>*not Japan because they didn't fall for the PC meme
>while it shifted over 200K copies in Japan alone in the first week
>where western sales were far greater than Japanese sales

Now that the dust is settled, can we all agree that PC gaming is a huge mistake and should never be taken seriously?

(You)

I don't even have to look at the image to tell that's Steamspy, which is about as accurate as Vgchartz.

Nier is a literally who franchise, you dumb nigger. Don't be like EA and expect 10M sales on day one for everything

You're right, developers shouldn't export their games to other mediums to make as much money as possible.

Much the same way car companies shouldn't export their cars to other countries.

>literally who
Are you sure, because I been seeing ALOT of normies playing it and spaming memes about it

Consoles are where fresh new titles are made to make as much money as possible.

PC is where those same games go after they're old, broken, and bruised and get whored out to the lowest bidder.

Owners: 172,258
Price $60-$30 depending on region
Even if they sold half of the copies for $30 (which is ridiculous) it's still 45 x 172258 = $7751610
Steam takes 30% so 7751610 - 2325483 = $5426127

5+ million dollar profit only for a obscure title PC port with small budget and zero marketing that was released basically at the same time with horizon, mass effect, zelda and other AAA over-hyped trash.

Really makes you think, OP

It's way more popular than its predecessor was, but still nowhere near well-known status. Most normans have never even heard of Nier until 2-3 months ago

can't be pirated luckily otherwise sales would've been like 80k

But consoles still made a lot more. That's why consoles are always the #1 platform given the most treatment, and why XV isn't on PC.

>while it shifted over 200K copies in Japan alone in the first week
It's worth to mention that Japanese version had English voices and English, German, French, Spanish and Italian subs so the 'in Japan alone' number is inflated with purchases of inpatient Sony bros and Idorts from all over the world.

>no marketing
>denuvo
>60 dollars
>shit port
>still sold 200k copies in a week

That's what you get for trying to sell Denuvo. The PC community is beyond falling for that stuff now.

Japanese sale statistics don't count foreign purchases even if it's from a Japanese store.

Goes for Media Create, Famitsu, Rakuten etc.

>You're right, developers shouldn't export their games to other mediums to make as much money as possible.

no they shouldn't when the other mediums have huge gaping holes.
I mean seriously; I decided to buy horizon even though I fully expect to like Nier 2 more because one costs money and the other is free. I have money but I'm not about to start throwing them away.

And? They spent like $50,000 on porting judging by japan wages plus a denuvo license. That still leave 5 million of clean pure profit.
Even if Sony payed them this sum NOT to release a PC version it would've been worse as they'll 1) never get to PC market 2) lose on free marketing plus more fans so more potential future sales

delet

This game is going to sell boatloads more than the original NieR. But its not going to, and not expected to, move the millions of copies that AAA games aim for. It's likely already made back its meager budget with japan's sales alone, everything else is just profit now.

After the critical acclaim this recieved though, If Square can convince Yoko Taro to make another NieR game, that third one will likely have the impressive launch sales numbers. It would be a far more anticipated affair and get more press coverage.

>Japanese sale statistics don't count foreign purchases
What if I have JP PSN account?

I still would doubt it would reach true AAA sales though. Remember that Bloodborne only sold 2.6m copies. I'm fairly certain even Nu-Males sky outperformed it in terms of sales before the mass refunds happened.

>This game is going to sell boatloads more than the original NieR.

of course it's not. 172k is nothing and it's not on the Xbox.

>Remember that Bloodborne only sold 2.6m copies.

wasn't that years ago ?

a AAA budget would be the death of Yoko Taro's career and Nier as an IP. His game aren't meant for mass appeal, so having an inflated budget like that would only hurt him because they would never sell enough to be a success according to Square Enix.

Nobody buys games on the Xbox senpai unless its FIFA or some shit, because those are the only games Xbox has and the people who want to play FIFA and what have you are the only people dumb enough to buy one.

>only
>ONLY
Are you retarded OP?
This has more sales than some Final Fantasy games on Steam. And those Final Fantasy games have been on Steam for over a year.

