Crowdfunding.
People are retarded and keep giving money to a guy who never has completed a game on his own. They forget that the only reason why Freelancer exists is because Microsoft kicked Chris Roberts and completed the game without his big wasteful ass
Chris Roberts is like Molyneux turned up to 11 while doing a speedball.
Absolutely nothing, the inevitable flop will be the tortanic to end all tortanics.
"Star citizen" will become a pejorative to refer to cultish mongoloids who throw away thousands of of dollars on a hollow promise then lash out at anyone who finds this behaviour questionable.
It's filled with retards who enjoy getting scammed and make excuses for the whole mess. Funnily enough, a lot of them here in Sup Forums, who managed to be worse than fans in the oficial forums
lack of management oversight.
I don't even know what the core game mechanic is supposed to be.
The fucking FPS module looks worse than those indie games made with Unity assets. There's bugs everywhere (including shooting through walls). And backers still say how good it is. I just don't get people sometimes
nothing, since it hasnt been released yet :^)
nothing went wrong and they are still working
youtube.com
you do realize that they are one of the most open companies about their game, right?
Literally nothing? What went wrong?
but they are going to patch it
Game looks like shit, has no content, won't work as promised, joining all the shitty modules and allowing thousands of people to play in the same world is decades away. But at least they are open about it.
Outer space. Because it's fake.
>I don't even know what the core game mechanic is supposed to be.
buying ships on the official website
Like pottery
>nothing went wrong
is inexact, and that is because
>they are still working
Litterally the next interesting thing to happen to this project is to watch them miss their E3 appointment again this year
Star Citizen is the perfect example of why pure money doesn't just make all your game development problems go away.
Who here looking forward to the fallout?
>play the tutorial to learn how to play
>have fun
>let friend download game to try it
>point him towards to tutorial to learn how to play
>tutorial removed
>look into why
>"The Drill Sergeant flight instructor was deemed too mean"
For fucks sake.
They picked their team.
That's how EVERYTHING works these days.
>CitizenCon2017
Dude, no. There's at least another 2-3 years worth of backer dosh to be milked out there.
It was removed because it was broken and they had better things to do than to fix it. Not sure why 99% of what people say about this game is made up.
It's made harder by Chris Roberts wasting money by trying to make his dream of being a huge Hollywood director come true. A normal person would be self aware about how much Wing Commander sucked.
can't believe people are taking out fucking loans to donate to this shit
Nothing yet.
The potential "wrong" is going to be either when funding noticeably slows down or when it actually releases.
For context, it's had 35mil yearly for the last four years. I'm not estimating, it's literally had 35.x million funding each year. Incredibly consistent.
Nah, it got removed because it was a couple of years old and bugged to shit.
>tutorial removed
>look into why
>"The Drill Sergeant flight instructor was deemed too mean"
It was removed, because over the course of 3 years their codebase degenerated so much, that the tutorial mission broke and nobody could fix it.
And now they start over with switching everything to Lumberyard (which didn't happen yet).
At least a bunch of whales have realized that spending $3000 for a dream isn't healthy. But damn if CRI has made the refund process hard as balls. Last thing I knew was that they were asking people to mail them a picture of their IDs (not legal) and publicly shaming people who refunded for not being Star Citizens. They act like cult heads at this point
>nothing, since it hasnt been released yet :^)
It's already two and half years past the announced release date.
Heck, my refund was already 18 months ago and they told me, it's going to come out in late 2016, so I refrain from my refund, but it was just another blatant lie.
>At least a bunch of whales have realized that spending $3000 for a dream isn't healthy. But damn if CRI has made the refund process hard as balls. That's why I got out ASAP after watching their 2015 cult meeting with tickle-pornstar Mae Demming crying in front of the "audience".
It felt like I quit Scientology.
>refunding
NOOO!
YOU'RE ONLY HURTING THE DEVELOPMENT!
Doeant ot charge like 100usd real monies for a ship on game?
My friend at work talks about it and I just think how sad his life is that he buys vehicles on a game for so much money.
>It's already two and half years past the announced release date.
Wasn't that the release date for the original Kickstarter pitch, though? I thought that was just a small singleplayer Wing Commander clone, then when people threw millions of dollars at Roberts they decided to make a MMO.
