Hidden Gems

What are some good games that flew under the radar?
I'd like and RPG please, but you are welcomed to post any obscure game that is good.

Grimrock 2 went under the radar for the most part which is a shame. The puzzles and dungeons were pretty damn good.

This is my hidden gem.
Fuck FF7 for coming out at the same time period.

Was it improvement over the first one?

Yes. Nonlinear structure with an overworld and different kinds of dungeons.

Is it the one where you get shipwrecked and fight crabs at the shore first?

...

Yes.

yeah and a lot of people seem to drop it there at the tutorial section when it gets much better and more open which is a shame

Arc fatalis, use arx liberatis mod

I think I have it on Humble Bundle thing. Need to check it out. Thanks!

Underrail, Geneforge, Space Rangers 2, Arcanum, Alpha Protocol, Arx Fatalis, Shadowrun Dragonfall and Hong Kong (Shadowrun Returns is kinda crap).

all of those are RPGs.

Men of War/Faces of War/Soldiers Heroes of WW2 is a really good RTT strategy title and also doubles as a great tank sim for people who love tanks. Great editor and great mods too.

Freestyle Metal X is a great motorbike exploration open world racing Tony Hawks mission based sorta genre mix. I had a lot of fun with it.

Forbidden Siren 1 and 2 is a great mix of stealth and survival horror. With some really interesting gimmicks and design decisions thrown in here and there.

King Kong is a fantastic FPS with a fantastic ecosystem food chain hierarchy and AI.

Darkest of Days is a really cool semi open world game set in a battlefield with hundreds of AI soldiers moving around and fighting.

Onimusha, Flatout, Medal of Honor Underground on PS1, Haunting Ground. All good games.

Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning. It gets super cheap on sales as well. It was supposed to be an MMO and it shows in the questing system but the combat is fast paced for an MMO and combo based. Its definitely worth a playthrough. People will cry like little bitches about the questing system but don't let that get you down. Theres plenty of content and the combat isnt' bad. Play it on its hardest difficulty, trust me.

I don't know whether or not it's a hidden gem but I've never seen anybody post it here.

All the GBA spinoffs. Great games, way better than mainline.

You're a terrible person

3D Dot Game Heroes.

Judge Dredd: Dredd vs Death was a surprisingly decent FPS with a really good atmosphere. I also liked the arresting mechanic. I was never into the Dredd comics and only watched the 2 films later as a result of liking the game, but I played as a good cop and tried to arrest literally everyone. I made barely any kills, only killed those who refused to surrender and went suicidal. I pretty much did a non lethal run until the end game where certain enemies wont give up.

More games really need a threat/challenge button to verbally warn your AI's and scare them into submission so you can arrest them.

...

GUST OF WIND D-DANCE

This was a pretty fun game, though I did feel it was a bit short.

>Solatorobo for Nintendo DS
It's like Rock em Sock em Robots + Starfox, and it's fun as fuck.
>Tail Concerto for Playstation
Same as above, but more child friendly and easier. Wonky as hell controls and bad FPS at times, but still just as fun.
>Sorcerland for PC
It's only a demo, but a lengthy one. Three playable characters with multiple unlockable special attacks, a hidden character with a ridiculous unlock method, and despite being in Japanese, the story is easy to follow based purely on context alone. Updates never
>Landstalker for Sega Genesis
Isometric Zelda, but the fairy is a mouthy bitch and the elf is a greedy jew. Great fun.
>Clockwork Knight - Pepperouchau's Adventure for Sega Saturn
It's like Toy Story, and it's the first time a key is used as a weapon. Fuck you Kingdom Hearts, Pepperouchau did it first.
>Kenka Bancho Badass Rumble for PSP
If not for Sup Forums, I would've missed this. It's like Way of the Samurai, but you're a Japanese high school gang leader and you beat the shit out of rival school leaders. It's corny as all hell, but it's mindless fun. Different endings based on how you spend your few ingame days.
>Mana Khemia Student Alliance for PSP
The first game I played where your choices mattered. It's a pretty lengthy RPG where you can interact with party members in side quests to raise their interest in you, and the one you work with the most is who the main character gets with in the ending. There's a homosexual alien prince abduction as an option, and it's funny as shit

Just a few.

Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain DS

You couldnt pay me to play that pile of dogshit.

Do you like RTS games?

This is a now obscure RTS games where you get to slap body parts of two animals into your own customized units. It's called Impossible Creatures.

I'll give you a bitcoin to put 50 hours in.

My man. Sad no one really puts that much thought into tech in modern games when its much easier to do.

Are there hippos to play around with?

I got it for 4.99 on a steam sale I believe. The handful of hours I put in it wasn't too bad. I got my 5 bucks worth I think.

yes. Get the insect invasion mod as well for more body parts to play around with.

Puzzle Quest

Shadow Tactics.
It's a polished and insanely well-made game and I haven't heard anyone mention it here.

Anachronox is a western made jrpg... highly memorable and fun but ends on a cliffhanger.

And most normies don't know about Deadly Premonition, but most of us here do.

is this a historical Japan version of Commandos?

>tfw Lavitz

It had a constant thread on Sup Forums for roughly a week.

>>Sorcerland for PC
N-Never e-ever...

It gets mentioned in "Name a game that has your fetish in it"

some vorefag always posts it.

>Lavitz
leader of the First Knighthood of Basil

He was my favorite

Truly, he was the hero all along.
At least the 3-4 hours of gameplay that you can play are fun. For one dollar, it really was a good game.

I have NEVER seen anyone post this and it's one of my favorite games of all time. The best way to describe it is 2D cheesy medieval Ace of Spades.

It's a work of art i tell yah

My favorite

That's cool. I liked Dart the most.
But then again it was at 'that age'.

This was on SNES.
There was a similar one on N64 called Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon that was fun also.

I liked Dart a lot too. His armor looked really good especially as a Dragoon

>"it's just another mario sports party game" -everyone

>it's actually one of the most fast-paced and competitive Nintendo multiplayer games on a home console with a genuinely balanced meta game and enough abuseable gameplay tricks to rival Melee

It's really just a shame it indeed did go under everyone's radar. At least summer 2007 was a fun summer.

yep
surprised me because i really din't expect much, but i'd risk saying it's better than the originals

well fuck i don't know how i missed them then

Enclave was good fun.

I remember getting this and Brute Force for the OG Xbox and having a fucking blast with them.

This. It's my favorite game of all time, does everything right and most people never even heard about it.

Not enough blood and guts, IMHO. It's a good slasher, but Rune got me way more hard.

Streets of Rogue and Brigador are muh retro 8-bit and 16-bit that are actually good indie games (Sega MechWarror v.2!), Red Faction: Guerrilla got a lot less credit than it deserved, Everspace, Renegade X (C&C: Renegade remake), Reflex and TOXIKK are modern games that are really good, but are overwhelmed by CoDshit.

I really like the first one.
Is the second a lot better?

Nox

>Always wanted to give KaG a try
>BSOD's my computer no matter what.

Gotcha Force every time man.

Transcendence. If you played EV games, especially Nova, you'll love this.

Also, Children of a Dead Earth is a realistic space combat RTS with orbital mechanics, engineering and so on.

The first one is absolutely amazing, but i can't deny that Dark Cloud 2 is far ahead of it.

It has better lore, better graphics, a fantastic OST that i hear to this day and pretty much one of the most fun gameplays i've ever played.

...Plus Monica.

I always recommend this one. One of the best games on the console, I wish I had played it as a kid.

I of the Dragon. It's like... 3d Diablo? I really have no idea what to compare it to.

Also Gun Metal and Battle Engine Aquila are transformer mech games, Gun Metal has better graphics, and BEA has more RTS feel to it, like you are just one unit. It has MP.

