EA. what a fucking mess this was. turning a decent CRPG into some action hydrid CRPG.

the massive downgrade in graphics was really surprising

dark spawn went from looking like some kind of creature to generic polygon zombies

eaayeahhh

why cant we just admit that this wasnt a good series

if you dont want to listen to voice actors talk to each other, you're shit out of fucking luck, because the actual game is piss easy and really simple, press space, click some really obvious stuff, maybe move around a few times during big fights

DA2 Darkspawn

A DA:O Awakening Darkspawn

how'd they fuck the style so badly?

I really like the gameplay, I wish more RPGs had a similar combat system, both action-based but also tactical, non-formulaic/generic skills for classes, etc

same looking dungens, same looking envierment that dont change in the spam of 10 years, same looking city with half-baked character and story.

the game was kinda fun to play as an Archer or a mage beacuse of how broken those Classes were but i rather have orgions back.

DA2 was made in like a year and a half. i give them some praise for making a midcore game as fast as they did.

also post flemath. thats one of the biggest WTF moments.

They could have just copied and pasted assets. It looks like they purchased pre-made assets and glued them into a single game and just called them Darkspawn. After Awakening I really loved their design so generic zombie was such a let down.

And you mean the "I want to be a dragon! :D" Flemath?

The dialogue wheel is the most cancerous thing that happened to RPGs

It was kind of okay in Mass Effect as an isolated thing, but should have never been brought into other games.

One of the most popular mods for F04 is one that removes the dialog wheel and adds in the full dialog menu. People don't even like it. Had there been something like that for ME I probably would have installed it too.

What's even the practical difference between a dialogue wheel and an actual list of responses? Isn't the wheel just a short list?

this.and its not getting better. its in fact, getting worse.

true but atleast with the list, you know what you will be saying 100%

...

Yes,the wheel is just a short list.
The problem is,you don't know what the full line is going to be.
It forces the protagonist to be voice-acted,which I personally don't like in RPGs.
And for some reason, developers like that to include that thing where one line is always witty, one is always sarcastic and so on. And from there you just get forced humour like "I want to be a Dragon" mentioned earlier

In Mass Effect I don't remember having many "that's not what I wanted to say!" moments. Part of it was setup to make it obvious a branch off option was for gaining extra information, and for separating renegade and paragon choices from one another. It was also just them trying something different since it was a voiced character.

The games that followed were just copy-catting for no good reason. Some games like Fallout did a terrible job since the summaries were unclear about what was going to be said or happen.

Unironically my favourite of the series

Here's what really happened: ________________________________________________________EA______________________________________________________

literally everything

18 (EIGHTEEN) months of development

Majora's Mask had less than a year of development time.

Dragon Age II is a lot more different from Origins than Majora's Mask was from Ocarina of Time.

Especially considering it started conceptually as an expansion for Origins, before being bumped into its own game.

It could've used another 6-8 months in development, but even at its worst it was entertainingly bad, unlike DA:I and ME:A, which are fucking boring.

It was also just supposed to be a DLC sidestory for Origins but EA told them to make a full-fletched separate game out of it. In that time.

>take one horribly boring genre, crpg
>try to make it into an arpg
>its neither a good crpg or rpg

lets not kid ourselves about the assets in 2 either, it was just as bad in origins

sten was literally just a gray human with cornrows

and i remember the dwarf prince was literally just alistair but as a dwarf and with a beard
