Blacklist is on sale and I'm wondering if it holds up? I've gotten burnt out on MGS5 and I've been looking for a new stealth game to play. Will it fill the void Sup Forums?

No.
Play the first 3 games, after that the series dropped the ball.

>mgs
>stealth

Well I have Chaos Theory but Blacklist looks like it has some of the same kind of gameplay as mgs5. I guess I'm just desperate for more metal gear.

It's got some nice controls and some decent levels but at the end of the day it wants to be an AAA action experience and constantly forces some dumb action sequences on you. You can go full none lethal but it definitely feels very inconsistent.

It's very fast and arcadey for a stealth game which is sort of enjoyable but it's nowhere close to the originals.

It doesn't.

They're not really the same. Blacklist is a lot more action oriented, which isn't a bad thing at all. Mgs just feels more tactical.
I had fun with blacklist, I think it was worth the money tbqh. If you ignore the cringy "fuck yeah murrica" story and focus on gameplay maybe you'll like it. Single player sidemissions and coop campaign were surprisingly good.

Its barely a stealth game. you're heavily encouraged to go lethal most of the time.
if you want a good modern stealth game play Styx

>Blacklist is a lot more action oriented, which isn't a bad thing at all. Mgs just feels more tactical

When I read this I want to empty an entire bottle of rum at once.
What a sad world we live in where SC has become more casual than fucking MGS.
And utter flaming homosexuals like you say it's not a bad thing.

It's not a bad game, it's especially fun stealth cooping with a friend

It is however very casualized compared to the older games

Blacklist is the third best game in the series after chaos theory and the first game.

Its fucking amazing and genuinely people saying it's "more action oriented" muddy have based their opinion on the trailers.

Ghosting the missions is feasible and challenging, and literally the only thing that keeps it from hitting chaos theory levels of perfection is the lack of a sense of humour.

Easily worth picking up, especially at 10 bucks

>Styx
Got the sequel downloaded but haven't finished the first one yet, is it worth playing the second?

>you're heavily encouraged to go lethal most of the time

That's blatantly wrong

He is 100% right.
The game does nothing to make a stealthy approach enjoyable, it always feels tacked on, a alst minute shoehorn job to damage control the outburst after the e3 gameplay presentation.
There's no interrogation mechanics, guards don't have anything funny or useful to say, they are never crucial to beat a level. You can just stomp through 360 no scoping evyrthing and you miss literally not a single bit of content, unlike in the previous games were you'd be missing about half the game.

I've only played the first but I've heard the sequel is pretty good

How did you make the leap from
>The game is the same whether you go full ghost or lethal
To
>The game encourages you to go lethal

I ask because that second statement is blatantly wrong.

At no point does stealth feel tacked on, it is literally what every single level is balanced around, from enemy placement and pathing to lighting and accessible architecture. The fact that interrogation is missing is the only criticism shared so far that is founded in our objective reality

Play The Dark Mod if you want a game with methodical and unforgiving stealth gameplay

It's okay. I played with a friend who's videogame retarded and basically struggles to comprehend the systems in the game and we had fun in the co-op levels

>At no point does stealth feel tacked on
It does in every single level.
Enemy placement relys oheavily on quantity instead of quality.
Dumb as bread AI, but dozens of them in places where it doesn't even make sense.
Waist high walls everywhere instead of vertical level design with tons of alternative routes.

Lighing?
There aren't even states inbetween "seen" and "not seen", also not even a single instance where you need the iconic nigh vision goggles.
No mirrors where enemies can see you, no giving away you position through your shadow (CT did this in 2005 !)
The game doesn't even make a difference between grass, woord or a metal flooring. AI is deaf all the same, you can literally sprint up to them.

The entire detection system also relys on sticky cover.
Your visibility is not calculated by AI seeing parts of your body in conjunction of lighting but by a check if you use sticky cover button or not.

I'm replaying right now, it's a great fucking game, especially if you play it on Perfectionist.

If you're not a SC nostalgiafag you'll like it even better.

I don't know whether I agree with him though. It's pretty easy to go all Jack Bauer and breeze through the guards in MGSV with all the resources you're given. In Blacklist, going loud is pretty hard, you die very quickly.

Finished all SC games except Conviction on Hardest mode because fuck Conviction. It is a great game. It's multiplayer mode was pretty good too before cheaters filled the servers. Can't say anything about co-op.

Honestly, if anything feels tacked on, it's the assault approach. The gunplay clearly isn't meant for all out assault and neither is Sam. I think they added assault not as a playstyle on its own, but just a way out if you don't want to restart at the previous checkpoint if you fuck up.

>also not even a single instance where you need the iconic nigh vision goggles.
Not true. You need them any time in the game they decide to cut power somewhere.

>The game doesn't even make a difference between grass, woord or a metal flooring. AI is deaf all the same, you can literally sprint up to them
Again wrong. Enemies will hear you when you're near them unless you're walking slowly. Stepping on shit like broken glass wil alert them.