This is literally one of Square Enix's most successful Japanese Steam releases ever.

>Yoko Taro game with AAA sales
Please no. Just leave him with Platinum and A game budget at best. AAA budget would get such big corporate overhead it wouldn't be Taro game anymore.

>This has more sales than some Final Fantasy games on Steam
>on Steam

There's your problem. PC games vastly undersell their console counterparts. What would be successful on PC is seen as a dismal failure on consoles.

>What would be successful on PC is seen as a dismal failure on consoles.
wow, guess why the PC port got zero marketing

PC gets games thanks to consoles. Consoles don't need PCs, but PC needs consoles. PC people only know about it simply because it's another prestigious console game that decided to grace their platform.

I'm not so sure; these games are aimed at a Japanese audience first, and this game sold pretty close to the same as the Japanese audience sales on PC. While its true that the West should be selling a good bit more, perhaps on consoles, these are not even close to poor sales. In order to be poor sales, it would have to not be making a profit, and these games wouldn't keep being put on PC if they weren't profitable. No company does things knowing they'll be losing money in the process, and if this is doing better than a significant portion of Square's other PC releases, then that mean its not only profitable, but its a significant success. And its doing so without having ever gone on sale, while their other titles already have. To put things simply, its important to have perspective when looking at game sales. You should compare sales to other equivalent titles on the platform with which you are comparing to determine the profitability and success of a game in question.

Also I'd like to point out that this game is not on PC in Asia yet; it comes out in April there. The Japanese, Chinese, and Koreans will be able to purchase this game soon, which should be an added boost. And because of the lack of physical publishing costs, there's more money to be made from purchases.

Finally, if it makes you feel any better, steamspy only accounts for non-hidden profiles. So that means there are at least a few more sales than being let on

>consoles don't need PCs
How do you think games get made? Also its important for these games to be on PC because many many years from now when the PS4 is no longer getting support, its very unlikely whatever replaces it will have backwards compatibility. Its important for these games to be playable on modern platforms well into the future.
>PC people only know about it simply because it's another prestigious console game that decided to grace their platform.
I know about it because I played Drakengard 3 and Nier 2 years ago

Except that we asians are boycotting this shitty game. Oh what's that square? Worldwide release doesnt include Asia, the biggest continent in the world? Well fuck you too. I hope China annexes your fucking country while Trump turns a blind eye.

Asians are boycotting it because the game wasn't released there, which, without a proxy, they wouldn't have been able to purchase the game in the first place. Not everyone will be boycotting it, and many will be happy that Square listened, commented, and gave them a release date

>its important for these games to be on PC because many many years from now when the PS4 is no longer getting support, its very unlikely whatever replaces it will have backwards compatibility. Its important for these games to be playable on modern platforms well into the future.

Or they could pull a master ruse effort and reprint the game for the consoles they were made for, bypassing PC entirely. Man, Sega fucking loves trolling you guys.

Is the PS2 a modern platform?

It's still shitty business practice. I'm still mad that Konami to this day regionlocked MGRR.

yeah but you got buy the license to release it on Ps4 + the dev kit

those things are REALY expensive

you dont need a license to release on pc and the engine is made on pc.

is literaly free profit, there is no reason NOT to release games on PC

Bullshit, normies are busy playing Katniss Everdeen simulator.

Only reason Automata has gotten more popular now is because it's actually a good game. Normies won't touch it cuz they only play western garbage. Pretty sure ME:A has sold more, even tho its hot fucking trash compared to NieR.

Not an issue for the bigger companies, plus they get special perks for working with Sony. Why else is Sega an unabashed Sony fanboy?

>inb4 their shitty PC only rehashes
>inb4 their shitty sonic games

And some other points to consider being that PC games are slow burners and sell more steadily over time where console games drop off fast within the first two weeks of a game's release.

All this considered, it's also a wise business move to strengthen your IP and grow its audience by releasing it on the platform that is growing at a faster ratio than console gaming.

