But those who chill enough to accept the flaws of their "idol"/game - whatever the fuck they are fan of - aren't really fans, because that type of a person wouldn't even consider calling himself a fan, without cringingly picturing an image of a dweeb / fat neckbeard who has bought all related merchandise and rabidly tell everyone to shut the fuck up about the stuff they love so much.

I mean, I love the shit out of, um... Pathologic - ever since I bought every single title Ice-Pick Lodge has released on physical media (even the Turgor Special Edition with the buckets of gouashe paint) and really not beating any of those games, besides maybe Knock-Knock. I still admit, that the Pathologic's gameplay is floaty as fuck and the graphics were dated even at the day of release.

Should I consider myself a fan of Pathologic/Ice-Pick Lodge? I'd rather not.

The Metroid fanbase pre-Other M used to be pretty cool. They used to produce some of the best fanart of any vidya series. Now it's been reduced to nothing but shit-flinging and low quality Zero Suit Samus porn.

Smaller fanbases are usually very friendly and helpful because they want you to play the game they love. Example: Guilty Gear fanbase.

Also, no matter the size, most fanbases are probably decent internally, especially outside of Sup Forums. It's only when different fanbases collide and enter each others threads to shitpost and falseflag.