You do get a ridiculously OP suit when you finish Grim's side missions which makes your movement really silent even when running, but you can just deem it a game breaker and not use it.

good post

>doesn't notice the gun poking out
>uses two of the most overpowered items in the game and complains that it's casual

Online community is deader than a Jew at Auschwitz, but it's a decent enough game.

Styx is shit.

Anyone else think nu-Sam wasn't that bad?

They made Sam younger and changed his voice. It devastated me. Before I bought the game I had no idea they changed him. When the first mission started I was like Who the fuck is this guy? When I realized it was Sam i wanted to cry.

Not only that but they changed his entire character.
From sacastic old man who has seen it all to a young hothead who throws around generic military terms every sentence.
Why even call him Sam a that point?
Pissies off old fans, doesn't do anything for new fans.

Hold on, Sam in Blacklist isn't a young hothead by any means, he's still a veteran.

Pretty much this.

You can ghost every missions and its actually pretty fun once you get the perfect run.

this game is fucking garbage. even splinter cell 1 is better. sc1 is actually one of the best ones but is like 15 years old and the fact it holds up so well and manages to be 100000000x better than blacklist says something. there isn't even any stealth requirements in this game and you can run around guns blazing and kill people easily with that tagging mechanic.

an absolute turd of a game

I only need to take one look at the HUD to see how shitty this game is.

He's definitely a hothead and super edgy and trying to sound tough and smart whereas old Sam was sarcastic and humble and didn't want to sound like some super cool /k/ommando. Why didn't they just say Sam retired after a distinguished and heroic career serving his country and just introduce the hothead as a new guy?

I liked him. Yeah, he's super intense, but it kinda comes with the situation. And he did have quite a few good lines which hinted at a strong presence of dark humor in his personality - I just wish they took it all the way. His voice was cool too, not trying to mimic Ironside.

Then again, I played the original SC games when I was a little kid and I have barely any attachment to Ironside's Sam, so perhaps I just don't get it.

Splinter cell 1 is the second best SC game why are you talking about it like it sucks?

I don't understand the timelines of these games

This is the latest one in the series right? Wasn't Sam in his 50s?

Blacklist is excellent user. Anyone who tells you otherwise just has shit taste.
youtube.com/watch?v=7M8bg_uobnM

Literally the only thing bad about it was the story and changing Sam's VO. Gameplay wise it still hasn't been surpassed by any new stealth game.

>I don't understand the timelines of these games

Nobody does. Blacklist is pretty much a soft reboot.

Not to take anything away from the guy playing, but he is using the really overpowered stealth suit.

>working together on a mission to save millions of lives
>can't stop arguing about ANYTHING

Pretty unprofessional desu.

This. It's the only suit that allows you to run behind enemies without alerting them. It makes the game a lot easier, especially when those big Darth Vader motherfuckers roam around, who can only be killed from the back.

It's sexual tension.

It's a fun game but should've just introduced the game as a new IP. Call it Tom Clancy's Sneak n Stab. Calling it Splinter Cell just invites unfavorably comparisons to Chaos Theory which is still the gold standard of stealth games.

a new voice actor should have meant a new character

sam should have retired after chaos theory

the idea of seeing people struggle to fill his shoes is more interesting than seeing him actually do stuff now

>new shitty voice actor
>from the actually nice revenge plot of conviction with nice locations to a millitary cod tier shit dialog
>it want's to continue from convition but sam is now 20 years younger while still having an around 25 years old daughter

Jesus I actually starting to get mad just typing it out.

Brand recognition. The same reason why they kept the same character. The majority still wants to sneak around as Sam Fisher, despite the change in voice actors. It's kinda like the Bond franchise.

something i really liked about blacklist is how they had multiple scoring systems to go along with multiple playstyles

like how if you go loud or lethal instead of just giving you a shitty stealth score it judges you by how good you were at that style

they didn't go far enough with the idea though. implementation was too basic

Hopefully Ubi shows something in E3. Splinter Cell is their only single player title that's not open world trash.

>those Grim missions

Sweaty palms.

Just pretend Sam finally gives it all up after saving the President form 4th Echelon at the end of Conviction. It's kind of a beautiful story. Loyal soldiers and patriot forced to do a mission that would break a weaker man's consciousness and turning him into the bad guy and a target of the country he loved. Then going off on revenge as a man scorned and spit on after all he'd done. Only being redeemed once he'd gone to lengths that should not have been expected of him. After that, he retires quietly, knowing its all bullshit in the end. He can finally spend some time with his daughter and become a grandfather. Fuck Nu-Sam. Just pretend he's a different guy working for the corrupt jewish corporate owned surveillance state.

nice trips

I mean you'd hope they didn't turn Splinter Cell open world.

I actually couldn't look at the character as sam. I skipped every cutscene because it was cringeworthy.

>jew IT gadget guy
>Cobin is now a 100% clown and quips

I played it as a casual action stealth game without a story.

i actually watched the cutscenes and felt ill for doing so. the nu-male jew hipster with his little jokes gave me cancer. i only played the game because i thought trying to ghost each mission was fun but then realized it was too hard because the game was meant to play panther style and i dont think they seriously though anyone would try ghosting

Actually I thought Panthering your way through becomes harder than ghosting because a few missions into the game the enemies start wearing armor and you can't meme your way out with mark and execute anymore.