Also Steamspy is pretty shit

>Why else is Sega an unabashed Sony fanboy?
well sony almost killed the yakuza game before launch because they did not wanted to launch such a violent game on their consoles

i seriously dont know why other than being japanese

>i seriously dont know why other than being japanese

Maybe it's because Sony is the biggest player, they have all the bargaining chips, and they call ALL the shots in the industry?

Of course. No sane developer will ever prioritize PC when making anything but a casual MMO or MOBA.

Console sales make their money upfront where PC make money through sales.

Yes, for AAA titles that every jackoff plays that can afford printed discs console games make way more, but for everyone else PC is far, far more profitable.

>make PC port
>more or less get a second Japan's-worth of sales

the only "more profitable" PC games are mobas for 3rd world children

pc gaming is garbage

awesome, I cant wait to pop a PS2 game into my PS4 and play!

>and they call ALL the shots in the industry?
and thats the problem

if they want to make their license and dev kit expensive as fuck they can, because they call all the shots

you need a rival to make both companies work for better products

if there is monopoly, the company gets lazy

just compare NES games when nintendo had the industry by the balls

and Snes games when the genesis was there

The game topped the charts in Japan and vastly outperformed the Original game, and Steam Sales have almost equalled that already.

Why are you trying to spin this as a bad thing?

thats pretty good for unknown jap shit (in the minds of normies).

I got a better stat

there are 0 (ZERO) piratecucks playing Nier Automata right now

>put denuvo in your games to prevent loss of sales
>doesn't sell because no one wants that crap on their pc
Now that their piracy stance has no basis, what deflection will they use next time?

Because it's not selling a million units. Everyone knows that Japan's sales a pretty much irrelevant when you can make 5x the money in the US alone.

days since launch
>>only shifted 172K copies on Steam WORLDWIDE*
>>while it shifted over 200K copies in Japan alone in the first week

Are you stupid, don't you realize how close those numbers are?

>170k for a niche jap AA game on PC.

Those seems like decent numbers if you ask me.

Making the game on ps4 and then porting it to PC is literally a technical or 2 person job. The time it takes them to do it and the pay they get for it they make it back easily in a thousand sales. Everything else is pure profit.

Yeah, PC is so profitable, that they just dump an old game on Steam in a terrible state, while they keep parading new games for consoles. That explains why XV isn't on PC, right? That explains why Sega, as previously mentioned, doesn't give a shit about PC, right? That explains why Square's other games, like WoFF or DQ Minecraft, aren't on PC, right?

Money talks. PC isn't where the money is.

>>*not Japan because they didn't fall for the PC
are you just spewing the same rhetoric or do you actually read foreign imageboards?

PC market is saturated with choices, where as console gamers get about 1 good game a month, if even that.

If you care about platform profits and sales so much, then go play mobile in Chinese because everything is garbage compared to that.

And the only "more profitable" console games are AAA trash for dudebro normies.

Console gaming is garbage.

>Japan
>PC gaming

Are there black people in the KKK?

>and why XV isn't on PC.
After the director said "yes I would love to release on PC however I had to slice the game to pieces so hard to fit it on sony's shitbox that we'd have to start development from the ground up."

wtf i hate pc now!!

What he meant was "Consoles generate much more money, so we seek to capitalize on this by chopping it up in as many pieces as possible. PC gamers don't pay nearly as handsomely as console players, so they'll wait until we're ready."

>Lightning Returns
>X/X-2 HD
>IX
>Type-0 HD
>terrible state
And Nier Automata isn't a bad port contrary to popular belief, and they've already stated they're working on a patch to fix its problems.
It literally only takes up so many resources on PC because the lightning quality is set so high. (much higher than the PS4 version's).

Also interesting how more and more of Square's releases are getting day one or near day one releases. I Am Setsuna, Nier Automata, and the upcoming Dragon Quest Heroes II.

We've also seen XV being shown off on a 1080 TI and it has significant graphical upgrades not present on the PS4 version

XV isn't on PC because they saw how many people double-dipped for GTAV.

Have you not read all of S-E's comments about how they're making a vastly improved port of XV for PC? It's being used as a benchmark for Nvidia graphics cards and they've said that the PC version will have more content.

