There are fan made fixes, some restoration mods for stuff like Morrigan's romance, minor visual changes like invisible helmets, and all the DLC and pre-order content that you are supposed to get from EA's broken store but you can just download every file on the game's wiki.
The game works just fine without them, though.

Human noble is good later on in the game.

That's not really relevant when you can completely break the game on any difficulty without having a single mage in your party. Mages just make everything go smoother.