>100usd
>new ship
Yeah, maybe for a new haircut on your character model.
New ships run 10k.
The "original Kickstarter" pitch is what is still going on.
There was no KS product delivery and no funding campaign for a new product.
Star Citizen ist by all metrics a failed Kickstarter. The developers took the money and ran.
they bit off more than they can chew
I take it back. They guy who made this game.is a fucking genius.
If only you could invest instead of fund I would.
>I just think how sad his life is that he buys vehicles on a non-existing game for so much money.
Think about it again.
It's not Early Access DLC.
It's "micro"-transactions (times thousand) for literal JPEGs.
>Which didn't happen yet
It happen like over a month ago.
>It happen like over a month ago.
No, it didn't happen. Their current client (2.6) is still running on the old CE 3.7 codebase.
The engine switch will take more than a year.
Lumberyard is running on the CE 3.7 codebase.
The only thing they did was change repository so they can pull network relevant stuff for AWS if they need it, but it's already running its servers on AWS.
I mean, it could be worse. They could be Elite: Dangerous.
Right now Star Citizens faggots at least have their hope, better than the EDFags who should realize they backed a shit game and now run around trying to convince everyone else to throw their bux after it so that maybe it'll be good someday.
>Lumberyard is running on the CE 3.7 codebase.
Lumberyard is based on CE 3.8.
Elite Dangerous might be boring for a lot of people but CRI could learn from it. Release a smaller game, then keep extending and supporting it with the sales money. The worst is that every gameplay system is done better in E:D at this point. But hey, SC has a crappy FPS mechanic that Elite doesn't so it must be better.
All 2010s space games are scams.
And by definition 3.7.
Actual illustration by a CIG programmer.
they tried to appeal to PC musard ricers and now they're bleeding millions just so you can see the tiny scratches on every bumhole
based retard
There was an actual investor guy who bailed out in public. Problem is that even with all the money getting in, there's probably little return for the investors (since the whole company is incredibly wasteful). And when this crashes, it's going to crash hard.
I spent 45 bucks. I like keeping up on development. I got my monies worth. Can't speak for the people spending 1000+
I'd say getting a shit game is still better than no game at all. Besides, E:D problem is really lack of content. It's a decent engine that would make for a good game with constant content updates.
SC literally can't finish the base game. I can't see how long they will take to actually begin the development for the game's content
>And when this crashes, it's going to crash hard.
It's going to silently glimmer away like many abandoned Kickstarters.
It would still be a waste of time/money for actual investors
The "actual investors" already got their money + interest out.
It's just autistic spergs now, which will still be in denial, when the operation is officially closed and the money declared lost.
I spent 60 a while back on a few things and I'm just waiting for 3.0 to re-download it. They've been making decent progress with the patches recently and have been showing some pretty cool stuff in their around the verse videos and question videos and the like.
I'm not too worried just yet- but if 3.0 doesn't release by the end of this year I'm gonna give up on the game.
Nothing, at least not yet.
Games take time, especially ones that promise to break new ground.
>I'm not too worried just yet- but if 3.0 doesn't release by the end of this year I'm gonna give up on the game.
3.0 was due to release in 2016, retard.
>Games take time,
No.
Yes it was, and the biggest issue CIG have is that they keep fucking promising to release stuff on x date but always end up delaying it. This has been the standard from day 1 of their development. When they said "2016!" I knew that meant it was gonna be mid 2017 at the earliest. If you haven't figured that out since the Star Marine debacle, you're braindead.
If they can't pull it off by the end of the year I'm giving up and 60 bucks lost isn't a huge deal to me in the end because I have a big boy job. But at the same time, I don't want this game to fail because it holds a lot of potential. Why Sup Forums is so horny for it to go down in flames like TORtanic 2.0 is beyond me, and pretty disappointing
Same here, might even sell my acc, golden ticket + very low id(like top 300 or so, cant remember).
Bet some crazy spacesim autist would drop atleast double for that.
Doesn't SC have the record for most crowdfunded money for a video game development? If so, that's gotta count for something, it would be seen as the gibbeted corpse put on display to forever stain the concept of kickstarting massive, ambitious game projects.
