then it's only because N'zoth was throwing a tantrum. Everything else was just her fucking around for giggles. She could probably submerge everything just by herself if she really wanted to.
Going to start playing WoW with a friend, should a go with Druid or a Shaman?
Warrior.
Druid, Shaman feels really slow to most players.
>making the undead a playable race
Who thought this was a good idea? The trolls are literal african dindus and even they pale in comparison to the niggers that are the undead
>2 more expansions at most until WC4 becomes a very real possibility
It's gonna feel good.
Orcs, trolls, and undead are niggers desu
What about the Orcs in this?
It makes a lot more sense when you realize Thrall is basically a human trapped in an orc body. He learned all the cool shit about orc culture from second hand sources, so when he encountered true orcs in their natural savagery in WoD we all his Horde was the wrong horde.
Garrosh did nothing wrong, he was just trying to bring the Horde back to its roots.
Depends
Do you want to tank, heal, or dps?
Bump
Did the Russian ever finish pulling it all together? I know some of the scenes were missing but the game still seemed intact.
And just imagine... There are most likely people ITT RIGHT NOW who went and paid to see the Warcraft movie.
I swear, if they make a shitty Starcraft movie I'mma start killing people.