Jesus the fucking story and dialogues (the small amount that I endured) were like if you put 5 15 year old kid in a room and told them to "write something millitary and cool".
Characters were the lowest of trash as well. As I said I loved (still do) conviction for the style and revenge plot. It felt a bit like Taken.
The levels were fun as well and stylish.

>dat Iraq mission where I was thinking I play as Sam

Charlie was intentionally annoying. I know it doesn't really make it better, but at least you were supposed to dislike him.

That mission and the soundtrack was great. I believe it was also one of the very few pieces Amon Tobin did for Conviction.

youtube.com/watch?v=QrpzKPoGHdI

A few things gave it away that you weren't playing as Sam, but rather Rambo.

Even newer Splinter Cells are better than MGS ever will be if you want stealth.

In MGSV you can still go in rambo, meanwhile in SC you will get shot to death regardless, unless you play on easy.

If someone talks shit about newer SC, its just regular ubisoft hate meme.

but its not even nostalgia, chaos theory is just better than this garbage

This still gives me goosebumps. I forgot how great the music were till you mentioned it.
Also this is the first normal conversation I could have on this piece of shit board in something like 3 months so thank you.

youtube.com/watch?v=4gXTc6RMnr8

Chaos Theory is possibly the best stealth game ever made. I like all the old SC games.

It's just that the nostalgia glasses make some people blindly hate Blacklist and say things like "different surfaces sound the same to enemies" while it's clearly bullshit.

That Iran mission was the shit.

Your autism is showing.

Why was she so bitchy?

It was actually pretty good on the hardest difficulty

this, unless we are counting the rehash missions, those were reasonably difficult.

Cuz she was hot and wanted some fuck thats why

She wanted to think she was in charge, but Charlie was the only one who listened to her.

Why is there no porn of her, that's what I want to know.

She did nothing wrong, Sam is a dick for no reason.

Yeah, buy it.

Pros: It's fun if you play it knowing it's retarded. It's a very fast-paced, linear stealth game with sprint kills/executions akin to Ass Creed. It's essentially an improvement on Blacklist.

Cons: Terrible plot, abysmal AI, quite buggy, inconsistently bad graphics, it's in 2 discs on 360. Co-op campaign isn't nearly as good as Conviction's, and they removed versus modes.

If you played and liked Conviction, I'd recommend trying it.

As flawed as MGSV is, it's a better game tho

improvement on Conviction* fuck

There's no way Sam didn't fuck her on that SMI table post credits.

I actually bought this game on PC to play spies vs mercs with my buds. It's pretty good

Menopause

Power play with Sam based on bad history and wanting the dick.

>tfw unironically like nu-Sam

Conviction Sam was fine. Blacklist Sam was generic America hooah hero. Too boring.

Yeah the game it's very nice, the game focuses on stealth and actually reward stealthy play but there is also the option of go guns blazing.

There are side missions that are pure stealth (get detected once and it's game over) and missions where you fend off hordes of enemies.

Game is awesome also the best version is the Wii U one

I feel like Blacklist Sam had moments where we could see a bit of his personality (like when Grim warned him that getting spotted will ruin the mission and he was all "uhhh, you know who I am, right?" but was lost in the rest of Clancy-speak.

I like Johnson's voice though. Threatening but understated.

The levels are very open and replayable.

>he complains about the game being casual
>while using the... *snickers* radar

i enjoyed blacklist the most of all the splinter cell games, and this is despite playing the first game when i was an impressionable teen and blacklist when i was a jaded, vidya-tired 20-something year old

>Bad history
That fucking retcon in Conviction was a god damn travesty.

Also: PS2/Xbox Double Agent + alpha version of Conviction is the canon story for me.
I actually liked Blacklist if I just pretended it wasn't Sam, but if they'd actually had him take Lamberts spot, and have the MC being some new guy to take Sams spot, I would have been in heaven.

I'll always have a soft spot for Blacklist because it came out when I was burned out on gaming and it reminded me games can be fun.

Next-gen Double Agent was the best Splinter Cell game, I don't care what anyone says. The ONLY people who didn't like it were fucking casuals who got hit with the cold, hard realization that they were only good at stealth when it consisted of remaining invisible in convenient shadows on exclusively nighttime maps with the option to simply kill or knock out enemies if they spot you.
>best story
>best soundtrack
>best emails
>best level in the entire series--Shanghai
>best and purest form of stealth in the entire series (many missions where you can't kill, knock out, or touch ANYONE; often have no sticky cams or other crutch gadgets to rely on, as well as no thermal, EEV, Wave, or night vision--you have to use your eyes; daytime levels where you actually have to use your brain, etc.)
>best casual filter in timed missions that force you to think on your feet, adapt to changing situations, and sometimes forgoe objectives altogether
>many levels are nonlinear and open and allow you to tackle objectives in any order, not just one like in Chaos Theory
Absolutely God-tier and there will never be another video game like it ever again because you retards complained about how shit you are.