I won't sell my 60 dollars worth of stuff (a game package and that spess motorcycle thing) but I'll just stop following the development entirely and ignore it. If it manages to release in the far flung future, at least I'll have an in to check it out.
This game could be either one of the best to come out in a long time or it's gonna be complete anus/never get released- there's no real middle ground
Ben Lesnick is the only thing breaking ground in this project
He is also one of the worst offenders when it comes to false promises and is a big reason why CIG has it's reputation on forums for missing deadlines. Motherfucker promises the world whether it's true or not
It's like Daikatana, except with crowdfunding.
>When they said "2016!" I knew that meant it was gonna be mid 2017 at the earliest.
They where deliberately lying to me about that to persuade me to withdraw my refund request.
Of course I've gone through with it and I'm now enjoying the shitshow without any money at stake.
>Doesn't SC have the record for most crowdfunded money for a video game development?
Yeah, but this is a lie, too.
They made (and spent) millions, but they didn't made 100+ millions, that's just another layer of con artistry.
The only real shitshow is whenever someone tries to make bait threads about it on Sup Forums. Everywhere else people just either quietly refund it if they don't have any faith in the project anymore or they jerk off about how great it's gonna be
At least it's not Anthony Bur-...I mean Mass Effect Andromeda
Star Citizen will be the greatest game ever made, just wait and see
Why is he so fat?
Meanwhile Scalebound exists, oh wait
really joggin the noggin
he grows every time he makes a lie or exaggeration.
also
>has a mjolnir necklace
Actually a Pilgrim Cross necklace from Wing Commander.
>Yeah, but this is a lie, too.
I don't doubt you, but what's received more crowdfunding money? I have a burning curiosity.
"Receiving crowdfunding money" is a deception on it's own already.
Crowdfunding is a campaign to raise money towards a specific goal within a specific time.
By Star Citizen metrics Blizzard received billions of "crowdfunding" over the course of decades, yet they don't add up all their earnings to a total sum, because it's a real business and that doesn't make any sense.
"Crowdfunding" is just another layer of the scam.
so what you're basically saying is that SC does in fact hold the highest amount of crowdfunding for a kickstarter project and you're either just trying to troll or you're being a massive retard
Is this game even out ?
>perpetual self sufficient hype machine
>wrong
best scam in history
...
...
I still think the retarded automatic space doors for his studio were more outrageous.
That said, I'm not against coffee machines as an office expense but that one is retardedly expensive
lol
Dam, how people feel who backed money to this guy?
The only thing that kickstarter showed is how hard it is for publishers to work with developers like this.
This was a bait thread? I thought this was a "point and laugh at the retards" thread.
I almost forgot
>making a mmo style game
>pick an engine that can't handle it at all
No seriously how the fuck do people feel who donated money to him?
Will this game even come out?
No engine can actually handle an MMO tho
Except Cryengine I guess if you count all the MMOs that already exist for it.
I guess it depends how much you actually know about game engines.
Typically they go hand in hand
There could be a lot to discuss about this project- it's faults, it's strengths, what they're doing right, how they're fucking up, lessons to be learned from other devs or CIG themselves, etc etc
but Sup Forums just wants to go right to the "LOL SCAM CITIZEN" bullshit
>Tfw escapist just lost the court case and Escapist deleted the articles and fired the writer behind the ghost writer.
The closest to an mmo is archage, and it can't support anywhere near the assets, let alone players that star Shitizen says they will have. Or are you one of those retarded niggers that thinks mwo is an mmo and not arena shooter?
There's really not much to discuss, though.
I mean, you call it LOL SCAM CITIZEN "bullshit", but the simple facts are it really was a scam, retards fell for it, and it's funny as shit.
>you will never be so as lasted that you'll take a whole day off work to complain online and go through the entirety of someone's Twitter account because they said something mean about your scam.
Thank god I'm not Chris Roberts.
You guys realize that the development cycle for most AAA games is around 8 years?
???
Do you have eyes nigga? What is an MMO by your definition then?
Planetside 1 managed with a lot less technical requirements on a custom engine.
...
People don't seem to know what happens when chris roberts is in total control of a project. See pic related. At least MS, of all people, salvaged MS and that was saved by the modding community.