Dang, well i recommend it if you even get a chance

WAR Inc. (Project AIROS)

A good chunk of the Vita library is pretty fantastic.
I'm looking forward to A Rose in the Castle coming out right now too.

Fair enough. I'll give it a shot. Thanks, user.

This right here, OP. I'd say this game was way ahead of its time.

Dark Cloud 2 is one of the only games, ONLY, that feels just as fresh replaying it as the first day you played it. It is just pure fun. That's it. I can imagine people complaining about the dungeons in it though. But it was a JRPG that took the repeat floors formula and did it right.

hey mineralfag, bismuth a shit

Play "Mordheim: City of the Damned"

Thank me later.

BOF3?!

Enclave was good fun but Rune is a game I never knew how much I wanted and needed it. Fuck that shit is great

no one knows about this rhythm game and it depresses me

>run to the middle
>POOOOOOWER KICK
>2 score points for 1 goal

Fuck, that game is fun

kero blaster
the bit.trip series outside of RUNNER
enviromental station alpha

looks like a mod for the original C&C or Red Alert 1.

Yeah, good luck finding it for under $150. I guess you could emulate it though

Exanima is fucking amazing but I never see it getting discussed here. Dungeon crawler meets silly yet realistic physics engine

I wish I had some WEBM's to show how satisfying this game is

...

Majesty is a really unique sim/RTS hybrid where you manage your kingdom rather than directly controlling units. You supply your heroes with weapons, armor, inns, as well as quests, letting you direct them to kill the shit you want them to kill in return for bounties. And your royal advisor is knockoff Sean Connery.

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, FAGGOT

Completely overshadows by Colony Wars but it is a fantastic game. The intro is great (and 11 minutes long).

youtube.com/watch?v=ZmSDZgJ5AHg

If you haven't played this, you really should. Plus it's free: sc2.sourceforge.net

This game is more SKEEPAN than AoM
Those voices will stay with me until I die

awesome game, really tough learning curve.

LEAVE MY GOLD... ALONE
I'M MELLLLTINGGGGGG
ENERGIES OF LIGHT
YOUR MAJESTY. THE ROYAL TREASURE IS NEARLY EMPTY

FUN FACT: Dawn of war uses the impossible creatures engine and in layman's terms how the engine works is every game asset is effectively a mod. Its why the community has done staggering things with dawn of war.

The worst recommendation so far.

OP if you like Diablo like rpg I recommend Grim Dawn. It's not really under the radar for ARPG players though.

Awesome hidden gem. Just plat last night.
Free this month on ps+

Cap'n Hector says: "Avast, ye software pirate! Register EV!"
[under attack siren]

Maybe it looks like it, but plays completely different. You research projects, create your own units and undertake missions. There's even a stock market in the game.

jesus fucking christ that box art

It's lit AF pham

Its actually quite a fun crazy golf game.

Speaking of Ambrosia Software, they had a comfy af RPG too

Crazy golf, you say?

Pic related isn't a gem. It's a rather mediocre tablet game

forgot pic

TOME. But I guess roguelike threads in general are almost non-existant here (there's a general on /vg/ that's quite dead tho)

Battle Slots.

It has baller MP. You want to play it?

wolverines revenge

it was an independently developed game which suffered because last minute they decided to make it an X men 2 tie in with marketing, so obviously everyone avoided it. But it had nothing to do at all with the movies

Earth 2150. Maybe not the best balance but GODDAMN they have a lot of options - underground, terraforming, underground terraforming, unit constructor, research, weather, navy, day-night cycle, even headlights that you can turn on and off to make your units faster or stealthier.

Also it has great soundtrack and a really well-done campaign, where you retain units between missions.

Submarine Titans. It's not a Starcraft clone, no, it has much more research options, depth and unit evasion, trading system, repairs and towing. MP is still functional.

Fire Emblem 4, Greatest story of all time in an rpg.

Gameplay's a little clunky