Resident Evil 7 hasn't even broke 400k on Steam.

200k for Nier is great.

>Money talks. PC isn't where the money is.

your the dumbest person on the planet, a PC port always means free money for the developers. now, go back to your outdated plastic toy box

There's alot of PC gamers in Japan now. The whole Japan doesn't game on PCs meme is just from children who are still living in 2010. If you follow JP gaming sites, twitter or imageboards, they're talking almost exclusively about PC games and streaming PC games. The hardcore gamer demographic in Japan has switched back to PC in addition to consoles while the normal/casual market has went to mobile. Consoles are suffering in Japan.

In Japan I was seeing Steam giftcards in some convenience stores when I was there a year ago and all the Japanese friends I had were pretty into PC games and FPS.

Uh, yeah. Yes there are. Have been for literally decades.

>they saw how many people double-dipped for GTAV.

Which is fucking no one. At best, XV will sell 1 million lifetime copies compared to PS4's 5.

Yeah OK. All the Major Japanese games still aren't going on PC because PC will threaten the console monopoly which encourages price gouging. No way in HELL will publishers put their games on another platform if it threatens their 80K Yen MSRP for years.

>price a game at €60
>of course no one buys it
>price game at €20
>everyone and their mum buys it
Is it that difficult?

You have absolutely no fucking idea how the economics of Steam and other digital market places work. Nier has been a big success on Steam.

how bad is the anime in this game?

if i hate anime will i hate this game because of anime?

>Which is fucking no one.
>owners: SEVEN FUCKING MILLION

PC peasants will never buy a game for full price

They wait 5 years until its $5 on Steam or just pirate it and wonder why nobody wants to make games for whiny PC virgins

>There's alot of PC gamers in Japan now
There really isn't. PC gaming is still a niche within an already niche hobby. The most popular western PC game in Japan is Battlefield and it's only alive because of gun-crazy otakus. And even then the JP population isnt high at all. I say this as someone from Australia that regularly play with a couple of people from Japan.

7 vs 21 million on PS3 16 million on 360, 15 on PS4, and 6 on Juan.

VGChartz really is completely shit with sales data, isn't it?

why would i care about weeb trash? let alone buying short sp game with no mp? there are literally zero difference from pirated/cheap ssa.

Japanese players will never buy a game full price
They wait 5 years until its cheap on PSN and wonder why nobody wants to make games for them
These sales are almost the exact same as the original release in Japan. This is one of Square Enix's highest selling PC releases ever,
and its being sold full price

Single player games are always better than multiplayer ones

that's wrong kiddo

I wonder how much it sold on PS4 in the west.

This one has no replayability whatsoever though. No fucking builds and even skill trees for an RPG. I'm sorry but FFXIV has got me covered man.

you sound like you dont know shit about what you're talking about

Curious though. It's been 2 weeks and normally initial sales should be up for the UK, but nothing.

>literally 26 endings
>higher difficulties that affect the way AI act (Hard and Very Hard make enemies more aggressive)
>no replayability

>There's alot of PC gamers in Japan now

can conform i have seen alot of chinks in online games latley

no one is delusional enough to think PC will ever be top priority. DLC is too important and an easy extra money grab, and how many PC players actually buy that when you just need to drop some files into a folder for free.

Meanwhile you have people on PSN willing to play .50 - 1.25 just for an avatar

About 300k is my guess

And those endings sans 4 main ones are joke endings. Skyrim was way more replayability than this shit.

Try to refute me then but I doubt you can judging by how mad you got to begin with.

>nudity

I want to find those 160 people and show them what real nudity is.

>expecting most normal people to be drawn to loli fap bait.
I'm sure it's a nicer game than most, but exactly what were you expecting?

Don't bother. Like the rest of Sup Forums, these cucks are way beyond rehab.

The only lolis in the game appear in the ending and are the least sexualized characters in the game.

>show them what real nudity is.

t.sex offender

>implying

Implying what? Lolita fashion =/= loli, all the sexualized characters are adult women with adult bodies.
